Every leaker under the Sun is corroborating NateTheHate now, saying Nintendo will reveal the Nintendo Switch 2 on Jan. 16th, so this Thursday.

How do you feel about that? The wait is now over. This is the year we might have a look at Animal Crossing 6 on a much more powerful system.

Is there any basis around it being a next version of the switch? Or is it just as likely there will be a brand new device out of the blue?

I don't think Nintendo will want to ditch portability by limiting it just to TV (or even a remote play device like ps5 has).

I recon if it's to stay handheld / TV , it will likely be a new improved switch, but just how many people will buy it compared to the likes of the 7 inch switch 1.

I don't mind spending another £400 but not on something that's practically too similar to what I've got now.

I am so tired of rumors... I will believe it when I hear it!

I am definitely looking forward to an official announcement though. I hope these leakers are finally right this time!

I feel like a new Animal Crossing is a ways off though. It makes "Nintendo Sense" to release a few other bigger games... Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc... before Animal Crossing.. it's coming though!

Never really got a proper AC game for Wii U, I recon they'll miss a console and milk new horizon with dlc or something

I definitely think they'll release a new AC, but I don't think it'll be this year. If theres one thing Nintendo likes more than anything it's money and they'd be silly not to make a new one for a new console after the success NH had during COVID. I don't think it'll be too different from NH tbh, but I'm hoping they add back features that they didn't use in NH that make me want to play longer. e.g. shop remodels.

The Switch 2 is the worst kept secret in the industry. The thing has leaked left and right during the last two months. We know exactly what it looks like : a bigger Nintendo Switch that is mate black with blue and orange accent colors, a rounder dock, U-shaped stand, and mouse-like features for the new JoyCons that will magnetically attach to the device. It will sport a new C button right under the capture button on the right JoyCon.

It will be slightly more powerful than a base PS4, but be able to push graphics comparable to a PS4 Pro due to its newer architecture, more RAM, and DLSS capacities.

Guess it'll be similar after all it has to work with upcoming switch games like AZ Arceus

I don’t believe that it will be announced. Every week for the past ten months we keep hearing leakers claim that the Switch 2 is going to be announced and after the eighth time it was claimed to be happening that “this time it’s real.” And one of those supposed announcements for the Switch 2 that was reportedly true ended up being the Alarmo release trailer.

You can choose to not believe it will be revealed Thursday, but when even Kit & Krysta, former Nintendo employee and hosts of the now defunct Nintendo Minute YouTube channel chime in and say it's coming this week, you got a full deck of cards stacked against you.

It's happening this week. And it will mostly look like this render.

i've been sort of keeping up with the leaks. (well, they keep appearing on my feed, i haven't sought them out much.) i know backwards compatibility was already confirmed, i believe, so right now i'm more interested in how they're going to price it and what the launch titles will be. (or, at least, what pokemon za looks like.) i never owned the original switch, i have a switch lite with insufferable drift, so i wouldn't mind replacing it with the switch two. that said, i don't have a personal tv, so i'd have to see if i could play it on my monitor or just use it exclusively handheld. the price and launch titles will determine when i'm going to get it more than if, at this point. i think one rumor/leak was saying $400 CAD, but it's unclear if that's 400 in each individual currency or whatever $400 CAD is in my currency. if it's the former, that's a Little steep -- well, for me, not necessarily a console, i suppose. i didn't even get a lite until NH released, so if the price is that high, a new AC and/or the quality/release date of pokemon za will definitely be deciding factors.

I just want it to be announced already. We all know so much about it already so just confirm it all pleaseeeee Nintendo hahaha. I'm curious of the launch titles for it. If it's Animal Crossing, I'm biting right away, otherwise I'll wait a bit. There's no rush for me.

My only question is, will the games released for this “Switch 2” work with the original Switch, like with DSi-enhanced games and the DS?

I haven't been paying attention to the leaks enough to believe or disbelieve this, but I'm definitely excited to see if we'll actually get our first real look at the switch 2 this week! I wasn't expecting it to happen this early in the year—I anticipated it being announced in a direct in February or something—but this is exciting!

The launch titles will determine how quickly I buy the new console, and I don't see them interesting me enough for it to be an immediate buy (unless one of the launch titles is a new Tomodachi Life or AC game, which I doubt), but I'm still excited to learn about the features and see what the launch titles will be!! I'm also so curious about what the new console's name actually is! I doubt all of this will get announced this week, if anything gets announced at all, but I'm excited to see what happens! Crossing my fingers for portability and backwards compatibility. 🤞🏻

After a long and stressful autumn expecting to get a Switch 2 announcement but only getting some (admittedly pretty interesting or out of left field) other announcements, I'm really glad that we've finally got to a point where it's (very possibly) happening!

Slightly surprised that it's meant to be happening on Thursday given, y'know, it's the release date for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, but I think it makes sense to do it before stuff like the next investor meeting at the start of February (because you've then got investors going "where's the successor to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, huh?", and they've already had to trickle out little titbits after the past two meetings to pacify them), which is the last meeting before the end of the financial year at the end of March (and we're supposed to be getting an announcement before then). You've got the Super Bowl just after that, so you've got a big marketing opportunity in America.

Just think, we're going to hear news of the 40th anniversary Mario game and the next Mario Kart soon! We could even hear about Animal Crossing: New Discourse (if it's not coming out around about the time of the Switch 2 Lite in another couple of years, like NH was... but idk, I honestly can't see them doing Splatoon 4 this soon, considering 3's got repeat Splatfests until at least July. But probably not this year specifically?). It's happening. It's time.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was $400 US, hence around $549 CA. It's a bit steep, but inflation has really ramped up since 2020.

People say that Nintendo never lowered the price of the Nintendo Switch since 2017. But just by keeping the system at 299$ US, they lowered the price quite a bit. The $299 USD people were paying for a Switch in 2017 is now worth $399 in 2025.

So I fully expect Nintendo to launch the Switch 2 at $399 USD.

I would be very very surprised if we were able to insert Nintendo Switch 2 cards in the Switch 1. But, Nintendo might release Switch 1 versions of some of their 2025 releases like Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Z-A.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts. Like if it's actually pretty different from the Switch and has upgraded capabilities, great... but honestly if it ends up being too similar I may just not purchase it for awhile, especially since my current Switch backlog is still massive and I don't see myself completing it anytime soon. In fact my Switch has been collecting dust for weeks on end because I've been focused on other games and things in life.

Also, if they don't discontinue online services with NSO with the current Switch, I don't see any reason to HAVE to upgrade to this new system. I don't know what the verdict on that is or if we've received information about it because I haven't researched it, but knowing Nintendo lately there's a chance, and if they do it's probably going to make a lot of people pretty angry, lol.

At that point, I'm not sure I'd want that option anyway. The regular Switch can barely handle Switch games as it is lol.

We have to keep in mind that 2020 was an incredibly stressful year to go through for everyone, and New Horizons releasing near the peak of lockdown boosted sales tremendously (It’s one of the best-selling games of all time in Japan now if I’m not mistaken). A lot of people unfamiliar with the series played it to get their minds off what was going on, and even a few celebrities such as Elijah Wood played it.

While unrelated things are still screwing up certain parts of the world, I highly doubt the next Animal Crossing will match New Horizon’s sales. Nintendo dropping feature support after just over a year to focus on Splatoon 3 wasn’t all that great, but given that the latter is still in its official event support window for another few months, I’d like to take a wild guess and say that something AC-related will get announced after the window closes, but I’m not fully betting on it.

That Wii U period wasn’t all that great for Nintendo overall. Low console sales combined with mediocre reviews for several of their other games didn’t help matters. Heck, not long after Amiibo Festival released, the Welcome Amiibo update for New Leaf came from pretty much out of nowhere, being released three years after the original game. Nintendo was very happy to be rid of the Wii U once they got the Switch going.

I would genuinely be surprised if a new DLC was announced for New Horizons. The game hasn’t seen any form of recognition other than real life third-party collaborations since the 2.0 update. If Nintendo themselves mentioned that it would be the last feature update, they meant it. The closest to new AC content we got since then was the offline version of Pocket Camp. Yes, we’re a bit overdue for a proper announcement, but this year is Super Mario Brothers’ 40th anniversary, and we all know where most of the focus will be on.

I’m hoping for 4K support. It doesn’t have to be spectacular, but upcoming games should be able to look pretty good upscaled on modern TV’s. As for the next Animal Crossing, more RAM hopefully means more villagers to be around. I want more than 10 in my town!

I haven’t really been paying attention to the rumors enough to know if I actually trust them or not but if there really does end up being an announcement video this Thursday, then I’m excited to see what the new console is like. I probably- actually, definitely won’t get it early but I might get it first or second year. I hope that if it’s backwards compatible with the Switch, they fix the performance issues the Switch has sometimes, and also that drift isn’t as much of an issue. Making it backwards compatible would be smart since that way, they could release both Switch 1 and 2 games, and Switch 2 owners would be able to play both, which would incentivize people to get one. But I’m not sure how they would handle releasing games for two consoles at once.

Another thing I’m curious about is if you’d be able to link your Nintendo account to the new console and download your current Switch games if they’re digital and everything else stored on your Switch (like captures that were saved to the system memory). Knowing Nintendo, thought, they either won’t do it for some reason or they will, but make it way more complicated than it needs to be. And then what games will be released within the first year, I’m excited for that.
