I think they are just refering to the posters in NH though. They have been compatible since release

I'm trying not to get my hopes up but if my queens Etoile and Chai are added to the game I'm going to absolutely FLIP. I am hoping this is not just some half baked scheme to only offer us posters at Photopia. Perhaps this is a small taste of larger plans for March. If it is, likely the update will come before or coincide with the 3/26 release date. Interesting!

Inb4 there will be a Super Mario themed villager coming along with the update in March as well as the comeback of the previous amiibo villagers including the Sanrio villagers, hence the comeback of the Sanrio amiibo cards.
Otherwise, I don't know why they should bring back the cards if you can only use them to get some posters in-game right now.

aah I didn't know that. posters alone would be cute but I'm going to naively hope they wouldn't reintroduce sanrio cards just for that!

I would LOVE for the Sanrio villagers to come back, and please let it be with their furniture, I used to love LOVE it in New Leaf, they need to come back for real. I can't wait to get Marty back! However, I'm not too optimistic they will be there in March, the update is only showing mario items in it, and with the precedent with Festivale I don't wanna get my hopes up too much.

Yeah, honestly after today's trailer, I doubt we'll get much more in March apart from Mario-themed items.
I feel Mario will steal the spotlight. Like here's an update. We added some Mario stuff. See you in late-April/May.
surely nintendo won't say they're re-releasing sanrio amiibos without actually adding the villagers because they know pretty much everyone wants them back

Oh wow! I really do hope that this means the Sanrio villagers can be added to your island. Probably in the minority here, but if we can, I can't wait to add Rilla to my island!

i got the fake sanrio cards on ebay for like £12, they work the same way and are always being sold
i understand a lot of people prefer to use original cards though
just thought i would mention since it's easier to get the fake ones because yeah, the real cards are gonna be sold out quick
