What Villagers Are Your Unexpected Favorites?

(Mods, let me know if this thread needs to be merged or anything!) Sometimes, you’re searching for your dreamies, and you get a villager you don’t think you’ll like. Maybe they’re ugly. Maybe they’re boring looking or just not the villager you were looking for. In any case, you talk to them or they come to your town or island, and they proceed to become one of your favorites. Tell me about those villagers!

For me, the villagers that accidentally became my favorites are Flo, Bubbles, and Flurry.

Flo was my starting sisterly villager on my original island that I reset, and I was a little bit disappointed because I wanted Cherry. However, I love Flo now! She was a chill big sister I came to care about, and before I reset, I was able to become good enough friends with her to get the Confident reaction from her! So yeah. My Flo amiibo card is on the way, because that’s how much I like her.

Bubbles is similar - she was an early villager on my original island, and I didn’t think I would like her as much as Stitches or Lily. But she proved me wrong! I love her catchphrase, hipster, and she called me superfan, and I loved it! I considered letting her move away, and then I realized that she was one of my three favorites on my island, and I couldn’t let her go. I also have a Bubbles amiibo card on the way because again, I want my peppy Hippo back!

As for Flurry, well, to take something from my profile page:

Me: *goes island hunting for normal villagers on my “cute normal villagers I want” list*
Me: *finds Flurry, who is not on this list*
Me: *listens to Flurry speak*
Me: ...I don’t care that you aren’t Merengue, Tia, or anyone else on my list. I am adopting you, and you are moving to my island because you are sweet and need a friend.

And that’s how Flurry ended up on my new island! I wasn’t expecting to fall for her so quickly, but I’m glad I decided to have her move onto my island even though she wasn’t on my list, because I’m super excited to have her on my island!

the main one that comes to mind for me is zucker. back in new leaf, while i never hated zucker, i definitely didn’t really care for him. flash forward to my first few weeks with new horizons and i run into zucker while island hopping; still don’t care for him but he’s pretty popular and i figured that i could make some easy money off him once he moves out. ,,,,,, it’s now almost a year later and he’s still on my island LMAO. i’m not entirely sure what happened but i grew attached to him so, so quickly and now i can’t imagine not having him around. he’s just,, the sweetest lil guy and i love him a lot.

I guess you could say my unexpected favorites became Elvis, Frank, and Sly; I wasn't looking for any of them, especially since I'd never even heard of or seen them at all. (Haven't played any other Animal Crossing games before New Horizons either, besides Pocket Camp.) But they each showed up in my campsite at one point, and I decided to move them in based on a vague interest as well as the sense that they would fit with the theme I was going for. Seems my gut feelings turned out to be correct, because I've now made them permanent on my island~

Unfortunately, I recently had Cherry move out... D: I even put her up for adoption here before she was gone. If I found out earlier just how much you want her, I would've loved to give her to you! ; ; Hopefully you'll find her soon!!

Oh my God. Zucker moved to my island completely randomly because at the time I didn't realize I could hunt villagers with NMT (I caught on slow q.q) and so he just moved in. I HATED him. I wanted him to leave. Then I have no idea when or how it happened, but he grew on me. When he FINALLY asked me to move out, I couldn't let him go. Now I'll never let him leave my Island. He's trapped here.

The only other Villager I can think of is Cookie. I specifically went looking for Bam, met Cookie, and instantly melted. I just couldn't leave her. Now I'm jockless, but it's okay. Cookie is my heart.

I'd say that while playing New Horizons that my most unexpected favourites are Judy and Raymond. I found both while island hopping for villagers during my first month of having the game and I hadn't been actively looking for either but I was low on NMTs at the time and took them, thinking I'd just swap them out later. Its getting close to a year later though and they're both still on my island, think they're my longest villagers now and I'm not planning on moving them out anytime soon. When I'd first seen Judy I didn't expect to be a fan, think it was her eyes as I didn't think I'd warm to them and how different they are but she's lovely and reminds me off a cute little care bear. As for Raymond I just presumed he was an overacted cat and I know many still see him that way but I think he's great and his colouring and smug attitude reminds me off one of my cats so I have a soft spot for him. I'm glad I found them both and gave them a chance as it turned out to be a very good decision

For the first time ever I've actively seeked out Genji since I was lacking a jock, and also don't really like 95% of jocks out there design wise.

I like Genji's aesthetic a lot not only because he's a rabbit, but because of his eastern vibes too.

I was actually surprised to find out he was a jock o: Genji really striked me as a cranky at first.

I'd say my unexpected favorite is Beardo. He moved in from the campsite simply because I decided that I wanted another smug villager but didn't really think anything special about him. But over time, I've grown more fond of him and now I'd say he's one of my favorite villagers.

Gladys! At first, I thought she was kinda cool, but not a dreamie. Fast-forward to now, and she's a permanent resident of Solaris! I just adore how elegant and kind she is <3

For me it was definitely Marina. When I saw her in the older games, I thought she was weird and would never want her in my town because she wasn't cuddly or foresty. But now I love her so much and think she's so cute and sweet. I literally wrote her a letter that said "NEVER LEAVE ME." lol

It was Tybalt for me. I had a jock villager before and I thought he was annoying, so I didn't have high hopes for Tybalt. But I thought he looked cute, so I invited him from the campsite and decided to give him a chance. I'm glad I did because now he's one of my favorite villagers.

when amiibos first released, i instantly went to the shops and i legit bought every single packet and when i got home i had gotten del and rooney in one of them
i thought they were both pretty ugly tbh, but as i got older i started to appeciate more villagers and i learned to love these two

also grizzly
i had ketchup in my campsite and she was my old friend's dreamie so i invited her and she was soooo annoying, i actually hated her
then i got grizzly in my camp and was so desperate to get rid of ketchup that i invited him without thinking about it and i actually ended up loving him so much

there's loads more though, as a child i probably liked about 15 villagers
now i adore almost all of them

Mine was mint in New leaf. I was saving the last spot for Marshall, but then I saw mint. I knew I'd miss Marshall if he ever came, but it's worth it having mint.

I'd say it's Peggy. She showed up in both of the City Folk towns I have and I got rid of her.
Then when I decided to buy a second copy of New Leaf, she was a starter. After a while, I realized I didn't want her to move anymore.

Antonio lived on my New Leaf island for a week or two. I thought he was ugly and I ended up moving him out.

Come New Horizons, I got him as a starter, and I planned to replace him with Bam or somebody.

However, as I played New Horizons more and more, Antonio became one of my all time favorites and now he’s never leaving my island. I just love his tail and his catchphrase and like a few other members of this forum I’ve caught him walking around with a chocolate covered donut while talking about his abs. I’ve gifted him a retro sweater too and he just looks so adorable in it!! Antonio will forever have a home on any town/island in any game.

I am honestly delighted to see this Flurry love, cos she's my fave. When she moved into my first town in New Leaf I was instantly hooked. Even though I didn't like Rodney, she had the cutest little friendship with him that made me tolerate him more.

I was so happy to get her amiibo recently and I moved her straight in. She's non-negotiable and a permanent fixture to my island now.

Happy to see someone else showing Flurry the love she deserves.

Rudy was my unexpected favorite. I never had any interest in him, but having started NH with him as my first starter, I found out how adorable he is. I think it was a cute idea to make him a cat look like rudolph rather than the expected reindeer.

I’ll say Rudy the cat. I have an all dog and wolf island and that won’t be changing, but Rudy is a nice villager. He’s my favorite cat, and he’d definitely be on my island if I weren’t so attached to my current villagers. He falls into the color scheme I have too. He’s just… not a dog or a wolf. It’s unfortunate.

ed.... definitely ed :') he was my tutorial smug for NH and i was really disappointed to see him when i entered my campsite, but i got really attached to him and now he's a permanent member of my island. he's never allowed to leave. ever. i even picked up his amiibo card so i can summon him right back on the off chance i accidentally let him move out

I always thought Deirdre wasn't the cutest villager, and never really wanted her, but she was one of my starting villagers in ACNH & she grew on me. She also fit in really well on my cottagecore island so.

I also really didn't like Tabby when I was a child, but she has grown on me as an adult in this game. Her grin is too cute!
