I've heard a lot of reviews say the first few days are slower than we are used to, is anyone planning on setting their switch back a week or so now, so that on day 1 you can get as much out of the day as possible, then save, turn off, go forward a date in aeroplane mode, rinse and repeat until you're back at the normal date and can play as normal? I doubt there will be any repercussions for just going forward a day.

No. The point of Animal Crossing is to play it in real time. Time Traveling shows lack and patience, and only cheats yourself.

It's a little early for me right now, what does airplane mode have to do with anything?

The assumption is that because airplane mode means you’re not online, the switch’s internal clock can’t synchronize with real time (and therefore not detect if you adjust the time forward or backward)

Oh. It's a little over the top. If the game has in game methods of changing the clock like all other AC games, that's how they detect it

If your switch is set to manual time settings, and you change time on the Switch and not in the game, the game won't detect changes as I doubt the game is doing a precocious internet time check to ensure you didn't cheat.

That might be true. I personally don’t really know or care how it works, but that’s what people mean when they’re talking about using airplane mode to tt without consequences.

Time traveling and how it works was covered on a youtube vid. I feel like it was GameXplain but I can't remember? I'll look for it again. You just turn off automatic time detection on your switch and manually set it, restart AC and the date/time will be changed. Easy peezy if TTing is your thing.

As for how I'll end up playing, I'll try not to TT for the first while but knowing me, I doubt I'll stick to that. I have no patience and I don't care, lol. Once summer comes around I'll be too busy to put AC into my daily routine so I always end up playing it in bursts where I try to do as much as possible. That's just how I personally enjoy the game.

EDIT: Here's the video if anyone's curious! https://youtu.be/AGE8DZm7LwA

i won’t be time travelling. even if i find progression a bit slow for the first few days, i’ll just spend that time getting to know my island and utilizing the basics that i’ve missed so much

No, I won't be time travelling at all - unless it's to go back to a day I have missed in real time and I think I will lose something valuable from skipping the day. Animal Crossing games actually frustrate me a little because they're in real time. I work full-time in a laboratory and volunteer with two non-profit organisations so I don't have the time or energy to play daily never mind get bored of the pace!

I am torn. From the reviews they say it is REALLY slow at the beginning...I also am thinking I will get frustrated with the flimsy tools so I might TT back a week and do it that way. Haven't really decided yet though.

I mean, it can't be that hard to make more, or to just have a stockpile. Though I'm not sure what tools and time-travel have in common.

I don't think anything is really "slow". There is so much to do in the game that you won't be standing around waiting for things to happen.

That's a little dramatic..... this is a highly personal game. It doesn't show lack of patience or that you're a cheater.... it could just show excitement. Everyone plays differently and that's okay. If time traveling wasn't the point of the game they wouldn't have included it since the original.....

I plan to do this! Maybe 2 or 3 days back. I just want to be able to play the whole day on the 20th being quarantined and what not. Idk why its basically a crime to other people if others time travel..... its a personal game not sure why people care. Do what feels right!

I dislike time travelling, as it kind of ruins the whole community aspect of everything - it means that you aren't experiencing the same events and such as other people around you. I'd rather just play it as it goes especially as we will be receiving updates for events e.g. easter so that we all get to play at the same time.

Well I don't know what your definition for "patience" is, but I'll let you keep it.

I never said "you're a cheater", I said it "cheats yourself", there is a difference in the meaning between these two phrases.

Tossing childish insults is uncalled for. The OP asked if "We were going to TT", I said "No" and stated why I personally won't be.

I am done talking with you. I'll just refer you to what the mods say:

Just a polite reminder for everyone to be courteous of other users opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and are welcome to express it (provided that they do so in a civil manner).

One review I saw mentioned something about small penalties for time traveling. Does anyone know more about what those are? In prior games, so long as what you did wasn’t obvious (e.g., you moved ahead to a new date, or you went back to play a holiday you missed when your last play date was before the holiday), the game didn’t seem to be able to tell, and there were no penalties. Has that changed?

I still don’t plan to TT when I get the game, but I am fond of going back to play holidays if I can’t play them live, and I like to adjust the clock by a few hours to better fit my schedule.

I only really want to do it for the first week, I dont really find the fun in doing it throughout the game, I just wanna get gooooooing properly

LOL.... alright....you realize you called people who time travel "lack patience" and that we cheat ourselves which I stated was uncalled for. You think when you say anything it's not insulting at all? Guess you are just so much more superior than everyone else. If you don't agree you don't have to put others down. You should reread what you just posted and apply it to your own mindset. You couldn't even handle what you dish out. I didn't throw out insults like you did but be offended if that's what you want to be.
