These new channels on the Wii are just flat-out unnecessary. At first, when the news and weather channels were announced, I thought that was pretty cool. But, now that they've been out a while, how many times have you actually used them? Do you check the weather on your Wii every morning? Probably not - you just turn on the news or The Weather Channel on TV for the forecast. And, as for the news - how many people use the Wii's channel to stay up-to-date on news rather than a website, the newspaper, or a TV channel? Not many.

But still, those two channels are pretty neat, and can be useful, at times.

Nintendo really went overboard with the Everyobdy Votes channel, and now Miyamoto has announced there will be another channel, and rumors have it that it will be an ongoing contest to create celebrity-look-alike Miis. Suppossedly, Wii owners who best recreate these celebrities will win some sort of prize.

As you have probably noticed first-hand, the EV channel is pretty much a waste of time. If people only play games online (such as popular DS titles, like Metroid Prime Hunters and MarioKart DS), how long do you think they'll vote in these random polls? I'd have to say not very long. Maybe you went and voted to see what the channel was... but there is no way that a large number of people is going to regularly visit and vote on the EV channel.

And now we find out about this 'Celebrity Miis' channel. I have no doubt this channel will be tons of fun to participate in... the first time. But in all honesty, as I've said for the each of the aforementioned channels, will anyone come back to this channel week in and week out to transform some celebrity int oa Mii? No. One positive thing that comes out of this is that there will be prizes given away. If actual Wii games, or Wii Shop points are given away on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, that'd be great! I have mentioned in past articles of mine how much I'd love for Nintendo to do some promotion of this sort, and why it'd be really effective, but that's another story. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Nintendo giving away small prizes, that probably have very little, if any, value to them. Maybe the winner's recreation of the celebrity will be downloadable for people to use as a Mii n games like Wii Sports. My point is this: othe rthan the creator of that Mii, and his/her firends, practically no one will care.

And that's what this post is about - no one cares. It makes you wonder if Nintendo cares about Wii's online functions. Don't get me wrong - the Wii is amazing... but it could be even better if Nintend owould go down the right road with the Wii and taking advantage of all its online capabilties. Instead of these extra channels, let's see some additions to current channels - maybe a 'Demo Download Center added onto the Wii Shop Channel, or an add-on to the News Channel where there is all the Nintendo-related news you could want, from Nintendo and its 3rd parties (just putting up even press releases on the News Channel would be nice).

So, please Nintendo, I'm begging you, make my optimistic hopes become truths... and give me less to be so pessimistic about.

:D

Feel free to reply here as well,

Well me personally I enjoy the Everyone Votes channel. It gives me something to do when I'm bored.

Mii channel may not be so fun and the contests may not be so great...

Although Nintendo can always change something just by having a system update.

You read my mind about the ev channel... it was just like how brain age was for me, I played it everyday for a week or two, then almost never after that.

Sadly, I'm smelling hacks for the mii channel coming.

(hey, don't be thinking I would!)

So much hype before anyone plays/uses it... then it just kinda quietly dies out, pathetically.
