What’s the dumbest injury you’ve sustained?

Not a single big injury, but I keep scratching the back of my feet for various reasons. The worst is when I scratch it with my toenail from the other foot (like when I’m shuffling around in bed, or sitting on the couch). My toenails aren’t even long, like I never make them grow beyond my toes. They’re just really sharp for some reason.

As it stands rn I have one scar on my left foot and 3 scars on my right (2 of which came from cycling — the footpads have screws and I keep getting my feet scratched lmao).

Today after I finished showering, I was cleaning my left ear and I accidentally hit it with my Q-Tip. For your information, I have not once inserted it in my ear canal. I was just cleaning the outside of my ear.

Anyway, it hurt badly. And I didn't realize it bled a little as well until I fidgeted with my left ear idly a few hours later. Before I knew it, I had dried blood on my fingertips. T_T

I don't usually tend to sustain any major injuries, though I occasionally trip on or bump into something. The only example I can think of was when I first started working my current job. I wasn't careful with the fryer and ended up splashing hot oil on my right hand. It left a huge mark and my hand didn't heal for over a week (probably because I didn't even bother to treat it, lol).

I broke my chin on a three-step staircase at my old church shortly before Mother's Day 2011 because I was trying to run up to an old friend and I was so excited to see her...I got a scar after that brief trip to the doctor.

When I was real young, I used to go inside my grandfather's dog's doghouse and there were nails sticking out near the roof of it. One time, I got up inside it, and injured my head against the nails...to give you an idea of how bad it was I had to get several staples in my head. No permanent damage, thankfully. I don't even remember it that well. I just know it happened.

I have two tales of woe.

1. About 7 years ago, I was on my way to work one morning when the temperatures were below freezing. I was rushing out the door because I was running a little late. It hadn't snowed or iced or anything, but (as I learned momentarily) there was a leak from an overhanging pipe, and the water had dripped onto the front porch, creating a tiny quarter-sized circle of ice on the wood. I discovered this when I managed to somehow use that EXACT point to push myself off the top step, so I flew headfirst onto the concrete walkway, landed on my head and knee, bled very dramatically through the leg of my jeans, and instantly got a concussion. (Bonus: our neighbor came over to MEET ME FOR THE FIRST TIME because he saw me go down and literally introduced me to his wife while I was lying prone on the ground trying to seem normal so he wouldn't call 911. It was wild.) I was off work for an entire week and had to scoot from place to place on my butt, and thanks to the concussion I couldn't even watch or play anything digital.

2. I work in a library. About a year ago, I was checking on the receipt paper in one of our automatic checkout machines because it had become clogged and would no longer print. There's a heavy metal lower compartment that opens outward to reveal the receipt paper, kind of like a mouth, and you have to unlock the compartment with a key and carefully pull the tray down. But in this instance it was completely stuck thanks to all the wadded up receipt paper jammed into the opening. I tugged hard on the tray and it suddenly popped open, slamming down on my thumb and ripping off a good chunk of skin. I was bleeding everywhere. I had to go into the back to grab the first aid kit, but after about five minutes I was like "I don't feel so good, I need to sit down" and then according to my supervisor, my eyes rolled back in my head and I dropped to the ground. Woke up to coworkers standing around me and pretty soon the city's medical team showed up to check me out. (I was fine.)

Did I faint when I split my chin open as a kid? When a dog ripped my face open? When I had teeth pulled or got a concussion or was hit by a car? Nope! It was the stupid knuckle injury, completely out of nowhere. I wasn't even stressed about it! I knew it was no big deal! I had some kind of intense subconscious adrenaline response and fainted for the actual first time in my entire life. So embarrassing.

I slipped while playing kickball at school in an attempt to make it to third base just before I would have been tagged out (for a triple run). I caught my fall with my left wrist by extending it backwards behind my body as I fell on my back and I had a small stress fracture.

What class do you think I broke my wrist in while playing kickball?

Not P.E.

I was in AP WORLD HISTORY?
We had already taken the AP Exam (final but not with the school) and had nothing better to do. Oh well...

I broke my right index fingernail on my desk. Somehow, I lined it up just perfectly that the microscopic area between my finger and the end of the nail caught the edge of the desk as I was bringing my arm down from adjusting my webcam. Broke the top half clean off. Yeah, that hurt.

A few years back I had put two of my cats in my bedroom and closed the door. I forget the reason why, but it was temporary One of my cats had decided to claw at the carpet by the door, uplifting it and causing us to be unable to open the door properly. Like, not even enough room for my cat to get out.
I also have a desk by my door, so trying to put the carpet down on my end didn't really work well. I had to stand on a small, rookety table and squeeze my leg through and onto the desk.
The small table decided to wobble and my leg got caught on the metal door latch causing me to get a bad scratch. I now have a slight scar on my leg.

Another scar I got was due to a ladder.
To get into our loft, it's not the saftest but we need two ladders, and one of them is this ladder that extends when you clip it. It has two lil levers on the side, you pull them towards you and the other part of the ladder can be changed to taller or going back to small. As we were putting it away, it's easier to close with two people, but I dunno what happened but the ladder bit came down and shut onto my arm a bit. Causing a small scar on my arm now.
But it's like a raised scar, like you can see if you were looking for it.
Now everytime I deal with that ladder I am always completely cautious when closing it back up again.

I twisted my ankle on some loose gravel, which led me to breaking my fibula and had to have 2 surgeries to get the bone realigned again 🤦‍♀️ fortunately I went to a podiatrist that had a very similar incident which made me feel less stupid!

A couple months ago I was washing the dishes, and I must've pressed too hard on a ceramic plate with the scrubbing brush. The plate snapped and the sharp edge sliced the top of my hand open. It bled for ages, but I didn't need any stitches. The scar on my hand is going to take some time to disappear though 🤦‍♀️

Don't know about dumbest, but I should've listened to my brain today and not walked in the gutter. I felt it was a little slippery, but I still kept going. Soon enough, I found myself on my butt right outside my place basically.

There's the time I was leaning forward on a bar stool and I went forward a little too far, not only did I fall but the edge of the stool slammed straight into my lower back. Physically, I was fine but it hurt for two weeks. And then I also burned half of my thumb print off when I decided it would be a good idea to set toilet paper on fire for whatever insane reason, it blistered pretty bad I still have a scar. Both of these happened in middle school by the way lol, I probably have way more too but those are definitely the most memorable.

The amount of times I've sprained/fractured my ankle is ludicrous. I have very flimsy ankles, so if I step somewhere that is steep, uneven, etc, or if I'm just not paying attention to my walking, my ankle will roll and if it catches me off guard, down I go. 😪 This has happened 3 times; once in a hallway at one of my old schools (I didn't even step on anything, my ankle just decided to give out on me), once stepping on an uneven part of sidewalk, and once stepping on an uneven part of the floor in a Walmart. The last time was the worst; I was in an aircast for 3 months and had to do physiotherapy.

I also sprained my index, middle, and ring fingers on my right hand years ago by catching a football wrong during gym at school. Also fell off a treadmill once and had a bruise the size of a continent on my right leg.

When I was a lot younger, I cut my finger pretty bad from using scissors to open candy. Luckily I don't remember much about the experience.

Not really my fault, but several months ago, I was holding my cat pretty close to my face, when the dogs suddenly started barking at my dad (who they mistook as a stranger) walking outside the front of our house. The cat was obviously startled by it all, and scratched the whole right side of my arm as well as put a large gash in the center of my chest as he escaped my grasp and ran away. It was pretty painful when it happened, and I had to deal with the marks for quite a while as they were fairly deep.

If there was a moment that was indeed my fault, it would have to be all the way back when I was a baby. If I recall correctly the story my mom told me, I was outside with the dog I had at the time, and when my mom wasn't looking, started grabbing his tail and pulling it. Needless to say, the dog didn't like that, and bit my face hard in defense. I was rushed to the hospital and got around 4-5 stitches put on my left cheek, and that small mark left from that operation all the way back then still remains today as my most identifiable facial feature. It's never bothered me, really. In fact, it sort of makes me who I am: A healthy person that takes quite a lot of outside factors to slow down.

This was a while ago. I was helping my grandmother put groceries in the trunk of my car. I am quite aggressive with my movements- so I've been told, anyways...
And while I was loading the frozen fish, the hard plastic edges of the packaging grazed my eye. It hurt.

Another regarding my eye is walking behind a person in high school who had long hair and their hair hitting my eye. I don't know if anyone has experienced it, but it is quite annoying.

The other day, I was pulling a really heavy coffee table back not knowing how heavy it was and "stubbed" the interwebbings between my ring and pinky toe. My pinky toe swelled up, bruised and bled a little.

Somehow managed to get a papercut with a milk carton. Oh, and a rubber band missile aimed at my friend backfired and hit me in the eye. Instant karma, we love to see it. c':
