In Wild World, if a villager was moving, you could convince them to stay, but in New Leaf, they are dead set on moving and there is nothing you could do. Now that's not to be confused with the time they come up to you and say they're thinking about moving.

So if a villager is in the process of moving, you're SOL.

For the Switch version, I'd appreciate it if we could go back to convincing the villagers to stay put.

Does anyone agree or possibly disagree?

I mean a good majority of the time the villager comes up to you to tell you that they are moving in new leaf, and it gives you the option to let them go to keep them, I think that convincing them wouldnt really be necessary, i havent had a case of a villager just moving out without telling me yet

Sometimes even telling the villager to stay wont work. I had instances where I say "don't go" and they still leave.

Wait, seriously? I tried doing this with Patty in WW for over 10 minutes and she still moved (also, there was a Fishing tourney that day...so maybe thats why?)

Huh, never had that happen to me...

There are times where you don't run into this villager, or maybe you haven't played in a few days. You get on one day and Isabelle tells you they are moving.

I remember an option coming up so you could say something along the lines of "Don't Go", and they will be like "Wow, you really think I should stay? Okay, I'm staying in [Town]", and the following day their house would be back to normal (no more moving boxes)

I may have to boot up my Wild World and try recording it if I am right.

what about if villagers don't even tell you they're moving or ever be in boxes and just up and leave?

That is problesome. Isabelle usually tells you when they're in boxes, however, IIRC, the neighbors have a set moving date, which means if you don't play on this date, you will miss them. The only way to know the date is to have the interaction where they tell you they want to leave. I think they will usually say something like "I'm picking up and heading out on March 18, 2019".

I'm not sure though if they can just disappear without having a conversation with them about moving or with Isabelle first, though I could be wrong.

Having a final chance to stop them once they are packing up is better than nothing though.

I think it would be good to have this feature back, but only work for villagers with a high friendship. They would remark "You really want me to stay that bad? Why didn't you tell me sooner!", or something like that, and then stay. I think it'd make sense to only allow it to work once per villager, though, and as I said only on those with a high friendship. It wouldn't make sense to be able to convince a villager you've talked to once that they should stay in town!

tbh, 50/50
In WW, Mitzi kept leaving in WW but i kept persuading mitzi to not leave. She is still there XD
Apollo left without notice in Town Lazy, left a letter in the mail.(NL)
Gabi and Annalisa left without me knowing in Town kenma, I miss them, havent seen them in months....(NL)
If they told me sooner, I wouldnt want them to go.
Colton was in boxes and he was planning to leave. I really didnt want him to go

After Gabi, Annalisa and colton left, Butch, Renee and Freya took their spots. I hate freya's house placement, it like chopped down like 5 pessimon trees i planted there.
So basicly im saying you could meet new villagers if they left

I think the ability to have a last attempt to convince them not to move would be nice.

I also want them to decrease the time villagers ask to move and the date of when they actually move. I swear it takes them like 2 weeks to leave. Like 5-7 days please.

It used to be this, but the WA update changed that to 10 days

I think WW has the best villager moving system; I hate how in CF/NL you can?t stop them if they?re in boxes and in NL villagers take 10 days to move which is way too long (and for some reason Frobert took a month to move, I have no idea why). I just want my villagers to go in and out so I can get a replacement fast. I started a WW town in October and have already gone through over 30 villagers, while my NL town I had for over 3 years went through 55. Villagers telling you they?re planning to move in advance is okay, but I think have them start planning 2/3 days ahead of time max and allowing you to stop them once they?re in boxes as well would work well.

i think the new leaf system was fine and i want to keep it that way

i hate the new leaf system honestly, i'd like to be able to prevent villagers from moving even when they're in boxes.

that or have the game makes sure you know if and when a villager is moving rather than relying on them pinging you to tell you. regardless it shouldn't stay the same as it is in new leaf.

I’ve noticed with the NL system of moving a few years back (2015, way before the WA update) unless you have spoken to them recently, they won’t ping at this point in time, I had roughly 30 people move out, some I wanted, some I didn’t. (a majority of them were ok to go)

This brings up another point, as this happened a few years back, but it’s more of a QOL that I’d like to see improved on, is that during any tournament (I don’t know if this applies to holidays), I’d like to be pinged by a mover istead of finding out the next day they’re leaving, and talking to anyone else but the mover before it happens during the tourney won’t say anything about anyone moving and will comment on the event.

I don’t know if this is in game, but is is possible to be pinged after an event is over?

Heck I’d like to see the NL and WW mechanics comibined (essentially, the early warning ping of NL and the convincing of staying if you are in boxes of WW)

when a villager is thinking about moving, they'll come up to you and you have the option to convince them to stay. i don't know what version of new leaf you're playing haha but you're wrong. they let you convince them to stay.

I think this is a good idea. I loved Zell in my brothers town and he just randomly moved yesterday without telling me :( He was in boxes and I couldn’t do anything to stop him. I hope this will be an option in NH.

Again, why it’s why I said “recently” and notice I said before the WA update

Also, my comment may have been confusing, but what I meant is that if you haven’t spoken to them in weeks (due to being busy and what not) they don’t ping you unless they have been talked to that day (or the last few days) WA fixed that with the 10 day warning deal, but you still need to speak to someone if you intend on keeping them a while longer.

I hope instead of having a ping, it’s just a regular dialogue option that comes up with top priority, like how requests from villagers were always first when you talked to them. Then, if you change your mind, each day there would be a third dialogue option that could trigger them talking about moving. And have us be able to convince them in boxes too.

If you really want to make it convenient, have the villager make a post on the bulletin board saying they’re moving so you can go talk to them.
