• Guest, you're invited to help build our new TBT time capsule! It contains three parts, with some of its elements planned to open in 2029 and others not until the distant future of 2034. Get started in 2024 Community Time Capsule: Blueprints.

Pokémon Pokemon General

I'll probably order these from play-asia and put them on my New 3DS when I get it- I'll most likely use the Kyogre one since the Ground on one looks too orangey...

the kyogre one is bottom screen only (hence the screws), and groudon is top screen only (in case you thought they were two seperate designs??) unless you mean you'll use the bottom kyogre shell and use something else for the top screen?

Ah, I didn't notice that, I thought they were two interchangeable top screen plates... I probably won't buy it then and just wait until they release a decent Groudon cover plate :/

It's a set, you'd look kinda silly with just the bottom, unless you managed to find something to match the Kyogre bottom.

The demo also has level up moves of all the Pokemon. It's interesting that the AZ Floette learns Light of Ruin instead of Moonblast. It also has entire level up lists for unreleased Pokemon, though I see Serebii has already included the lists in the Pokedex.

My normally amazing observation skills have failed me today... As I mentioned in my last post I'm now going to skip it. *Is a bit embarrassed*

Also I have just realised that I'm now not able to go into town to get the Gengar serial code- and potentially the Diancie code (Yay for getting a full time job!)- I'll pay TBT bells for a working spare for the Gengar (I don't really have any shinies or 5-6 iv Pokemon to give someone) and maybe the Diancie in the future if I need it.

I don't have any spare codes as I redeemed mine already, I could send you one of the two I have though. But I assume you'd like a code so you can reset for nature and stuff.
I might be able to get another one, I'm not sure. I'll have to check tomorrow.

I'm not really bothered about the nature as I already have a semi-competitive Gengar, I'm more after just adding another shiny to my collection. I haven't found out my hours yet so I may have time to go and get a code anyway, if not one of my friends has just said she would try to get me one since she is going into Game herself next week. Thank you for the offer though.

I just heard about the fact that X/Y aren't getting a patch so the new megas etc. can be traded between the new games, and that you can no longer customize your trainer. This is extremely disappointing and I don't see a legitimate reason for them doing this.

I feel like It'll only be a matter of time before Pokemon in general is ruined for me. I never really liked the mega evolutions, and I don't feel that they were needed. I find that the games are becoming worse as time goes by, and it sucks.

Pretty disappointing now that they actually have the capability to patch and update games.

For the Megas: In previous games, all new forms were exclusive to their games but could still be used in battle with the older versions. Deoxys in G3, Giratina and Shaymin in G4, Kyurem and the Tao trio in G5. I may have forgotten a few, but I think people should have expected that even though it would be possible for them to make a patch to include the new items and forms, they would've kept with the tradition of how previous games handled it. There's also the fact that we still don't know how Primal Reversion is done, and that due to the amount of Megas + addition of new gameplay mechanics, the patch would have been too large to make. If they're gonna update X/Y with the changes made in OR/AS, I wouldn't expect to see them reflected until Z is released. And even then there won't be a patch for previous games to include all the new items and forms.

As for the trainer customization, I mentioned it a few pages back (link to post). These are the same arguments used by Masuda in the interview with US Gamer, so that is the team's main reasoning for removing customization. You could also see it as a way to save space and make the games around the same size as X/Y. Customization items would take up enough data to bloat the game a bit, and I think they'd much rather use that space for things like the new Megas, new PokeNav features, Contests, Soaring and the legendary Pokemon you can find through it, etc.

Gotta be honest though, I'm surprised that people aren't yelling about skating being replaced by sneaking.

I dunno, I'd say that every generation introduced on a new console starts off kinda crap. We give X/Y a lot of **** but forget that D/P wasn't that great either when they were first released. OR/AS should be a more refined experience, and focuses on other things than X/Y. The X/Y features will also return if/when they make a third iteration, Z or X2/Y2, whatever it'll be called.

D/P was never great.

Tradition or not, it's still crap reasoning to not update X/Y. We live in an age where games are easily patched, where handheld games can be patched and given more life via content. There's really no excuse at all to not update these games.

See, I understand that to an extent, but what kind of logic is that? "Well the old times were like this, so we aren't going to take advantage of new technology and means of creating a better, more complete experience." It just doesn't make any sense to me. If they're trying to push out great titles, they aren't doing that great of a job. You would think with all of the fan feedback available on the internet they would understand that if they want to make more $$$ they need to appeal to a wide audience.

I just think it sucks because I waited years for customizable trainers, and they finally added it into the game, yet they're taking it out so quickly?

The skating this is a huge bummer too.

I somewhat agree that OR/AS should be focusing on other things, but there's no reason to take away great features. The only reasonable explanation is that Pokemon Z or whatever is going to have the best of both worlds, but knowing Nintendo that might not even happen.

is it just me or is XY/Z funny
i mean theres the xyz affair in us history, which were french agents or smth and xy is set in france kalos which is based on france
or am i looking into things too much
i have a tendency to do that

I am so happy skating has been removed. I hated it and pretty much kept my itemfinder out so I could still use the circle pad to walk.

My thoughts exactly. I'd rather have to buy a bigger SD card to download a giant patch, than have no patch at all.

True, but they also need to think of people's space constraints. 4GB is currently the norm for 3DS systems for people that haven't upgraded, and some of that already gets allocated to stuff like StreetPass data and whatnot. Previous X/Y patches have been pretty small (I believe around 30MB each) because all they needed to do was fix some bugs, meaning it was purely coding data. Now imagine that you have to add at least 18 more Mega forms, including their level up data, 3D models, sprites, items, etc. Add to that that Primal Reversion is (likely) done through a different method than Mega evolution, for which you need to patch in more gameplay coding, possibly extra 3D models. The list goes on, and eventually there's a point where it's fair to start assuming that such a patch would be about a half to a full GB large. A lot of games aren't even 1GB. Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D are both 512MB, for example.

While I think it's fair for us to expect patches for bugs and such, I think it's also fair for them to decide against patching a game so they actually don't cripple their audience that won't or can't upgrade their SD card size. After all, online features will lock out all people that refuse to update, thus forcing them to install (possibly) a GB of data just so they can battle their X/Y Pokemon.

I was kind of hoping for customization to come back better than it was in X/Y, but their reasoning makes sense. I'm only hoping that Z will bring the proper improvements to customization.

I really hope customization comes back. The reasoning is silly, it's like saying people in the Hoenn Region don't ever change clothes. People loved being able to identify with their trainers. To me, this feels as backwards as if they took out the ability to choose which gender to play as.

Got home from dropping my mum off at the train station and lo and behold one of my friends had put a gengar code through the letterbox, I am very lucky!
