What are your rules on playing ACNH? Here’s mine

1. Seek out Rooney. It won't be complete without him. :,*
2. Wait at least a year to do any time traveling
3. Have Fun

Here are my rules:

✧Do not use time travel
✧Do not reset for the perfect fruit, villagers or island layout.
✧Do not hack or receive anything hacked from another town.
✧Do not use amiibo cards to change your villagers unless you genuinely hate their guts and it seriously impacts your gameplay
✧Take lots of breaks!
✧Manage your time effectively and make sure that real life activities e.g. assignments, chores are prioritised.
✧Only hoard things you genuinely love and are going to use! I had a habit in NL of hoarding pretty much everything "just in case", my storage was full of random furniture and clothes. While NH makes it easier to manage having lots of stuff, I don't want to fret too much about not owning everything.
✧Have fun and don't try TOO hard!
✧Be more helpful to other people if they need villagers, objects etc.

-no amiibo cards
-no time traveling
-no trading for the first few months, and limited trading after that
-limit of ten resets for initial start
-have fun

-no time travel unless i miss an event
-breed my own hybrids
-mostly buy items from my own shops
-take my time and enjoy

So far, my only rule has been to avoid spoilers. When I get the game, I plan to explore on my own before diving into online communities (looking up stuff, trading items/villagers, etc). I did this with New Leaf and liked it.

After the game is released Do Not look up any guides or gameplay videos until I have played for at least a month (I want things to come by surprise)
Sell lots of my fruit
Take one picture of each villager that has been in my town regardless if I like them or not.
Try to minimize to amount of photos I save to my Nintendo switch (maybe 5-8 per year)

A thing you could do is create a private Twitter and connect it, to afterwards upload pictures to save space on the Switch. It is something I do.

My rules will be:
-If available: No date changing to progress through several days quickly. Something I did in NL and regret now. (Time adjustments are okay though)
-Make use of Flowers and such. In NL i wasnt too interested as I would accidentally ruin my patches often.
-Avoid Guides and Spoiler videos. I feel bad for some of my favourite YouTubers missing out on views, but I want to be surprised by what Nintendo didn't reveal yet.
-Screenshots/videos: I want to hard save my experiences, the changes, everything.
-Play with girlfriend: Not much of a rule, but a goal to play quite a bit online, if the internet connections and Nintendo Online work along properly. Wonder how things will go regarding crashes and reconnects (Thank Nook for Autosave.)
-Get creative: My NL town was bland. My designs were mostly QR ones. I am not good at design creating, but i am to make more of it this time around.
-No Amiibo cards: I will let anyone move in that wants, and only afterwards decide if I want to keep them. Plus I don't want to buy more cards.

No time travel or cheats of any kind. Hopefully I can stick to this without caving. I'm also going to try and discover everything myself and avoid looking stuff up. I want to avoid all spoilers at least for the first month.

No resets except for maybe avoiding getting oranges or pears. Don't really care about anything else!

Also i've been thinking about landscaping when it becomes available - i don't wait to landscape my whole island and only use it minimally, I don't like the idea of being THAT Godlike on my island lol

but it could be terrifically fun and i end up turning it into a massive lake with a 1 square island inside hahaha

I'm going to avoid timetravelling and spoilers.
I will reset a bit if needed at the start for fruit and to make sure my starting villagers aren't ones I dislike, but that shouldn't take too long.

Try new things! Usually in AC I get caught up in fishing, bugs, fossils, etc but this time, I also want to try out some gardening, house designing (better than what I have done in past AC games...), maybe in the long run making the actual town look nice (just built PWPs in New Leaf, but didn't plan trees, flowers, patterns, paths, etc). Also applies to villagers, let them leave unless I love them. Take new ones in constantly for some fresh faces.

More playing with others. Hopefully this will be easier as I do know some people at my college that will also be playing, but also try more online play too.

Don't play so much as to lower my grades. Academics will come first at all times

EDIT: also the no hoarding rule, I do have a habit of this in AC games (my CF town was a MESS of things everywhere on the ground)

- No time travel unless I miss an important event
- No trading, I'll find everything by myself
- I will reset until I get a native fruit and starting villagers I like

I've been good at these in NL too, I really like enjoying the game in real time, and not fast-forwarding through days I have to wait for something. Also I never got into trading, I like finding everything by myself in the game :)

No rules, really. Just have fun, as others have posted.

The only time I'd really utilize time travel is if I miss something significant or a large portion of the day from work.

abhelcenteno :

- [ ] Do not reset to obtain desired island/villagers => I don't care about the island or villagers, but I'll reset if I get pears or oranges as native fruit
- [ ] Do not time travel => I agree
- [ ] Do not receive hacked tools/items => I agree
- [ ] Keep expenses to minimum in order to save money for turnips on Sunday => I do buy turnips sometimes but it's not my priority
- [ ] Minimize watching AC videos on YouTube, esp time travellers (to avoid spoilers) => The same here

I'll add some rules

- I don't want to choose my villagers or to have a dreamlist. I may want 1 or 2 of my favorite but I live to discover new villagers I never had in my previous towns.
- Have fun !

A self imposed rule this time is that I can only keep my three favorite villagers (Tia, Marshal and Punchy). I want to meet a lot of villagers, but I also really wanted to have these three from early on.

Also, no time traveling. I'll admit I did it a lot in New Leaf and in the end it definitely shortened the lifespan of the game and took out much of the enthusiasm.

My main rule is not to time travel, until after everything has been unlocked. Another rule I think I'll set for myself is, once I open a 'shop' here on TBT, to not accept crazy high payments of IGB from people. Maybe this won't be so much of an issue if duping isn't really a thing as it was with New Leaf, but while having people offer like... 100k bells or more for a hybrid seemed cool at the time, this time around I don't want to end up with so many bells that I don't have any need to 'earn' them anymore like I did with New Leaf.

nothing except no hacked items and to keep time traveling to a minimum (though not completely against the rules). i just wanna have fun playing
