There are a lot of things I plan to do differently in this game than in New Leaf.
For example...
-I will not time travel.
-In new leaf I went on here and I bought all the furniture sets I wanted and didn't bother getting them myself. Like the bug, fish, cabana, mermaid and any other furniture set I wanted. I will get everything myself. The only think I will get will be items I can't get in my game.
-I will get my hybrids myself. I bought a pair of each hybrid in new leaf.
-I will only scan in Beau. I won't pick just my favorites in this game. I picked every villager in new leaf and once i got them I never let them leave.
- Actually finish the museum for once.

Yeah that is some of the thing I will do differently in this game than in New Leaf. What about you?

the main thing is i plan on not time travelling - even if it is still a feature, i want to refrain from doing it this time around as i practically sped through new leaf and i don’t want to do that with new horizons

I won’t time travel, and I plan on not resetting things after I reset initially to get the town color/fruit/etc. I want,

My list is pretty similar to yours c:

One thing I would add to mine is to have a nicely planned island, since I've pretty much left my town in ACNL in its natural state.

And also perhaps start a journal specifically for ACNH!

I am thinking about a journal for this game as well lol. I actually just made a post about it. All the pictures I have been seeing of other people's journals gave me some ideas.

I'm not gonna reset ever. I'm gonna get a starting island I'm happy with and keep it going indefinitely! I've never completed a museum collection before, or fully furnished every single room in a maxed out home, so I'd love to stick with an island long enough to see everything come together and be proud of it!! :D

I never actually finished making my town in NL the way I wanted it to be. I wanted it to be really pretty and landscaped nicely, with my characters' house interiors and the museum rooms all looking super nice. Part of the issue was I didn't like placements of things that I couldn't change. So I would like to make a really nice island and houses this time.

My plans and goals:

1. Absolutely no time travel:
When New Leaf came out, I time travelled a metric heck ton and I often got bored of it quickly. Two years later, I stumbled upon TBT and my opinion on Time Travel changed greatly and I absolutely love the 'legitimate' play style.

2. Less picky about my villagers:
Adding onto what I mentioned for #1, when I joined TBT I found out what "dreamies" were, and I sort of got way too addicted about having so much control over who moved to my town. It got to the point where all my towns just had the same villagers, with very little difference. Near the end, I did try to mix it up but it was difficult because I was so use to certain villagers.

I'm basically still going to go for a few dreamies, namely Skye and Wolfgang, but the rest of my villagers are just going to be villagers I let move in naturally (Getaway Package or Campground) or I come across while using Nook Miles Tickets.

3. Complete the Museum and Critterpedia:
Despite being such an Animal Crossing fanatic... I've actually never really completed the Museum, or critterpedia/encyclopedia. I want to complete them in New Horizons, without time travel abuse.

4. Actually keep my town/island for more than a couple months:
I have a nasty habit of suddenly wanting to restart, despite how well my progress is going. I'm going to break this habit in New Horizons.

5. Create an Island that makes everyone go "wow!":
With Terraforming (Island Designer) being a feature added, a feature I've wanted for AGES might I add, I want to use my hobby as a landscaper and create something that makes everyone here on the forums absolutely amazed. I want to have an island that no one will forget.

No dreamies outside 2 or 3 favorite villagers, no resetting after getting what I want at the start, and no time travel... if possible.

The "no dreamies" is one that I will for sure not repeat, that is what killed my drive to play NL

1. Get all hybrids myself
2. Get all furniture/clothing I can myself
3. Beat my playtime of 2,500 hours (this is going to happen anyway)
4. Be less picky about villagers / not get anyone from anyone else's town / amiibo cards.

I have a few rules I’ve set in place for myself (mainly to keep the game fresh and challenging) but nothing too different from my previous play style.

Since I’m starting together with everyone else though, including my irl mate, I’m more determined than ever to keep my town from Day 1 onward!

I plan to do this too. I did find it killed some of that fun for me with excessive trading.

I will still trade here though. There will be items I will not be able to get myself, such as region exclusives, anything that requires Pocket Camp, and if there's anything that I want that will be locked to amiibos that I don't have.

Because of the Amiibo cards, I plan on caring more about my animal villagers. Other than that, I'll approach this title like all the others.

Such a good topic idea.

I think I'm gonna relax about the fave villagers. Cause once you get all the villagers you love, you never want them to leave, but when you eventually feel the need for fresh faces, it's too hard to let any of them go.

I'm gonna spread the villagers home out around the island. Residential areas is definitely a fun idea, but I found at least in NL, villagers never walked around the whole town anymore.

I feel like they've given me less reasons to time travel now, cause I'm pretty sure I've seen we can access Timmy and Tommy's shop 24/7 now?

More or less. They aren't open 24/7, but there will be a box outside their shop you'll use to place items you'd like to sell, and they'll automatically pay you (how is foggy for me, right now). Only downside is that you won't get higher prices for special items.

I’m going to try to fill the museum completely - I have never achieved that in the past! No time traveling, no restarting, have my island fully decked out with themes, making it an island/town that I love in every area. I want to draw some fan art of my island and villagers (I never draw fan art) and create my own clothes.

I second the time traveling thing! I did it a lot in New Leaf, and I really don't think it's a bad thing to do, but I want to take it slower this time. Especially because back then I had a lot more free time to just play for hours on end, but now I think a more relaxed play style would suit my life better :)

I'm also going to reset for a couple things I really care about. I didn't bother with New Leaf, but I think it would be worth it to reset a couple times just to really start off with a town I love! I can't even remember what my native fruit was in New Leaf because I just replaced all the trees with peach :p This time I'll actually be able to grow perfect fruit!

I'll maybe go a little slower.
I don't mean with fishing or gathering materials, but planning and landscaping.

I want to get an idea of what I'm working with, and maybe just start with my own house and yard, and a villager community.

I won't amiibo them in until I've completely mapped out a place for them.

I want to not let myself feel too overwhelmed.

I want to enjoy my island for a while.
