Pokémon Shiny Hunting Experience

I finally did it!

I finished my national dex and got the shiny charm! Now I can go back to hunting for Eevee! :D

Only time I've ever been into shiny hunting was by chain fishing in Pok?mon X. Caught quite a few different ones this way, and I'd also do it to catch duplicates that I could then trade for shinies unavailable through chain fishing. Before Gen 7 came along, I ended up with almost 4 boxes full of various shinies by catching and trading using this method.

While I was gone I caught some more shinies!! :D

The early morning after I got off of here, I caught 2 shiny eevees. The first one was male and I wanted a female so I decided to go for 2. The male is now a shiny Umbreon, and the female is a shiny Epseon. I caught them at search levels of 874 and 943, but the chains were started at 813 and I think the shiny charm definitely helped!

The day after, I caught a shiny Ralts at a search level of 204 (I got really lucky!!) and I was so happy that it only took me less than a fay to find It! She's now a Gardevoir

I'm currently hunting for a shiny Zorua on Route 101 but I'm at a search level of about 250 and I haven't had any luck yet. I'll keep hunting though!

Never really been an avid shiny hunter, but it really peaked in Gen VI, so this is my experience:

Gen II: Outside of the Shiny Gyarados, I found a Shiny Geodude. At the time I don't even think I knew what a Shiny was. I just remember talking to my friends later "it shined at me", which I guess is why I was compelled to catch it.
Gen III: Found a random Shiny Zangoose and then wanted to actually Shiny Hunt, but because I was dumb I didn't actually understand the shiny odds and how they worked. Since the odds were 1/8000whatever, I thought it was unique to every Pokemon, and the more I encountered a certain Pokemon, the higher my odds were - if I went to an area where only one type of Pokemon appeared, my odds should be higher, right? So in doing so, I went to the route where only Spinda appeared, under the impression that because that was the only route you could find Spinda, that my odds would be increased, because nowhere else in the game was programmed to spawn a Shiny Spinda. Obviously this was wrong and I never found one, but I got a Shiny Sandshrew out of it.
Gen VI: Literally nothing. I think I chained once or twice using the PokeRadar but I could never understand and gave up after a few minutes.
Gen V: Same thing except I PokeChecked the national dex for that Shiny Haxorus and completed the thing with Benga for Shiny Gibble.
Gen VI: This is where things get wild. Not sure what my actual first Shiny was in these games. If I went back I'm sure I'd be able to find it since I documented it, but I know with the addition of hordes and chain fishing it was insane. I spent so much time chain fishing and horde battling that I got so many Shinies, and I used the Masuda Method for a Shiny Bidoof. Then I discovered the Friend Safari... My copy of X has over 300 hours of gameplay, and I know for a fact that 200+ of those hours were spent Shiny Hunting. I preferred the Friend Safari since I found that to be the quickest method, and I think I ended up getting around 3 boxes of Shiny Pokemon. I also used Reddit with the Shiny ID thing a few times to nab a handful. I also tried the masuda method with Treecko to try nab one before ORAS released so I could start off with one, but I gave up. With ORAS, I think I only got a few Shinys, I found a random Shiny Maril on the route the daycare is on, and that really peaked my interest again, but I don't think I ever found anything outside of that. I tried hordes and the DevNav because I heard that worked but I never got anywhere
Gen VII: Ultra Worm Holes helped me a little. I know I got a Shiny Drapion but I think that's all I got because I gave up after a day or two.

It's funny because X and Y are my least favorite games, which is probably why I spent so much time Shiny Hunting, but I just remember 2013 and 2014 being filled with Shiny Hunting guides on YouTube because them doubling the odds was so insane.

Finally got me a shiny Zorua at a search level of 404! I can't wait to have a purple zoroark

I plan on attempting to Masuda a ghost Pokemon starting tomorrow. Im stuck deciding between Shuppet, Pumpkaboo, Sableye, and Phantump. I'm open to suggestions!

I'm trying to get a shiny Sentret though the Masuda method, already 600+ eggs and still no shiny.
I'm starting to wonder if shiny Sentret even exist.

Also I accidentally gave an egg to the Nursery lady. ;----;

I feel your pain. One of my last big Masuda hunts was for a shiny Trapinch a while back. 3000+ eggs before finally nabbing one. Hopefully your Sentret shines soon!

For me it depends! Funny thing is I barely started shiny hunting around when Sun came out, so 2016ish? Before that it's always been random encounters. I don't know why I thought SOS was simple enough to get me to start hunting when literally horde hunting exists LOL. I guess since I always been lazy with continuously trying to get them to appear and trying to finish the dex in x/y and oras that I had little motivation to try but with all the success I got from some sos huntings and getting the shiny charm, I think that convinced me to horde hunt and complete the dex in xy and oras! Like seeing proof of my hardwork and motivation coming through if that makes sense? I also hunt in friend safaris too sometimes but, those you dont need the shiny charm for but yeah! ive successfully vaught shinies through sos, horde hunting, and the friend safaris! I say its worth it! Especially since before I would just use AR for shinies...and I can really see the difference of how i feel towards shinies I put effort to get and the ones I got easily

Also I have hatched 2 different shinies in sun and ultra sun! And also the virtual console games, gsc are good for breeding shinies too if you know how to do the process! :D

I've been hunting for shinys for soooooo long. I think I have only been successful one time, and I think it was in Alpha Sapphire, I used the fishing rod chain method to catch a shiny caravanha. I almost cried I was so excited lol. I've been trying to catch a shiny myself since sinnoh.

i'm horrible at shiny hunting. i can waste hours and hours, sometimes even days waiting and resetting, with no luck. i only get shinies when i'm messing around? by complete chance.

What method are you using? If you're resetting with full odds then it's completely normal to spend multiple days to weeks or even months if you're unlucky. It also depends on how much you can play each day of course.

Whenever I get bored of a particular hunt I just put them on hold and continue later. In the meantime I'll eithe shiny hunt a different Pok?mon or play a different game. For example, my shiny Treecko hatched at around 4000 eggs (while the odds being 1/512 with masuda method and shiny charm). I didn't hatch them all consecutively however. I think it took me about a year to finish that particular hunt but in the meantime I got like 30 other shinies.

In other words, you'll get it sooner or later. Just find a way to keep yourself at it and don't give up!
Shiny hunting isn't about being bad or good at the game, it's about persistence.

I personally use the dexnav method, and though it only increases your odds every 100 encounters in the dex (and if you have a chain of 50 or 100), with the shiny charm it's pretty easy to get a shiny between 300-400 encounters.

And yeah I can say that you'll definitely spend days, even weeks resetting/hatching/searching for a shiny. My longest hunt was for a shiny eevee, which took almost 950 encounters to get a female, and that probably took at least 2 weeks and countless hours. It prob would've taken longer had I not gotten the shiny charm at about 800 encounters.

I've only been shiny hunting very recently on Pokemon moon. I've never really looked or tried before. So I'm not really sure what the Dexnav method is XD

Though from seeing how long it takes, I think I got lucky with some of mine. Before getting the shiny charm, when SOS'ing eevee's I got like 2/3 shiny eevees. Wild encountered a shiny lillipup and Bonsly (was my first shiny~)

And I recently got the shiny charm and tried SOS'ing for a shiny Cutiefly and Growlithe which I got. I'm not too sure the amount of times I chained them because I wasn't counting but it was short.

But I am finding it hard to shiny hunt now. I kind give up if it takes too long, but I'm hoping to get back into shiny hunting once I get the right pokemon for the job. I usually have a Snorlax that knows yawn and hold back or a syther with false swipe with me at all times.

For the last of break, I'm going to start DexNav hunting for a shiny Ralts on Kmega Ruby. I really hope to get a male! If i happen to get one, I'll probably SOS chain for a Zorua in UM.

Ooh gl! I shiny hunted for a female Ralts and (granted I had the shiny charm) I got it in 204 encounters! It'd be cool to see a shiny Gallade ^o^

It's brutal. Right now I'm hunting for Solosis via the Masuda Method, and it's taking a while (Shiny Charm included as well). The thing is that I don't always get the chance to play every single day, so that already makes the process 5x as long. Luckily each egg goes by quick, but hoping for that one blue Solosis, only to have them all be the ordinary green is such a tease, it's so infuriating.

Tbh just the fact that you have some patience to even attempt the masuda method is respectable. I love shiny hunting but I could never be patient enough to try to hatch one out of an egg xD
