I can't see any other reason to include a gyroid design on EVERYONE in the pic. If it were just a little shout out to old AC things, then perhaps one of them would be wearing it in a random shot, but it seems too specific to choose for something like this!
Personally if I were the intern in charge of picking the custom design for this video, I would have made something that looks explicitly like a custom design. Like a bird, or a sun, or a flower... something simple and recognizable as a custom design.
If we're wrong, then I'll accept defeat with grace, but I think this is a good catch on your part, @jasa11 !

Yeah, I thought the same. It just might be a random thing but i was already 99% sure 2021 is the year nintendo is gonna release the rest of the older npcs and other potentialy new stuff that we have never had. Might be a hint to this months update but I wont get my hopes too high

Seeing as that is just Lloyd (who is in the game) and not a default Gyroid. I'm going to say there is no correlation.
That being said that isn't to deny that Gyroids may come, when they will is anybody's guess.
The Spider Crab comes by March, so if everyone has been catching stuff for the museum, that will be the last specimen needed. So implementing Gyroids as a new collectible afterwards would be a smart decision.

Yeah, atm its just a speculation but like im 99% sure gryoids will come very soon as they always been a huge part for the series.
Im lowkey hoping for the january update to have em but knowing that its pretty much another special event update, my hopes arent too high
I don't know. The gyroid on the shirt has a hardhat on. It's just the one we donate to for bridges and inclines.

Not sure about this. On one hand, it's very interesting that they did this (and specifically that they chose villagers of different sizes, making the design stretch into differently shaped gyroids). Could be a very subtle and deliberate hint, not sure if I'd put it on the January updatr though because the video is about new years resolutions and that means next december would still be valid.
On the other, we've had videos like these before, and their purpose has never really been to hint at future updates. It could just mean nothing, too.
I think the chances of gyroids being added before 2022 are pretty high, in any case.

The little quote says “ I’d like for my custom design to take off” as in come to life? That’s what I gathered from that.

Be very skeptical because knowing Nintendo they would not give the people what they want and they have different plans of adding content to the game that they thought of.

Reminds me of that time Nintendo posted about taxes and used a picture of Tom Nook and the AC fandom went nuts because people thought it foreshadowed a new game announcement. This was before we even had the title drop for NH.
I'm going to be skeptical about this meaning anything since I've learned to not expect anything from Nintendo unless they directly say something.
I would be happy if gyroids did some back though so not going to complain if this does end up being a hint.

Hmm interesting detail there, would be cool if this truly foreshadows the return of gyroids, but I will take it with a grain of salt because it’s also possible that we may be reading too much into it... will see. Not a huge fan of gyroids to begin with so I’m honestly not bothered by the lack of them in NH. If they do make a come back I’d like see them serve a more useful purpose.
