Valentine's Party
First Submission: Sweets

💘Heart-Shaped Coconut Macaroons with White Chocolate & Sprinkles💘
VP_Sweets_8.jpg

I made these heart-shaped coconut macaroons for the party!!
Sorry in advance to all you coconut haters

VP_Sweets_1.jpg

Ingredients for the coconut macaroons! I used this recipe to make them

VP_Sweets_2.jpg

VP_Sweets_3.jpg

I forgot to show the process of mixing up the egg whites and the coconut flakes + condensed milk + vanilla extract but here is the raw mixture in 3 different shades!

VP_Sweets_4.jpg

I spooned the mixture into a heart shaped cookie cutter and then carefully lifted each time.. very tedious

VP_Sweets_6.jpg

baked!!! i tried getting rid of some of the really crispy edges after this

VP_Sweets_7.jpg

dipping and drizzling the macaroons with melted white chocolate

Submitting the bottom screen for 2d crafts ! :) I know top screen isn’t my own assets, so it's just for presentation 💌

Hi! I'm afraid I can't accept this as your 2D craft. Please use either physical paper or a digital software you can export from (eg Procreate on iPad, Photoshop on PC) to design your 2D craft.

Sorry about that! I was able to export it

3DS is not a suitable medium for creating your entry. I'm sorry but this doesn't pass our effort requirements rule. This is an arts & crafts event so we have a certain standard we expect in our entries. Please review the other submissions users have submitted so far to understand our expectations.

Why is the 3DS not a suitable medium for creating entries?

Games like "Color3D" , "Art Academy" and "Flipnote Hatena" exist and I believe people can create pretty cool art with it and in my opinion using the 3DS to make art can be considered to be on the same par as making a drawing in MS Paint.
Not saying MS Paint or the 3DS is low level- but rather can be considered "entry"- cause you can also make really cool stuff with it if you know how to. The 3DS is just another way to make art.

Hey. I can absolutely make something else if you want me to, but I find this a bit hurtful and kinda like embarrassing to be told this publicly?

It actually took “effort” and a long time to make because of the imprecise nature of the 3DS touch screen. I shaded in the entire screen red with a pen tool that doesn’t adjust for width, used the eraser tool that is wider than the rest of the pen tools as a “white pen,” and used the thinner red pen to correct for places where the eraser was imprecise. I thought it could at least be appreciated that my lettering looks very nice on the medium I used, and I used the 3DS to evoke nostalgia on an Animal Crossing forum whose livelihood kinda once revolved around the 3DS.

I have the same concerns. As someone who used Colors! 3D for years as my only way to make digital art in my earlier years, and even made commissions starting on TBT specifically for my Colors art, I find it kind of ridiculous to say that a 3DS doesn't qualify as a proper medium/tool to use for events. Many of the friends I grew up with used their 3DS for creating art via Colors and other applications.

And imo, sleepey's entry has a reasonable amount of effort, especially with how they described their process, as I've also experienced similar things with drawing on a 3DS. I know how tedious it is to draw on a 3DS because of how limiting the tools can be sometimes, and I'd argue that it takes more effort than drawing with a pencil and paper.

i wasn't going to say anything at first in case questioning staff decisions was considered inappropriate/unappreciated, but i would like to echo that i personally thought sleepey's entry seemed like effort enough because 3DS screens are difficult/finnicky to draw on, especially smooth lettering like that and, like mrbox, i don't see how it's any different from ms paint really.

I appreciate everyone who said something. I hope everyone had as much fun making their submission as I did making mine!! :lemon:

💌💌💌 I have been doing lettering for over 8 years, and have been practicing it in the 3DS notes application since starting New Leaf again and making lists for my dailies. It means a lot that you could see the attention to detail

This entry was what I could do to showcase my hobby, because I can't currently afford to replace the drawing tablet and pens/stationary I left behind from when I fled Florida a few months prior to the presidential election.

i thought your entry was really cute when i first saw it !! so i was really surprised when it got refused, especially for the medium, because i don't see how it's any different from, say, drawing an entry on your phone with your finger. hard to say if the staff will reconsider, which is why i hesitated to say anything immediately, but for what it's worth, it certainly didn't look low effort to me!

@Chris, does the 2D craft have to fit a 'decoration for the Valentine's Day Party' theme? Or could I just draw the TBT Valentine's Day Party itself with characters attending it?

Sorry to bother, but I see that everyone is drawing cards, and I wanted to make sure.

As someone who used to make custom clothes on ACNL, making something look that adorable and precise on the 3DS absolutely takes a lot of effort!

This was really inconsiderate to post publicly imo and I hope you know your pixel art is so cute sleepey!

I finished my first project.

Submission # 1
Sweets
IMG_2864.jpeg

This dish I made is the Chocolate Heart Candy Sandwiches! All sandwiches are heart-shaped, with buns made of pure chocolate, creamy pink vanilla filling in between, and creamy frosting on top with sprinkles. Oh, and to trademark my recipe, I put apple-shaped candies on top.

Oh, and since I changed my username, I had to make a new title card for my new username. It’s a fancy one this time.

Everyone's already echoed what I also wanted to say, anywhere you can paint/draw is a suitable art medium! Sleepey's entry didn't seem haphazardly made, I can tell there was effort and I can vouch it takes effort to draw on these kinda of devices!!

I remember drawing a post in splatoon 3 before, didn't have a stylus so I just used my finger to draw on the Switch lol. Definitely took me an hour, probably almost 2 hours, since it was so difficult trying to get the pose right, coupled with only a single layer, very very limited pen & eraser sizes, and my big finger 😭 Even if it looks simple it's no easy feat!

(not an entry lol)

Hoping there's a consideration for these kinds of things :] I don't want anyone to feel bad for not having other drawing materials on hand, or being more comfortable with one drawing medium over another!
