Three years on: have you had COVID-19?

As we approach the third anniversary of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it's hard not to remember that the release date coincided with the first COVID-19 lockdown. Where I live, we formally went into lockdown three days after the games release. This morning, I've been thinking about how many people in my life have had COVID-19. I can't think of anyone in my day-to-day life who hasn't had it at least once.

Have you had COVID-19?

I managed to dodge it for two years but eventually caught it in March 2022. It caused me to miss the final week of an intensive in-person 4-week bioinformatics course. I still passed but definitely not with the grades expected.

I had it once mid-last year, but I do know one or two families that have (thankfully) managed to avoid it, although they were extra avoidant due to being immunocompromised.
For me thankfully I was able to do pretty much everything I needed to for uni those weeks from home, so it was just mainly the inconvenience or having to reorganise uni and social plans.

I haven't had COVID yet.. But I did have a close call twice now. I feel like its only a matter of time at this point

I've never had it and I hope I never do. I'm vaccinated and double boosted, and I work from home, so it's very unlikely that I'll get it. It really is a terrible thing though, and I find it astonishing that so many people choose to believe that it doesn't exist or that there's some conspiracies around it. Someone at my last job was talking to someone and I happened to be eavesdropping, and they basically went on this long tangent about some long drawn-out conspiracy theory. I don't remember what exactly they said, but I knew at the time it was all complete hogwash. Glad I don't work there anymore!

It's also sad when you think about past vaccines and how they never had this much controversy.

I don't think so. I was JUST sick for about a month, pretty badly, but I tested negative 4 times. So that wasn't COVID. I know people close to me have gotten it and I haven't, however I don't go out much so I must just be isolated enough.

i have never had covid but my dad had it in october or november 2022. when we first found out he was sick, i was also feeling kind of sick too but i don’t know if i actually got it bc i went to sleep and i was better the next day. my family is all vaccinated and boosted but i’m still surprised that nobody else got it except for my dad.

I had it once in May 2022, but it was basically just a bad cold for me. Luckily it was the right at the end of the school year so I didn't miss anything important the week I was out.

I did a great job avoiding it but in August 2022, my partner ended up passing it to me. I had pretty minor symptoms all things considered but I also am young and triple vaxxed so I survived.

My dad and I haven’t gotten it. My part time job is really strict with Covid testing and prevention since it is a nursing home with very vulnerable patients. I’ve gotten the vaccine and all of the boosters just to be sure that I stay safe. One downside is having to wear the mask at all times especially in the summer as I work next to a dishwasher that can reach temperatures of up to 180 degrees F which is made worse on a hot humid summer day and there is no AC in the dish room.

I’ve been really lucky and had it twice just recovering from a virus which with having a really bad hacking cough thought it might be covid again but tested negative.

Nope I managed to not get it after nearly 3 years. I got my vaccines back in March 2021, April 2021, and finally gotten a Booster shot in November 2021. Since then I haven't tested positive for Covid-19. I was following all of the Mask Mandate rules and I was taking it very seriously.

Despite being double vaxxed and boosted, I came down with COVID in August of 2022. It started with a mild sore throat, and over ~12 hours progressed to shivering under a blanket during the heat of summer and some rather... unpleasant GI symptoms. Days 2-5 were the worst of it, where I had these intense body pains that I'd liken to being shot with paintballs, and hot flashes where I'd be burning up and dripping sweat for ~30 seconds, then would spontaneously resolve. After this came the burning congestion that lasted another 5ish days. Fun times, let me tell you!

It could have been a lot worse and I'm thankful it wasn't, but it was still one of the most bizarre, uncomfortable maladies I've ever dealt with.

I had it pretty bad in August of 2022, and definitely have been exposed at least two other times. I considered my body aches to be on par with my pain after fetal surgery, if that gives any idea how awful it was. The other times I would’ve been exposed in this case meaning, people in my immediate household were positive and at the time I tested each time, I was negative. My son actually tested positive again for the second time only last week. Thankfully, his case this time around was only a dry cough and mild irritability, as opposed to last time being given a 3 day course of Remdesivir. I personally feel that he would’ve died from Covid without that treatment. He was in pretty bad shape.

My family and I have always kept up-to-date on our vaccines and boosters, but we did all catch it at least once last year. ;; My dad's a school teacher, so there was only so much we could do to limit our exposure. Thankfully, our cases were pretty mild.

I also suspect, but can't confirm, that a very nasty cold we had earlier in that year might've also been covid. It was weird in that it started out mild and seemed to get better for a couple days, then suddenly turned super miserable. I remember my dad tested negative early on though and I don't think he re-tested later, so I can't say for sure though.

I don't think I did. A cold I had might've been but probably not. Everybody involved tested negative (with the worse at home tests) except one person but his dad definitely had covid so he could have gotten covid from him

I have successfully managed to avoid it so far. I'm fully vaccinated and boosted. I'm not a very social person in general, so I don't think I get a lot of exposure. I did isolate as much as possible and wear my mask in public for at least 2 years. Even now, I'm still cautious and will wear my mask if I'm uncomfortable with my surroundings.

My mom got Covid last year from my aunt. My aunt's entire household came down it. They were all miserable. I had to go take care of my mom a couple of times since she lives alone and couldn't even get out of bed when it was at its worst. I wore my mask while I was there and so did she. I distanced myself as much as possible. I never felt any symptoms and tested negative each time.

I did pick up a really bad cold from my aunt this past Christmas. We all got it. My husband, my mom, my aunt, uncle, and cousin. The symptoms were just congestion and a terrible cough that lasted for weeks. I was worried it might be Covid but tested negative again.

So to the best of my knowledge, I've been very lucky and never had it. I hope it stays that way.

I don't think so, I had a few cold/allergy busts around but I recovered rather quickly and for most of those times I didn't get too bad and in later times you don't have to test unless you work with some kind of healthcare, eg.at a hospital or at elder people's home etc. and I don't, so...

I got it twice last year but I was vaccinated so it wasn't so bad. It was kinda like having the flu in a sense that I was hot & sweaty. Afterwards though my asthma flaired up for a couple months but now I'm back on track. I feel lucky to have bounced back within a year cause I know others have suffered worse long term effects.

I have, twice, though thankfully both times weren’t bad enough that I needed to be hospitalized. It sucked both times though, kind of like the flu but amp the symptoms up by 5 times. The curse of living in an antivax household I guess
