Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Announced

This is so cute, I love it! I already have a switch but the sword and sheild edition is beautiful, I might buy it just to collect

They could probably sell a dock add-on in the future for this.... probably not tho lol but at $200 this is a price that is going to sell like crazy.

I like it. I don't have a switch yet, so I'll probably be getting one of these instead of a regular one. I don't care about not being able to play on the tv because I don't like doing that anyway (one reason why my consoles collect dust). With the price I can see myself getting one at release and a second if/when the acnh bundle is announced.

I knew it!
I'm going to plan on getting one, but I'll base the finally decision once I see the specs.
this time, I'll wait a few months to make sure that they don't release more colors like they did the 2ds, (rip, I really want the orange and white one!)

Considering there's only one tv in my house, I never played consoles much either.
I do hope they bundle the acnh, I'd get two!

This is perfect for someone who doesn't have a switch already. The teal color is very nice and I think at $200 its a good price.

Now the problem are the controllers. Is this finally going to fix the drifting on the joy cons? The most common problem are the drifting specially on the left joy con which I had to deal twice with already. I know the controllers are attached this time but if people end up experiencing this even when the controllers are attached then yikes....

My joycons kind of feel like they're drifting, too but I assure you - it's all safe. : )

Super Mario Party for example doesn't support handheld mode, same goes for games like Just Dance.
Overall, there are only a handful of games that doesn't support this mode. Also, keep in mind that the
Lite is just a alternative option for those people who doesn't have a Switch yet and can live with the fact
that the Lite missing features the baisc Switch has (and also wants to save some money). They will not
change the availability of handheld mode for the basic Switch at all, it will all remain the same. So don't
worry about it.
Oh, really? : o I thought they all support handheld. It would make sense for Mario Party to support it since it's a party game. Hm... anyways so far all of the games I wanted to play support it, so I'm good! :3

It looks nice, but I think I'll pass on this one for now. I already use my Switch as a handheld. When I'm at home, I'm forced to use a a wired connection, so WiFi on the Switch Lite would be nearly impossible, since it doesn't connect to the dock. As for the battery life, I'm not worried about it either, since I have a Powerbank for whenever I need to charge my Switch on the go.
Yeah, Internet is pretty bad on Switch. As much as I love Switch, Internet connection is just uh... it doesn't connect to the wi-fi that I have in another room, so I have to use tethering on my phone which doesn't allow me to play with other people. =/
It's not a big deal, though. Maybe they'll improve it with Lite.

Okay these are my final thoughts on this reveal, Everything all seems good except the lack of the TV out/dock feature. Something about paying for the online service for a handheld only console rubs me the wrong way lol

I wonder if they'll make some special editions in the future. Like New 2DS XL Pikachu and Pokeball. They are so adorable with Pikachu's nose sticking out :3 And Pokeball looking like a ball with a little bulge, hah.
I wish Switch had more customization to it. Themes, cover plates, etc.

Does anyone know if this fits in the pocket? I ask because Nintendo's website only shows it being placed into a bag. And Nintendo customer support only told me that the system is one inch smaller in diameter. For someone who doesn't own a Switch I can see this being a good sale.

But for someone like me who ONLY plays in handheld mode and would like to upgrade to handheld only model, there's no point in buying a second system if it doesn't fit in my pocket. But Nintendo didn't have the answer. Sooooo, anyone know if a system one inch smaller then the original in diameter means it's pocket sized?

I don't think it'll fit in a pocket. But honestly, it's better to get a little bag. This way you won't scratch it.

When I first saw this, I was excited, but as soon as they said that they disabled output to the TV (which would be my preferred way to play a Switch), I honestly lost interest. :/ I absolutely love the colors (would be interested in the blue one), but it would be nice to have a Switch that can play on the TV that also would be a better handheld whenever I traveled or wanted to switch up where I played in the house. If you are someone who prefers the handheld experience exclusively, this definitely is good news for sure!

Hmmmm. Well I do have a decent carrying case for my current unit. It's one of those pocket book type ones that only fits the system with Joy-Cons attached to it and an inset for up to five cartridges in it. IF I end up getting the Lite, I might see if they release something like that.

We'll see though. I am liking the turquoise scheme. :3

Well!! I am hooked! I don't own a Switch yet and this seems to be the answer for me in my small living space ... I can’t see fighting for the TV to play my game (upset Hubby  lol)
I still play my Nintendo 3DS (Animal Crossing my sole game playing passion) so it sounds like an easy transition for me ❤️

Oh, I'm sure there will be some official carrying cases for Lite! : )

Excellent. I might keep my current model though...even though I mostly keep it around for multiplayer, I DO own Super Mario Party and since the Lite has that "Use OG Joy-Cons for non-handheld compatible games" system in place, it'll be good to keep around.

Then again I am curious as to how to play those games in a handheld only system (like if there's no kickstand). I need to study the information again lol.

no offense but like: what is the point of the switch....without the switch functionality??? That's literally the biggest draw to the console that it's both portable and playable on the tv.

It's cute and everything, and more power to people who want one. But It's not for me.

I see Switch Lite as kind of the follow-up to 3DS. Basic Switch is a follow-up to Wii U. Since they're not making games for 3DS anymore, it makes sense to release Lite which is the same console as Switch but closer to 3DS. : )

I know that tv/console people are disappointed that it's unable to play on a tv, but considering that all the attachments for a 'real' switch are what drives the price up ($20 here, $20 there) even the basic switch bundle is $250*-$300 retail. (sometimes cheaper but highly sought on ebay) extra joy cons or joy con attachments are easily $20 a pop.
Maybe it can beam to tvs or rokus?
(*nintendo sells refurbished ones from the nintendo store/ebay for $260)

Nintendo.... light switch??
switch-on.jpg

I WANT A GLOW IN THE DARK SWITCH.
If you get a custom dc skin, it could be a flash light. lol

I'm considering getting one, but only because its price is significantly lower than the normal Switch.

I have to disagree about Animal Crossing being better on handhelds. The only advantage I've really seen in it is having local multiplayer between consoles-that's it. Of course, New Leaf is the only handheld AC game I've owned (I never owned Wild World), and I'm probably biased considering City Folk was my first game when I got it back in 2009, but there's just something I like about being able to play the game on the TV when I want to. On top of that, New Horizons has the same-console multiplayer, which I seriously wonder if it would become a limited feature by the fact that the joycons on the Switch Lite are not removable.

Edit: I rarely add details without changing what I said, but I just visited Nintendo's website and am now browsing the section about the Switch Lite, and it sounds like the games are limited to being in handheld mode-meaning the same-console multiplayer feature of NH would likely be unable to work with the console at all.
