i’m not too sure what counts as a classic but my favourite movies are the titanic, clueless, mean girls, the lilo & stitch movies, the little mermaid movies, frozen, coraline, brain on fire and easy a. :’)
Not sure if everything I'm listing is counted as a classic film but they're all mostly over 20 years old now so I'm presuming they are:
Top Films: Forrest Gump (1994) and Spirited Away (first released in 2001 in Japan) - these are my favourite films of all time, I really like the storylines in both and how well they've been made for the era they were made in, never get bored of watching these
Musicals: Grease (1978), Wizard of Oz (1939), Sound of Music (1965) and Mary Poppins (1964)
Animated: There are lots of animated films I love (including a lot of the modern ones) but I'll just list my favourites from the older ones - The Little Mermaid (1989), The Great Mouse Detective (1986), A Goofy Movie (1995), Toy Story (1995), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Peter Pan (1953) and A Bug's Life (1998)
Other Films: Titanic (1997), Star Wars (original trilogy films released in 1977, 1980 and 1983 - not really a fan of any of the laters films but I really like the originals), The Sixth Sense (1999 - not quite the same now I've seen the twist but the first time I saw it I hadn't been expecting it), Seven (1995), The Godfather (1972) and The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
I loooove 80s-90s movies hahaha. I love all the Back to the Future movies, Bill and Ted, the Princess Bride, the entire Meet The Parents trilogy (or ANYTHING with Ben Stiller in it, he's my favorite comedy actor). I also love older movies like Breakfast at Tiffany's or Anchors Away. Old Soviet films are great, and help a lot since I am learning Russian. My favorites of those are "Operatisiya Y and other adventures of Shurik" and "The Man with a Movie Camera" (which is a silent film from the 20s). My favorite sorta genre for classics though is 80s-90s. I'm really into the aesthetic right now in general lol.
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Suspiria (1977)... two very different movies but probably my favourites of all time! I like a lot of movies named in this thread. Here's some others grouped by genre-ish:
Zatoichi movies (60s-80s), Yojimbo (1961), and a few other samurai oldies.
Tampopo (1985)
Chungking Express (1994), In the Mood for Love (2000)
Metropolis (1927), Gattaca (1997), Bladerunner (1987), 12 Monkeys (1995)
Re-Animator (1987), The Evil Dead (1981), Hellraiser (1987), Dead-Alive (1992), Hausu (1977)
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Jackie Brown (1997)
My Sassy Girl (2001), My Wife is a Gangster (2001), Oldboy (2003)
Perfect Blue (1997), Akira (1988), Princess Mononoke (1997), Aladdin (1992)
Not a huge movie fan but The Truman Show is one of my favorite "older" movies. I also liked 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was so wild for my little high school brain that I am processing it to this day.
terminator 1 - 2, all the rambo movies, robocop, escape from new york, pretty in pink, breakfast club, dark crystal, most of the james bond movies, an affair to remember, gilda, move over darling, etc etc ... i really love 80s movies especially!!
The Blues Brothers is my favorite classic movie. I've watched it quite a few times and it's fantastic! There may be others but like many have said, I'm not completely sure when a movie becomes classic, I just know The Blues Brothers is definitely classic at this point.
These are probably more modern classics, but some of my favorite movies are Young Frankenstein, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Halloween, and Beetlejuice.
