The popularity list is based on how popular are villagers on these forums.Alexi just reports in the list what we can see in the forum.
A lot of people use the list and Alexi works hard to keep it up to date .

There were literally like 5 marshal's being sold for today.
The thing that is giving me a severe headache right now is supply and demand
Supply is incredibly, more than ever higher which decreases demand.
I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but I will see how the rest of the weekend (really just tmrw) plays out.

There has been what, 5 different sellers/auctions for marshal in the last couple of days alone?
Of course when I wanted him a couple of weeks back nobody was selling typically so whenever I came to buy him somebody had always beat me to it.
The majority of the marshals have got buyers/bids though. There's one that is currently at a bid of 30mil too
That squirrel is really getting around lately..

I did notice this week that while Rosie hasn't done too well, Tangy has been snatched up very fast.
It's funny how it seems to switch from one week to the next

yeah :c although, I had Rosie and someone offered 125 tbt & adopted her within 10 mins. but I have seen a few cycle threads keep not only her but other tier 1's in boxes for an entire day and then I assume they either get voided (likely) or someone adopted them through PM.
Quite a few cycle threads get bumped from lurkers even though the cycler hasn't updated/been online/cycled in days though lol. that is a pet peeve of mine ;-; so the title can be misleading - which is why I go through everryyy post in every page to see.
Timing is another thing -
- if a cyclers timezone is off (example - anyone cycling now would not be having a lot of buyers, rather than in 5-6ish hours would be a lot better)
- how long the villager is left in boxes before voiding.

That's very true. One cycling town in particular I have used several times and the cycler has pm'd me before advertising, so those villagers can be missed.
One villager I would love to see start doing well is Filbert....and I do hope Wolfgang doesn't drop a tier

Can I ask what you do in those cases, with possibly a quite popular villager, who just hasn't come up for sale very often?

Depending on the villager and what ranking they're in - that situation most likely wouldn't alter anything big like a tier change. It's very variable within the tiers and each spot a villager is in.
With Whitney I'll just say now she's probably going to drop a few spots. When I first started this list I kept Marshal on his throne for far too long, when I hadn't really seen him around that much. That was a mistake, mainly because I had just started getting the hang of updates and such but recently I've taken into account these things. Like, Marina Beau and Lolly I've seen a lot of and thus warrants for a raise. However, just because there hasn't been much of selling Whitney around doesn't mean she should drop tremendously, rather just a couple spots. So, expect to see a new #1 queen or king almost every week -- unless a villager can keep a trend like that going for so long.

Ah, that makes sense I just wasn't sure how that would work in that case, thank you for explaining that.
It will be brilliant to see a regular change to the top spots! Keeps things fresh marshal was on top for ages, it will be nice to see other villagers taking the throne.

To be honest I think it's more likely due to how many marshals there have been for sale just over the last 2 days. It's literally been one after another

These are just selling threads alone in the past week (minus the 1 cycle thread). 2 are from the 11th - the rest are from yesterday & today.
As for the cycling threads, off the top of my head: mayor-brooke, Makoto, p e p p e r, & cherrii all had marshal available. soo, it just goes back to supply & demand - it's really just some sellers have to be patient with selling if theres 5 other marshals across the VTP that day lol. i can't update a tier 1 solely based off the weekend, as earlier in the week there will still quite a few lurkers/buyers for him.
