Place your random thoughts.

The volume of my music went way up randomly, and it nearly scared the crap out of me. šŸ˜ I didn't see the volume slider move (nor did I press any keys on my keyboard), so that's very strange.

If I was listening to Slipknot or some equally loud-sounding band, I probably would've jumped out of my seat. XD

Itā€™s been years since I last made a political thread on TBT. It may be an election year, but I donā€™t think Iā€™m gonna create any political threads on Brewsterā€™s.

I think the whole reason why we had an influx of political topics last decade was because we never had Donald Trump as the president until he got elected in 2016. Itā€™s also worth mentioning that Obama got many social progresses through, and the Republicans are full on ready to reverse the social progresses, which the liberals feared. Hence all of the political topics. As for today, they slowed down because we got tired of the political discussions after all the drama it caused on TBT, and we didnā€™t want to continue it.

So yep, I wonā€™t be making any political topics. The world may have gotten worse since the pandemic started, and yet, Iā€™m still not going to start a political topic. What I actually want now is civility, acceptance towards people who are politically neutral or indifferent, and to be free to say or do whatever I want for as long as Iā€™m not harming others.

Is there really no feature to fully ignore people? That surprises me.

(Forgive me for what might be an obvious question, I only started really hanging around here last week).

There's an ignore feature, but it doesn't completely remove the person in question's posts/messages/etc. from you seeing them. That's why I mentioned a complete one. Something similar has been discussed in the past on the site.

It also doesnā€™t prevent the user youā€™re blocking from seeing your posts either. Thatā€™s one problem with the current ignore list. Blocking others isnā€™t going to change the fact that they can still read and quote your posts.

I don't really want a dislike button implemented, but I'd fully support a more complete ignore feature, and also the ability to hide threads. Sometimes I just really don't want to think about a certain thread topic for whatever reason, but I have nothing against the person who started the thread, and certainly wouldn't want to ignore them just so I wouldn't have to see it.

I agree that a dislike button isnā€™t a good idea, as that could breed drama. Even the like button can breed drama, but through more subtle ways (like exclusion and liking a post that was solely made to bully others). The only negative reactions I can remember on TBT are Grinch reacts and snowball reacts, and even that was meant for an event.

But yes, a hide thread feature is a good idea. That way, you can keep the political topics away while other topics will still appear.

Another forum I lurk on implemented a dislike button and it led to a lot of passive aggressive comments from users who hated seeing how many forum members disagreed with their opinions. The button in question was promptly deactivated.

An ex friend of mine is now calling herself a cosy gamer on Instagram despite never showing an interest in gaming to begin with. Weird.

There's a few of us who have clocked it being used to bully or gang up on individuals. And isolate others. You see it on social media too obviously. Gives me a giggle when I see it as it's like the bully's sidekick peering over the ringleader's shoulder like "YEAH!" without any actual input themselves.

People with lower self esteem would probably find this tough though. But I hope nobody bases their self-worth off numbers of likes etc on an Animal Crossing forum anyway. Or social media for that matter.

I was just reading about alternate proposed US demonyms like Usonian, Uessian, and Unisian. That had me thinking, Unovan could literally be one if it wasnā€™t copyrighted Xā€™D

i was playing srb2 (school desktops ftw!), a resync happened while i was traversing a zone, and i lost all 6 of my lives (everyone else on server died too). my question: what happened

iā€™ve been around for two leap days on tbt (2020 and this year)

I found a script of an early draft of the South Park movie. Thereā€™s a lot of minor differences between it and what ended up in. Thereā€™s even a song that didnā€™t make it in.

I feel like a dislike button would just be abused. Same with a laugh react. You can bet someone is going to use both for the wrong reasons. 'Clowning on people' or using the dislike to turn things into a clique. I don't need or want to see Twitter-esque mentality on the forum.
Especially with the possibility of people disliking or laughing at people's islands they've worked hard on, their event entries, creative works in the Museum... I hear about young artists getting viciously mocked on TikTok a lot and it makes me so mad. It's a big reason I avoid TikTok, and I definitely wouldn't want to see that kind of toxicity here.

The best way to make TBT Bells is through boring, but practical ways. But I also learned thereā€™s another factor to becoming rich - patience. If I can wait for months, then I can get back up to 10,000 TBT Bells.
