What is the meaning behind your island name?

Mine is called Woodland. I wanted a neutral name that would fit any "theme" I felt like playing with. I also thought, as I learned more about this game, that it'd be extra fitting because wood is such an important resource for building. Plus, when I think of the word "Woodland", I think of woodland critters, so it's perfect for an island of animals!

So many beautiful, well considered names! My New Leaf island was Adolphus, and I re-used it again in New Horizons. I just like the way Adolphus sounds, it is Anglo-Saxon in origin. It is derived from the Old German personal name Adalwuf, which is composed of the elements "adal," meaning "noble," and "wulf," meaning "wolf." My second choice, again because I like the sound, would have been Gustavus.

I named my island Vasisland, a combination of Vasilevski (starting goalie for the Tampa Bay Lightning) and island. I hadn't really planned a name for my island before getting the game, lol, but it felt right, given that it had been 8 days since the NHL season was suspended and I was looking forward to the Oilers-Bolts game that was planned that night before play was suspended, so the name was partially inspired by that. As well, using hockey players as a naming convention has been something I've done a fair amount (my New Leaf town followed it, same with some nicknames I've given my Pokemon in recent playthroughs of various games), so this just followed the norm for me and stayed true to who I am.

I ended up calling my island Riverwood after the starting villager in skyrim and it would fit the kinda cottagecore/forest theme I'm going for! (and it give me a fun reminder of the time I spent running around the world of skyrim)

Kamogawa is also my town's name in New Leaf. I decided to adopt the same name for New Horizons.

In popular media, it's the name of a famous boxing gym. :D

Muir Wood(s) and Inverness are both names of real places. Muir Woods are a famous redwood forest in California; Inverness is a city in Scotland. Mostly I just like the sound of the names, although fittingly Muir Wood is more natural-themed and Inverness is going to be more urbanized, so that works out!

My island's name is "Rhye", from the Queen song Seven Seas of Rhye. A couple of their old songs take place on Rhye which is a mythical kingdom that Freddie Mercury invented as a kid. That song in particular always reminded me of the ocean and pirates so I thought it would be a fitting name for a deserted island!

Also I almost went with Isle of Rhye because I think it sounds awesome but there was the character limit so here I am 😆

My island name is Yarn Isle. I was trying to think of something punny for my island and checked to see if they gave you a suffix in the English localization before deciding.

Crochet is one of my hobbies so I think it's fitting.

My island is called Kapalua, based off of the Hawaiian island. My fiancé and I were supposed to have honeymooned there in August, but we had to postpone the wedding and trip :’(

Being able to build my own little Kapalua has been really helpful. I can’t wait until I can play on Kapalua in Kapalua :)

NL was my first AC game. My town in NL was called New Leaf. I couldn't think of a good name and so I thought that was ok. My island is called New Island in honour of that.

Turtle. Well I love turts, I collect items shaped as turtles, I'm the turt queen aaand I could on forever. Also while I'm not the biggest fan of Discworld, I've read a couple of books from there too.

My main island is called Cocoloco. Since NL my town/ island is always called Cocoloco. It’s just a cute, fun word and I like the playful sound of it!
My second island that I just started today is called Tida, after tida village from final fantasy crystal chronicles!
I loved tida village, it’s so spooky sad and it’s soundtrack is so nice too! Im planning to turn Tida into a spooky eerie abandoned village eventually!

Me and my son went with Wild Falls because he's obsessed with waterfalls and 'wild' was part of his three-year-old vocabulary which seemed to fit!

We've designed the island to live up to its name, I think.

Ah man this is so cute. I hope you guys have a great time when you get to go! It's so nice that you'll always have your AC island to remind you of it, too.

This might be a little political but... Dokdo (aka Liancourt Rocks) is a small island in between Korea and Japan that has been a topic of international dispute over many many years. There are Korean people live there and there is a Korean police station and all, but the Japanese government has been stating that it is their land since the sovereignty of the island would determine the sea borders of Korea and Japan.

Dokdo is the Korean name for the island, so setting my island name as "Dokdo" in a Japanese game was a power move :p

My island is called Goose Isle because one of my dogs is nicknamed Goose, and also I love Untitled Goose Game. I’m thinking about naming my second island DevilFalls because I want a haunted/dark theme.

I named my new island Stardust because I love the stars and moon a lot and I wanted to go with a name that would fit with just about anything and I believe this one does. Plus, it sounded like a great name to me. I'm doing really well on my new island as well. 🥰

I played around with a number of names that would fit an island theme (Seal Cove was almost chosen), and wanted to use 'dolphin', but ran into a character limit. I looked up the word in other languages, and, being Irish, settled on Deilf Isle.
