Old enough to remember...

KIDPIX! I have a copy of this on my usb XD

I'm in the upper 3% of old here (will be 36 in November), so I remember a very different time, childhood in the 1990s (and even some trace memories of the 1980s):

typewriters (I first learned how to type on one of these, not a computer keyboard)

music cassette tapes (CDs were starting to overtake them when I was a kid, but they were still fairly common -- recording songs off the radio with cassette tapes was a youth pastime)

video cassette tapes for movies ("be kind, please rewind" -- DVDs didn't become a thing until I was a teenager)

laser discs (these were like the precursors to DVDs -- turned out to be a disaster technology, but one that one of my elementary school teachers thought was cutting edge at the time when I was in 4th grade, lol)

no PC at home until age 11 when family got one with Windows 95 (and even then, in 1995, it wasn't exactly common for families to have computers)

corded phones -- had no cell phone until adult years (got one of those Nokias when I was in college, 2002)

all 2D video games and animated TV shows/films -- 3D didn't take off until the mid 1990s (I recounted in another thread that I refused to watch Toy Story in 1995 because I didn't like the change to 3D)

Michael Jordan -- he's the GOAT in basketball (sorry LeBron)

God... take me All the way Back!!

Here are mine:

McDonald's turn-of-the-century mickey mouse cups! I still have two of these.

Hit Clips. I had Britney Spears's Overprotected on Hit Clip. No idea where my device went. :(

Edutainment PC games. Humongous Games had some of the best! And Reader Rabbit was a favorite of mine too. (Humongous has their point-and-clicks on Steam!)

I remember watching The Magic Roundabout (Doogal) a couple of times on DVD. I was so creeped out by it though lol.

I'm feeling video game nostalgia today - super mario world and older castlevania games(symphony of the night and earlier, NOT the N64 ones lol) were some of my favorites as a kid! I'd love to play mario world rn, maybe I'll buy it from the eShop 🤔

There’s so much nostalgia here 😭 Hopefully I have a few new ones on my list:
- the rise of Tamagotchis, then the subsequent rise of digital “Polly Pocket” type games that everyone would connect in the lunchroom
- Poochies, and how we all thought we were living in 2500 when we got one
- Having to call a friend on the home phone when you needed the math homework, and having to talk to a parent first 😣
- Being jealous of all my friends who got Gameboy Colours
- Impatiently rewinding VHS tapes and fast forwarding through the commercials
- The Zoombinis games on CD-ROM
- Colourful Mac computers

I was born in 2000, so I'm at the very end of the list, but there's a lot of stuff here people mention that I remember very vividly growing up. Didn't grow up with a lot of money or good cable so what I found at friend's houses, old commercials taped on VHS tapes, stories from parents, was what I thought was new at the time but actually older. A lot of this is coming back so it's pretty cool ^

Screaming at the Poo Chi!!!! I had one and thought it was so cool and futuristic!

Going to Blockbuster was seriously the most exciting thing ever 🥺

I can’t believe nobody mentioned The Magic School Bus. Although I remembered it as early as when I was a baby, it was relatively new back when I was a baby. It may have been a classic, but I remember back when it was new.
That was one of my favourite shows!!

@amemome omg Hit Clips! Wow that’s a flashback.

Even better if you had the ones that moved.

When webpages looked like this.

TV wise: waking up to watch “One Saturday Morning” and then watching “America’s Funniest Home Videos” with the family before bed.

Wow this is a blast down memory lane. 90s kid here and proud!

I remember what it was like not having a mobile phone and needing a house phone to contact people.
When my Dad first got the internet in
and it would make that dial up noise.
The noise it made if you picked up the phone when someone was using the internet 😂
Oh and how long every web page took to load!
It taking hours to download anything from good old IE.

I remember so much (and lots of people have reminded me of many more) but the tv shows were the best. Power Rangers and the great shows on Nickelodeon like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sister Sister and Kenan and Kel ❤️ I also remember when anime first started showing and you could only watch it on TV. Pokemon, Sailor moon, DBZ and Cardcaptors were some of my first. You had to work for anime back in the day!

And let’s not forget that you couldn’t pause “live” tv and recording was a pain because you had to set up the VHS. Ok I’m going to stop now lol 🤫

Lol I still have my moveable butterfly hair clips! I wear them from time to time unironically. I had no idea they were actually so old 😂

I remember being in possession of various, different toys from food restaurants, such as Pizza Hut (Burger King as well). Some of those were plastic/rubber puppets from like 1995 and 1996. I had this Hammerhead shark while my siblings had the dolphins. You could fill these up with water and then spray them like a water gun! We also had some Casper puppets. Those didn't squirt water, but they did glow in the dark (I think).

At my school, I also remember utilizing the colored Apple computers when they were just brand-new. These came in a variety of different colors and were translucent. I'm not exactly certain what year this was, but it must have been sometime in the late 1990s. Prior to this, my school only had those older, plain white computers (which I also got the chance to use).

On both of these computers, I played games such as The Oregon Trail and Word Munchers/Number Munchers! (There was also another one in the series called Super Munchers, as featured in the YouTube video below). I especially liked these games with the little frog and the Troggle monsters who constantly tried to devour him. Fun and educational!

There's a lot of other things that I remember, of course (maybe I'll post some more later on).
