I have the whole collection of amiibo cards, but I’m hesitant to use them to get even one of my favorite characters. I don’t even have 1 of my top 10 favorites in my town. I remember using my collection to scan in my favorites in my New Leaf town years ago and being totally uninterested afterwards. Like the game had no meaning whatsoever afterwards.

So should I scan in my top favorite villager in or not (just this one) ?

If you think it'll ruin your fun, then no. But it might be fine if you only have 1 favorite and let villagers randomly be on your island. Maybe having a full set of dreamies is what made it less fun for you before.

I agree with the above. I think scanning in one card now should be absolutely fine. It sounds like you’re a bit disappointed not seeing a familiar face, so if anything it will probably improve your experience.

(Also something to consider: the fact that you now need to spend a few days getting to know and convince them first might make it feel like a special experience with your favorite in its own right. You’ll have earned them more than with the previous amiibo usage)

Go for it.

I'm going to scan all of mine when I start playing, and get to the point where I can. :)

If you use an amiibo card, you need to do it 3 days and everyday you have to craft something for them. It'll be something new though, so you'll also get a recipe alongside it.

I don't see a reason to not use your cards. The villager is just normally in the camp and they have the same move in progress as everyone else. I think with New Horizons there's more to care about than dreamies.

Rather than moving them all in ASAP, you could scan them in slower. Once a week? Once a month? Set a boundary for yourself like that. I didn't have any of my favorites either and the joy I felt at having met vesta on one of the mystery islands suddenly brought so much more happiness to my island. "I have a friend who's going to be here with me now! yay!" So I'd at least recommend bringing in at least a couple. Or maybe you could do your top 5 only, and let the other 5 villagers continue to cycle through so you can continue to meet other ones? Those are just some ideas for you!

Thanks all for sharing your thoughts. I’m still conflicted. I scanned in Pate’s amiibo today and filled her demand. I still feel conflicted though. Keep sharing your thoughts. It will help me decide.

Of course it is more exciting to get your favorite Villagers at random, but you should never feel guilty at making your Dream Island a Reality by using Cards to let them Move in faster. For me I feel like getting new villagers that I could possibly like is something very refreshing. But that’s probably because I don’t have any Amiibo Cards. Haha!

If it's ruined your enjoyment of the game before, that's not a risk I would suggest taking. One card might be okay, if you were still building relationships with other villagers, but definitely not more than one. That's just my take, though! For me, much of the villager experience isn't just how they look, but the feeling that they have some agency in terms of moving in or out of my town. Finding a beloved villager moving in at random or wandering an island is super exciting in a way that having them "on demand" is not.

how i play each new AC game is i let wolfgang come into my new town (my all time favorite) and then i try out a lot of new villagers for the others! i do this by scanning in new ones im interested in and i kinda change it up every now and then to keep things interesting. buying all of my villagers in the forum in NL definitely took a little bit of the fun out and i found changing it up often helped, but kept me happy with the faces i saw every day. and wolfgang is my OG.

oh! i thought id also mention the villagers are a bit more engaging and personalizable (at least in this game, to me) beyond just owning them, because after having them for a few days you can give them gifts daily, including clothes they'll switch around in the day and furniture they'll put in their homes. i've customized a lot of my favorite villagers wardrobes and it has added a lot of engagement and fun in the villagers for me beyond the fun of just getting them. id say at least get your favorite villager and just spoil them with gifts like i do haha. thats just my opinion on it based on my experience

I've been playing Animal Crossing since Wild World, and never took an active interest in the lives of my neighbors. That will change with this iteration, as I have 10 Amiibo cards for villagers I'll actually care about. I started with Stitches 3 days ago, and will move to Molly tomorrow. Then it'll be Jeremiah, Merengue, Rizzo, Cyrano, Tutu, Tammi, Rodney, and finally Mott.

The thrill of the chase doesn't exist for me with regard to villagers, so moving in who I want makes far more sense.

i would - i get feeling dissatisfied if you were to scan all of them in, so maybe just scan 1-2? that way, you’d still have villagers left to try and obtain naturally

My goal in WW and CF was getting my dream team. Then in NL I decided to change it up and add a little more challenge. While on the quest for my dream team, no animal was allowed to move out until I had their pic. Then they could go. I had a museum room dedicated to the pictorial history of Portwenn’s residents. I plan to do the same with this game, assuming we get confirmation that they’ll give pics on high friendship. I’m gonna use the cards to get two of my dream team (Camofrog is moving from the camp to his house tomorrow) but the rest I’ll either rotate out naturally or do a random card of a cool non-favorite.

So... I wouldn’t go scanning them all in.

I feel like there's so much more required of us in this game than previous titles with the crafting, terraforming, etc. Like, for me, in NH my goals were to get my fave villagers and catalog every item but this game I have to worry about so much more. It sounds like you would have more fun grinding for Nook miles and exploring islands, trying to find your favorite villagers! That could take months maybe even years. In the meantime, you can scan in one dreamie, and if after a month or two you feel like you want another, you can scan again. It'll sparse them out and keep you playing for longer. That's just my opinion. I think you know better than anyone what would keep you interested and playing.

Oh man ! Fey and Mermaidself, you both are so right ! I went ahead yesterday and scanned Pate's amiibo. She was on my campground, I visited her and she gave me a DIY recipe to craft for her. A pretty easy to do recipe. I invited her again today, but this TIME ! She gave me a near impossible recipe to craft. I needed 9 flowers (from 3 types), neither I had ever seen. So I had to ask for help on the Nookipedia Discord to other members. They were forthright about helping me out gathering those 9 flowers, but I had to fly out to two different players island to do so. It took me about an hour or so just to craft the DIY recipe she gave me !

I'm affraid what she might ask tomorrow. But now I don't feel bad or conflicted about scanning in Pate's amiibo. I will have worked my ass off for her !

For me, having some of my favorites really makes my island feel homey. But I also wanted to make sure that I gave myself the chance to meet new favorites through New Horizons. So I'm limiting myself to having 5 villagers I developed a relationship with in New Leaf and keeping 5 spots for new villagers/villagers I haven't had before.
