Phobias, reasons that stop you from seeing some movies

I'm fine watching most horror scenes but anything involving limbs I cant watch, I need to turn away until it's off the screen. Not sure if there is a name for this.

On another note. It doesn't stop me from watching movies, but I am a bit chiroptophobic (fear of bats) because as a child I woke up in the middle of the night with one in my room flying around my head. It is a little weird though cause I do think they are kind of cute.......... as long as they keep their distance.

I have no fears that would stop me from watching a movie or a scene in a movie, because I know it's fake. I do worry about being tramatized by short form social media videos like TikTok, Reels, YT Shorts ect. The problem with these is that there is no warning you're about to see something horrible, and further that I have no idea if it's real or not.

Skyfall has been the only movie that I immediately stopped watching because of a phobia. I do have some incidents where I had to turn off the tv because I was triggered by something. Usually it’s Law & Order: SVU. Even hearing an episode play on tv triggers me and I must turn it off.

I usually don't watch the ones taking place in hospital and/or where a character has cancer. It triggers too many bad memories.
I prefer watching unrealistic fictions.

I can't watch anything with spiders! Also, anything even suggesting real animal abuse. I had to turn off "Don't F With Cats" on netflix about 10 minutes in.

I have a severe spider phobia and just can’t watch anything that has them in it (I avoid pictures too, I know I’m hopeless )

I cry far too easily at movies. My son laughs at me as I couldn’t watch “the fox and the hound” without sobbing

I don't do extreme horror that revolves around ghosts or demonic entities that are designed to scare the crap out of you. The same goes for gore and violence that doesn't need to be visualised on screen.

I can watch whatever. Nothing creeps or grosses me out, nothing offends me. It's not even about being edgy lol I'm just desensitized. Most of the time I find things interesting rather than cruel, mean or scary. Live feedings? I could watch those all day. I love seeing nature doing her thing.

Okay let me not say anything lol because if it has buzzing insects or the sound of a crying baby, I'm out. I'm more bothered by auditory factors rather than visual.

I don't stop watching a film, even if it has a scene that has something gross or scary in it. I even try to watch through an entire boring film, in order to see if it gets any better. If it turns out to be completely boring from the beginning, then I'm never going to watch it again, I am so out.

I'm not even sensitive to a lot of things in films, and I don't even cry during sad scenes, either, but there are even some scenes I don't like, due to being grossed out.

Hospital scenes only slightly irk me a little bit, but it gets worse if a woman gives birth on-screen, and sometimes they straight up show it on-screen, especially if it's a close-up...however, I'm fine with it if the birth scenes are off-screen.

I don't watch horror films at all. Not because they're scary, but because they're boring and overrated. My mom doesn't like horror films, either, so we both stay away from the horror genre.

I also don't like on-screen vomiting, it's better when the vomiting is off-screen.

Obscene body horror, torture, and harm to children/animals make me sick to my stomach. I can handle some amount of gore, but movies like the Saw/Human Centipede series are ones I stay far away from. Watched a horror movie the other day that I didn’t realize had graphic body horror and harm to children until it happened, and felt extremely disturbed for a good long while. A slightly milder phobia (but not by much) is bugs, especially spiders, crawling on/in a person.

My only phobia doesn't translate to film, not really. I think I can watch pretty much everything, I have a high tolerance. But I don't really wanna watch anything but (rom)coms and horror movies. With that I don't like gore, body horror and excessive jumpscares.

Yeah, as a huge James Bond fan, Daniel Craig's 007 movies aside from Casino Royale are phobias to me, lol. But in all seriousness, can you elaborate on what happened in Skyfall that you had to stop? If not, that's fine: if someone says they couldn't watch Skyfall, I sympathetically agree and try to connect them to the nearest copy of From Russia With Love or GoldenEye to rinse out their eyeballs.

I have an irrational phobia of snakes. I used to jump just seeing pictures of them without expecting it-- but I've been better about that recently. I can handle watching movies with snakes in them to an extent, as long their involvement in the film isn't excessive or scary. (I usually look away for the duration of the scene when they appear too haha.) I can handle cartoony snakes and stuff like that just fine.

As for other things, it depends. I have an overactive imagination and tend to have really vivid dreams-- so if something I see in a film really sticks with me then I'm liable to have nightmares about it for weeks. I can watch some horror films, but anything with gratuitous gore or torture isn't for me. (I'm kinda sensitive to jumpscares too.) I can handle the horror genre better in video games where the art style isn't quite so realistic-- stories with horror elements can be so suspenseful and interesting! It's really just a matter of the images I see (or even the sounds I hear) really sticking in my brain and providing nightmare fodder. When it comes to film, I'd say I vastly prefer the horror-comedy genre where there are some breaks to breathe and relax between the scarier scenes.

I tend to avoid movies featuring cancer, too. Or rather, I have to make sure I'm in the right headspace for it. It can bring up some traumatic memories for me.

Someone already mentioned, but for me it's also when people throw up in movies. I remember watching the Sandlot for the very first time, and the carnival scene with the puking came on. I was traumatized for life! I can't stand when someone in real life does it, so to see it on screen with so many people doing it, I was terrified.

So, ever since then, every time we watch the Sandlot, SOMEONE ELSE NOT ME, has to either fast forward the puking scene, or I need to leave the room and someone needs to tell me it's over. IT'S THAT BAD....

I have seen the Sandlot MANY MANY times in my life, however I have only ever seen that scene ONCE... and only once... never again... I will continue to walk out of the room and plug my ears every time that scene comes on.

I’ve directly avoided some movies taking place post-2020 (as well as older movies that deal with pandemics in general) that have COVID references as that whole ordeal made me incredibly anxious and queasy whenever I look at people wearing medical masks (and a few continuing to do so today despite not feeling sick at all) outside of a hospital. As I’m heavily against them due to this uneasy feeling, it prevents me from wanting to watch Dumb Money for example, which is supposed to be somewhat funny in tone otherwise.

Unrelated to that, I tend to not have a big interest in realistic-yet-fictional war movies where nuclear weaponry is involved, such as Oppenheimer. I don’t know what it is, but when people who are screwed up in the brain want to destroy an entire country and don’t care about the consequences afterward, it makes me nervous and scared. There have been a few close calls throughout history since World War II, and I prefer not to become influenced by the idea if I can.

I have emetophobia, so if I know a movie has a scene where someone gets sick, I won't watch it. If it happens unexpectedly I'll close my eyes and plug my ears or mute the TV.

Aside from that, I also won't watch a movie if I know someone gets assaulted because it just really disturbs me and then I won't stop thinking about it.

I can't watch any form of realistic bullying, especially cyber bullying and online stalking, in series or movies about high schoolers. I had to drop a certain Netflix series set in a high school for that reason. It doesn't bother me in high school anime though since they don't involve real actors and the characters in those shows usually talk like adults.

I don’t watch a film because it’s too scary, suspenseful, violent/bloody. Most recently, because the writer or actors are Zionist and/or support genocide. My entertainment is not worth the lives being killed with the money that is sent to that country.
