The METAL thread! \m/

I like the early Cannibal Corpse albums with Chris Barnes, but I just haven't ever been interested enough to check out any of Six Feet Under's. I have heard one track called "Shadow Of The Reaper" and it was alright though.

Give the new SFU album a listen. its getting labeled the worst Death Metal album of 2020 lol I wouldnt say the worse but I get why people are hating on it. its mostly the vocals.

Alright, I'll give them a shot. I remember reading somewhere that Barnes's vocals have deteriorated due to heavy usage of marijuana and alcohol (something like that. Or maybe I'm confusing him with someone else), so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't sound as competent as he did back in the '90s.

yea. The producer should have applied some layering effects on Barnes vocals. I mean it does sound like he was just singing into a headset with nothing added.

I was a total metal-head for a lot of years and that's actually what got me into playing guitar starting at age 13. I learned (self taught) how to play Metallica songs starting with the Black album and working my way backwards and their music got better the further back I went (RIP Cliff Burton). I also played a lot of Pantera (RIP Dimebag), Rammstein, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, and way too many others to name. I never got into black metal though as it just wasn't my thing. To this day, one of my favorite riffs to play is the main riff to Jump In the Fire as it's a great warm up exercise and so much fun to play (I know Dave wrote that song tho). I still love the musical aspect, but the lyrics are often just not okay with me personally, so that's why I don't listen to it anymore among other private personal reasons. I do love the music genre though as it is one of my favorites, for sure! <3 /essay answer lol

^I find Incantation can be hit or miss but that was a banger!

Here's some Witchery for ya! They play a blend of black, thrash, heavy/classic and speed metal:

Love the production 👹

Can't remember if I've heard that Cemetary album in its entirety or not, but I do remember that they were Death Metal at that point before changing their style to Gothic Metal later on. Anyhow, I need to desperately revisit various of their early albums!

Anyone listen to any Annihilator? Jeff Waters is a beast! I've never understood though why so many latter-day Annihilator albums get panned...To everything from Carnival Diabolos-onward is just as good as their first 2-3 albums. King of the Kill and Refresh the Demon aren't too bad either.

Annihilator is one of those bands that I've been aware of for a long time (at least a decade and a half), but personally haven't ever been too interested in checking out completely (I have heard some minor samples from them before though). I'll try some of those tracks later, see if I like them (or not!).

Forgot that Incantation released new material! Was actually listening to the first two albums not too long ago. Their music can be somewhat hard to digest, but they're still one of my favourites as far as Death Metal goes. I'll eventually give that album a spin (still haven't listened to all of their previous ones, and I want to go in a somewhat chronological order).

Currently been giving G.I.S.M.'s Military Affairs Neurotic from 1987 various spins. Awesome record where they transitioned from Hardcore Punk to Heavy/Speed Metal. Only thing that drags it down a little is the extremely low sound quality. The last three tracks are some of the best here. Randy Uchida was a talented guitarist, a shame he passed away from cancer back in 2001.

One band I want to recommend is Starkill! They play a blend of melodic/symphonic death/black metal. Their sound varies a bit from album to album but it's all good imo! Here are a few songs:
