I`m wondering if spotpass is region free. I have a Japanese 3DS and, of course, am playing the Japanese version of NL. Anyway, the reason I ask is because I have yet to receive the homes that Nintendo sent to the Happy Home Showcase. My DS is always on and the WiFi is also turned on. I have also heard about spotpass items that I would like (garden gnome etc.). Is there something I`m missing?

as far as I know spotpassing is region specific. a Japanese game won't get the NA spotpasses. I don't think they spotpass houses at all to Japanese region games, but not sure about that.

The Japanese version doesn't even have this option available. The HHA Spotpass feature was added in for NA and EU and it is, possibly, part of the reason it took so long for NA and EU to get NL. I don't think the Korean version has this feature either.

The garden gnome isn't a spotpass or downloadable item, it's a spotlight item. Spotlight items are available in the Nookling's store, but are rare enough that there will be a message on your town message board when one appears in your shop.

Thanks for the information! Now, I also have an NA version of NL that I use for dreamies etc., so if I set that up will I be able to get the houses? ( I haven`t unlocked the HHS in my NA game yet). Are they still going around?

It's not region specific, I had a Japanese House in my HHA showcase. Character's name, town, and their Mii on StreetPass was from Japan/in Hiragana. They've already been replaced by another house in HHA showcase though.

Streetpasses aren't region specific, but the spotpass houses are.

That might have been a streetpass. Streetpass houses look and behave identically to spotpass ones, just the streetpass ones you pass the owner of and the spotpass ones are sent out over Wifi. ^^

Yes, you'll be able to get the houses in your NA copy if you set the HHA up in that town. I have a Japanese and a NA copy and my NA town gets the spotpass houses while the JP one does not.

You'll get all future spotpassed houses, but you won't get the old ones. They seem to be doing them pretty regularly though.

Like Mint said, streetpassing is not region-specific, I have Japanese and Euro houses in my HHA right now. That's a different thing though.
