The start of the trailer made me think that it was going to be an open world spinoff, which I would have been ok with. Maybe the story mode will be more open... One can dream, at least.

I wonder if they will have at least one male idol this time around. That would change things up a bit.

i really hope we get some new idols (at least one boy PLEASE nintendo). all the new weapons and hairstyles look so cool! and i'm really glad this one's also taking the gender neutral route like in ACNH

I'm so hyped.
Too bad the game is gonna come out in 2022. If Breath of the Wild II, Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 are gonna come out in 2022 too, I think many people will overlook Splatoon, as the general response to the announcement wasn't really good outside the Splatoon fanbase.

For a series that has been pretty female centric I definitely agree about having a male idol. Octolings were always female until Octo Expansion, of course the idols have always been female, then there’s also the fact that the inkling boy was an afterthought in the first game.

At least it’s had the opposite problem that most classic games had with being pretty male centric, but I much prefer a balance. Though I do like that the body types are now classified as styles instead of boy or girl and how all hair and pants options are available to the different styles. Much more inclusive for the player characters.

This is great for all the non-binary folks for sure or even those that just like to mix and match what people typically consider to be male or female clothing and hairstyles.

Although, another theory I just thought up: It could be Marina/Marie and Callie/Pearl for the story mode. Don't know if anybody noticed the Squid Sisters wearing their crown and headphones in the Splatocalypse poster. >> Could mean nothing, but...

Yes they did though not until closer to release. This was the initial announcement trailer for Splatoon 2. No sign of the idols there.

The official introduction video (check it out below) came out on July 6th 2017. I can’t remember if they were teased earlier but might have been. While the game launched on July 21st 2017.

HYPE. Hopefully they don't lock nice wearables behind dlc/annoying missions this time though and that you can choose between octo/inkling from start. And that they don't do that one CoroCoro exclusive only in Japan, come on it's 2021 we got wireless Wi-fi lol.

And I hope they do better matchmaking at least in ranked/turf (might be hard if they bring back Salmon since not a lot of people play(ed) it).

And yeah since I have a pretty neat amiibo collection (Octoling set+Pearl and Marina, need to get callie/marie sometime lol) they better add back their things, too.

I desperately hope for a 3rd play mode. I never play splat zones, tower control, rainmaker or clamblitz. I regard them the same as turf war. And then you have Salmon run. Which i love! I was thinking about a 3rd play mode. Race! An obstacle course where the main objective is to reach the finish line first. It should be an elaborate obstacle course. I dunno... I think it could really add something...

Or maybe 4x4 where you race as teams and the first player who reaches the finish line, that team wins. The team should must cooperate to complete the course...

I'm not super hyped, but I'm looking foward to buying it on release now that I know what Splatoon is and actually playing it alongside everyone else. I hear stage rotations will still be a thing, which is making me nervous about other aspects of the game I'd hoped they'd fix.

Hoping we get a release date soon. This will likely consume most if not all of my gaming time at release so I need to plan out what I'm going to play and when leading up to it's release.

I'm hoping for a summer release date I think that would be good timing.

It's too bad it didn't get a solid summer release date since Splatoon is the type of game I feel like playing during that time. Though, even with a September release date I have not had the itch at all for a new Splatoon game. I was really hoping for a new type of aesthetic for the series, but it feels more of the same.

i love this, it's so exciting. i haven't played splatoon in so long but i was obsessed with it 2016-2018 ish and will definitely buy the new game, i might even pickup splatoon 2 again to get back into it a little
