What do you collect?

Goodness, this list would be long if I listed all the things I enjoy collecting, but I'll put most of the ones that come to mind:

- Old books (the older the better!) and books in general
- Seashells (I have one that is almost big enough to wear as a helmet that happens to be called a "Bull mouth helmet," it's so cool!)
- Animal skulls (replicas or humanely sourced, usually bought from someone I know on Etsy)
- Cool found objects from nature & fossils
- Taxidermy (I don't have much) and jarred specimens (again, only cruelty free stuff)
- Oddities (especially from the Victorian era backwards)
- Minerals and geodes (small ones, nothing crazy)
- Cute Japanese things (like sanrio, ac merch, you name it)
- Stamps (yes, really! cliche I know, lol)
- Foreign money
- Squished pennies (the kind you can get at tourist places where you put in a penny and it stamps it with something like where you are, etc.)
- Artwork by others (prints, drawings/art for me, etc)
- Pinned insects (I only have one so far lol...)

I used to collect key-chains as a kid and would get one from whatever place I would visit, lol.
I also use my skull collection as references for biology, zoology, and artwork stuffs.

A few things to add here.

Funk Pops. I've actually got a fair collection going. Mostly Disney, but a few others. My favorite has to be my custom Anne and Gilbert from 1985 Anne of Green Gables.

Comics. Mostly from Archie Comics (a lot of the side ones, and the recent horror imprints), but some others that I liked the story.

I just bought my first Pullip dolls, so I expect clothes to be a new hobby. One will remain in her stock outfit (Alice du Jardin Mint version), but the other (the du Jardin Pink version) is coming with only her wig. That's been loosened, so it's removable, and I will make her my dress-up doll. I'd really love to get the Cinnamoroll doll and the Sailor Venus, but I'll wait a bit.

Some time ago I collected Magic: The Gathering cards illustrated by Rebecca Guay. I also have a little collection of TLOZ items.

Lastly, I was making a little collection of Japanese literature but the pandemic got in the way, now I just buy essentials to keep me alive 😅

Ahh my collecting days are over. But I used to collect a lot of printed matter ephemera like zines and post cards. I also collected art prints, mostly hand made prints like silkscreen and etchings. When I was still a high school student I collected re-ment miniatures. Most of my collections are at my old room mate's house because I left them with her when I moved back home 😅 I definitely don't have the space or money anymore to buy prints like I used to. Like litilravnur said above, I only buy essential things (and games... always games)

I used to collect ramune bottles. Back when I was in middle school that stuff was much more on the fringe of culture, so when I found out my local asian supermarket had like 20+ flavors I vowed to try all of them! And they had such cute packaging that I wound up washing and displaying them haha! Honestly they all just tasted very artificial and chemically without much differentiation.

Crystals! Always have since I was a kid, and I stopped for a while but dived right back in two years ago. Honestly my whole family on my mom's side has always had a thing for crystals. I didn't really think anything of it until the other day when my mom, my partner, and I were all chatting and it got brought up. I collect crystals, my mom collects crystals, my grandma collected crystals, her mom did..... it never really registered that it's not "normal" to go to someone's house and there's just a "rock table." It's a shame none of them found out about wholesale rock shows, because I just did last week and I could have been saving.... so much money.

Pokemon cards. I'm not as into it as I used to be, but I collect them for the art and trying to "complete" the dex as opposed to specific card lines. I have a space for each pokemon and individual forms (even if it's empty, I have the spot labeled), and when I have multiple of the same Pokemon I'll just select my favorite as the one to display in the front. Also have sections for item-ish cards, jumbo cards, and special ones like gym leader/evil team cards and delta species. I have full arts/megas/GX/shinies in their own little tiny card books I got from those special card sets. Also have some of the pokemon card tins dedicated to coins and other small related collectables.

Stuffed animals too. They're so hard to get rid of because I already struggle with hyperempathy with inanimate objects, much less ones with little faces!!! And then like everyone I love has probably gotten me one at some point. AND whenever I have an interest that has good looking plushes I probably bought them. I've loved Pokemon for most of my life, and there's a chain of anime shops in a couple of local malls, that sell amongst other things bootleg Pokemon stuffed animals, even of ones that The Pokemon Company never bothers releasing. They even have shinies! So naturally when I was in high school and had nothing else to spend my free money on.... a lot of it went to cool stuffed animals. That I'm too mushy to get rid of for space OTL

Those are the big ones. I'm a collector at heart, and have gone through many a collection (barbies, monster high dolls, makeup, amiibo and amiibo cards, cute erasers, tarot decks at this point, stickers and stationery, hell candy wrappers once upon a time....) but these are the most interesting to tired me.
I have so many of stuffed animals and plushies. Hard to get rid of any xD I have a lot from games and just animals in general

Games count as essential stuff! 😌

Some stuff I've collected in the past were books and tsum tsums, both the plush and vinyl ones. I've donated a lot of my books and kept some of the manga that I plan to sell later. But they are sitting in storage at my parents' house for now. The tsums I collected were mostly from the movies and characters I liked but I have spluraged and gotten some because they were cheap. I'll give some away in the future but they are all sitting on my bookshelf right now.

Now I collect stationary. I went through a temp bullet journal phase and I might get back into it to organize my life a little better. Also board games, lots and lots of board. I can play all of them on Tabletop Simulator but I like having the physical pieces and the set up. One day I'll be able to wipe the dust off of them.

I used to collect a lot of Disney Movies when I was a kid and I would collect a lot of train sets because I love trains and was obsessed with them. I still have them in my closet and I don't plan on giving them away because its a thing of my childhood.

I only have a few of each, but I love getting Deadpool-themed things as gifts. I have a tank top, PJ pants, sunglasses (which doesn't make much sense because I wear glasses, so they just sit on my bookshelf and collect dust), and 4 keychains. But 1 of those is flat on both sides, maybe half an inch in thickness, while the other 3 (2 of which are the same colour palette) have a rounded front.

Oh, and if there's a Hot Topic or bookstore (before/after covid, ofc), I'll take a peek inside to see if they're selling the Tokidoki Unicorno boxes. I only get one, though, because each one goes for $8. So far, I have 4 unicornos: Pixie, Yuma, Lily, and Gemma. I love them. 🥺

I like to also collect Nintendo Switch skins and cases! I’ve got two so far! One pastel pink/blue gradient one and one limited edition, galaxy sky bunny one!

I also have a pink cat paw Nintendo Switch case! I got them all from Omoskins! But Switch Outfits has pretty cute skins and cases as well!

I collect music and books. I'm hoping that when I'm able to move somewhere more permanent, I can set up some wall shelves for my collection.

A lot of things! I collect a lot of books/manga and I've filled up a bookshelf taller than me and part of a second one. I don't hold onto books I don't want to keep either. I collect a few different types of plush; Pokemon plush are what I have the most of, but I have some Slime Rancher plush and some Alpacassos/Wooly plush as well. Also, I like to collect various merch of my favorite characters—figurines, acrylic stands, keychains, plush (if any exist), art prints, and I have a corkboard for all my pins and can badges.

i collect a few things like:

stickers
i have stickers of pretty much everything i like and i put them on everything i own because i just love to decorate my stuff lol

plushes
i have so many plushes, a few pokemon ones but also basic animal ones i got from ikea because they're soooo soft and cute, i literally have a shark plush the size of me 😂

pop vinyls
i love pop vinyls and i have about 14 now, which isn't much but the characters i like are super expensive so 14 is all i can afford

gem stones
i have a collection of these as regular stones and necklaces and literally started collecting them because i love steven universe, there's no other reasons

amiibos
i need amiibos in my life, so i have like 336 amiibos i think, it's hard to keep track but that's a mix of cards and figures

i used to collect pokemon cards but then my cousin took almost all of mine so i gave up with that 😅
sorry for the long post haha

  • Seashells - I used to collect these when I was very young as I grew up close to the beach, I'd take an empty plastic bottle with me on family walk and fills it up with seashells I found, though I didn't really spend enough time looking for perfect ones so I ended up with lots of bottles of broken seashells but there were a few very nice ones too
  • CDs - Another thing that I don't collect anymore but I used to always purchase physical CDs, in particular I collected the 'Now That's What I Call Music (number)' the UK series versions. This was more a whole family collection which begun when my parents got 'Now 4' in the early 80s and we all generally took it in turns buying the next album while growing up. With digital downloads I stopped buying most physical CDs a long time ago but still got the 'Now' ones but we finally ended this collection when 'Now 100' was released a couple of years ago - now most of them are in a box in the garage as we don't really have anywhere to store them all
  • Soft Toys/Plushies - there isn't a particular theme with these (though I do have a lot of Disney animals) and I'm probably too old to still be collecting them but I have a massive soft spot for soft toys
  • 50p Coins - this is the main thing I still collect, there are a lot of special edition 50p coins in the UK designed to commemorate certain events, anniversaries and people from history
  • Not really a specific collection but I also collect souvenirs from all my holidays - I always make sure to pick up a least one item that has the name of the destination on it

- Games. I only buy or keep physical copies of games I absolutely adore, or own the rest of the series so I feel the need to own the one or two games I think are absolutely awful (looking at you, Final Fantasy XIII trilogy and XV).

Monster Hunter, (as mentioned) Final Fantasy, Pokemon, Blazblue, Legend of Zelda and a bunch of others I can't think of. I don't own every single title (some are just far too ridiculously priced and rare now) but I'll pick ones up I don't have if I see them going for a reasonable price just for the sake of the 'collection of games that I really really like'.

I have a ridiculous amount of digital games, but I don't count them as a collection. I only buy them to play them...Especially since I can't get rid of the ones I find are poo poo. I'm quickly finding myself going all digital, but I'll always want a physical copy of those games I feel are my absolute favorites.

- Blurays, and to a lesser extent, DVD's. It used to be solely DVD's but given the quality of Blurays and the fact I really can't see physical media storage for movies updating much, if at all (with the world quickly going digital), DVD's just became the option for if I can't find or a Bluray version just doesn't exist (c'mon, release True Lies on Blueray! My Schwarzenegger collection needs it!).

Again, it's a case of "I absolutely love this movie or series" to what I'll actually buy as I don't want le'poo on my shelf. With the popularity of streaming services and "not entirely legal" downloads, it's not hard to watch a movie before I buy a physical copy.

- Books. I'm not a massive reader but when I like something, I really like it. I have all the currently released hardback Jojo's Bizarre Adventure books, I'm nearing completion on what's currently released of Battle Angel Alita, I'm a couple off the full collection of D&D 5e books, I have the Gwenpool releases, a nifty Spiderman shelf, Judge Dredd. There's also quite a few short series that I snapped right up when I read them online and decided "this is awesome".

I also own all Bruce Campbells books. One is signed. My slight obsession with a hammy B-Movie actor knows no bounds.

- Tabletop miniatures and Dice. I have so many of each. I'll buy them knowing I'll never use them but I'll just see a fancy set of dice or a cool looking miniature and think "damn, I need that".

The miniatures at least serve a purpose as I do paint them and go all out with the base. I love painting mini's and doing the bases to make them look cool. Dice though...I know full well I won't use them all as I tend to use a specific dice for each character and, well, I probably already have more dice than I'll ever have characters.

- Figures. No theme, I just find the need to own figures of characters I like. This can range from the couple of Gatomon figures I own, a few Alita things I came across, and (more than a bit of) Yoshi merch.

Though none of it beats my...

- Stitch collection. I own quite a bit of Stitch merch, as in Lilo & Stitch. Plushies, figures, fancy statues, fridge magnets, bottle openers, piggy banks, mugs...Some weird little Chinese knock-off thing where it's eyes light up and when you press a button it says "I love you" in the creepiest voice of a little girl I've ever heard.

If it has Stitch on it, I'll probably buy it.

  • Soft Toys/Plushies - there isn't a particular theme with these (though I do have a lot of Disney animals) and I'm probably too old to still be collecting them but I have a massive soft spot for soft toys

You're never too old to do something you like.

I've been on a nostalgia kick and collecting stuff from my childhood in the 90s.

Bought pogs and a gameboy color recently.
