I’m afraid of flying (specifically taking off because it feels unnatural). However, I’ve been on many, many flights before in spite of this. I’m not afraid to face my fears and stare them down.
I lived abroad for a couple of years, so I got used to transatlantic flights pretty quickly. If I wanted to get home and to college, I had to make multiple connecting flights on my own. There was no way of getting around flying, unless I wanted to charter a boat to France I guess. The turbulence can sometimes make me feel sick, but I'm not particularly scared about being up in the air.
What I am scared about though, is missing my flight for some reason, or boarding the wrong one! I always have so much anxiety when I'm trying to go to the airport because I don't want anything to go wrong, so I actually feel better once I sit down on the plane and reassure myself that I made it.
One time, my friends and I made the glorious decision of booking a 7:30 am flight from Munich to Paris because it was a cheap ticket and it'd give us enough time to settle down before college started again. We had to wake up at 4am to pack our bags, eat a bit, and check out, then trust that the hotel remembered to book our taxi at 5:30 am in the morning (and trust that the driver would show up and actually take us there). You usually don't need to leave that early for inter-Europe flights because there's no customs, but we were just so scared that we left a lot of time in our schedule as a buffer.
Another time, I was travelling with my school from our home to Hong Kong, and our connecting flight in Taipei was significantly delayed. Like, our school's chaperone started texting the travel agent as soon as we landed because we thought we'd miss our connecting flight and need to find accomodations for 15+ people kind of delayed. We ran through the airport, but thankfully, since we were on the same airline and there were many people on our flight who were also delayed, the plane waited for us! Though I would not have been opposed to spending the night in Taipei...
I haven't ever flown before, but the idea of flying terrifies me for a multitude of reasons, so I don't plan on flying anytime soon (if ever). I feel like the only way I could fly is if I had someone with me who could help keep me calm and relaxed for the duration of the flight, because lol that ain't happening if I'm flying solo.
I think it's less the actual flying, and more the fear that something will happen with the plane and it'll crash
something about being stuck in a big metal flying machine scares me lol
I like flying, especially visiting new places. I have been to quite a few countries like Japan, and some more. I like watching movies on the flight, or playing some games on my phone.
I am not afraid of flying but I also was in a plane event where we had to turn the plane around and land (some of the insulation burst and was flying around the cabin)...
I have some anxieties around bad plane events but I try to calm myself down by remembering that there's only a 1 in 20 million chance of dying in a plane accident.
Flying is okay. But long haul flights are terrible to endure. I don't mind short flights, by which I mean any flight that's 8 hours and under.
I do like getting the window seat so I can look at the big fluffy clouds outside.
One of the most memorable flights I've had was on a helicopter. That happened in New Zealand. It was taking us to a glacier. Flying in a helicopter is somehow way more exciting than in a commercial plane. I liked it.
Yes I absolutely hate it! I remember when I worked at my old job I had 2 really good friends who were pilots (regular customers) and I would sit and talk with them about the physics etc which totally made sense! But as soon as I’m on the plane in the air the physics go out of the window and I’m crying and hyperventilating thinking I’m about to die hahaha. I just hate being so far off the ground and it’s more the actual fear of falling that I’m scared of?
I wish there were more options in the poll. XD Anyways, take-off always makes me feel a bit nervous (I always read safety pamphlet after stowing away carry-on luggage... even though I've read it multiple times). If I happen to be awake when we hit turbulence, that freaks me out a bit. Otherwise, I'm alright with flying. Long flights (9 hours or longer) are always grueling. Being the middle seat especially is the worst because I feel like such an inconvenience whenever I have to get up and use the lavatory. >_<
When I was a kid, I hated using the lavatory because I thought that flushing would suck me out of the plane. Before I flushed, I would make sure to have my hand on the lock to make my escape after immediately flushing. I was a dumb kid. XD
Not at all, flying is very safe. Cars are much more dangerous. I'm way more afraid of cars as I've been in a car accident that could have easily ended deadly (I wasn't driving).
No I'm not afraid but have you seen the story about the Andes survivors? Kinda makes me wonder if I'd survive in a situation like a plane crash and getting stranded with no one searching for you. But as far as me being worried about a plane crash happening, I'm not. An accident is always a possibility in any vehicle, same as a car. But I'm not scared of being in a car either.
nope not at all, i quite enjoy it actually! flight disasters sound absolutely dreadful and horrifying and i can understand how people have a fear of flying, being suspended in the air isn't the most natural of feelings but i've always felt pretty safe in my 20+ or so flights
In-between yes and no? I feel very on-edge on planes and panic at the slightest turbulence. But the fear isn't great enough to stop me from getting on a plane, or cause me to worry about it for days in advance.
Nah. I've flown so many times, back and forth when I was in uni. Then for long haul flights (11 hours); it's more like the restless legs and it's hard to sleep is what I don't like.
The scariest turbulence I've experienced was on the short flight from SoCal to NorCal.
no not all but i hope to someday just for the views/experience
lmao im leaving that becus i forgot to explain and it makes that sentence funny compared to the question, i meant to explain that i've never been on a plane, but don't have a fear also xD
