What's the last movie you've seen?

On Friday night, The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs had its Halloween special, this year entitled the Beelzebub Bash. The first movie they showed was director Jeff Lieberman's 2004 movie Satan's Little Helper. It was my first time watching this movie and perhaps my last since I didn't like it much; there were a few aspects that I liked, but it was mostly a dumpster fire. I've watched many horror movies in my time and one of the characters in this movie is the most aggravatingly stupid character I have ever seen. The second movie shown as part of the Beelzebub Bash was directors Cameron and Colin Cairnes' 2023 movie Late Night with the Devil. I've seen it before, but it was a good way to recover after the previous movie.

On Saturday night I did my yearly viewing of director Don Coscarelli's Phantasm and Phantasm II, which were released in 1979 and 1988 respectively.

On Sunday night I did my yearly viewings of director Bernard Rose's 1992 movie Candyman and director John Carpenter's 1980 movie The Fog.

Tonight was Mummy Monday and I did my yearly viewing of director Terence Fisher's 1959 Hammer Studios version of The Mummy. I also revisited a movie that I quite like but hadn't gotten around to in a good number of years: director Don Coscarelli's 2002 movie Bubba Ho-Tep.

The Boxtrolls. You can tell that everyone involved had a fun time working on the movie. The character models look really good and I like how the hair had life to it instead of looking flat and boring. I also liked how each of the Boxtrolls had their own unique personalities and look to them.

The last movie I watched in theaters was the new Venom movie, I really enjoyed it and I am really sad to see the series end. I thought the humor was great, the story was great and the acting was good too! I can't wait for it to be out on streaming so I can see it again.

The last movie I watched on television was my annual rewatch of Hocus Pocus, it is one of my favorite Halloween themed movies that I rewatch every year. I never get tired of seeing it, the nostalgia is real. I can't believe how long ago this movie came out... time sure flies.

I watched Monsters Inc. on Sunday. It was cute and funny, just as I remembered-- and perfect for the spooky season.

I saw Deadpool & Wolverine recently.Yeah, the superhero thing hasn't aged well but the Deadpool series is an exception for me because it's never taken too seriously. They're silly,over-the-top movies but they're also a lot of fun.

Last Tuesday, October 29th, was National Cat Day so I did my yearly viewings of director Stuart Gordon's 1985 movie Re-Animator and director Mary Lambert's 1989 original adaptation of Stephen King's novel Pet Sematary.

Wednesday night I did my yearly viewings of director George A. Romero's `1982 movie Creepshow and director Fred Dekker's 1987 movie The Monster Squad.

Halloween was a day off work that was chock-full of movies from waking up until bedtime, and I watched:
- Frankenstein (1931, directed by James Whale)
- Bride of Frankenstein (1935, directed by James Whale)
- Son of Frankenstein (1939, directed by Rowland V. Lee)
- The Invisible Man (1933, directed by James Whale)
- The Wolf Man (1941, directed by George Waggner)
- Trick 'R Treat (2007, directed by Michael Dougherty)
- Halloween (1978, directed by John Carpenter)
- Night of the Demons (1988, directed by Kevin S. Tenney)
- Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982, directed by Tommy Lee Wallace)
- Dracula (1931, directed by Tod Browning)

On Friday night, in loose acknowledgment for the first day of the Day of the Dead, I did the yearly rewatch of director George A. Romero's 1968 movie Night of the Living Dead. I also watched director Dan O'Bannon's 1985 movie The Return of the Living Dead since I usually watch that every year on Halloween but didn't fit it in.

I finished the month+ long horror marathon yesterday with the original 1978 version of Dawn of the Dead and the 1985 movie Day of the Dead, both from director George A. Romero.

I'm now all movied out. Might or might not watch something around Thanksgiving or maybe on some random weekend before, I dunno. Definitely Christmas stuff in December though!

I watched Smile 2 yesterday... Not gonna lie it's hard for a horror movie to actually scare me, like good. But wow Smile 2 scared me alot. Super freaky but great movie.

I watched Piece by Piece tonight, and I thought it was great, and a cool take on the fact he wanted it to be made into a Lego movie. Really nice visuals, and so bright. I love how all the symbolism and story was portrayed In colors

ghostbusters-frozen-empire-poste.jpg

I saw both Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire recently.Afterlife was nostalgic, fun and funny all at the same time while Frozen Empire was kind of a weak rehash of the very first Ghostbusters movie but it was still good to see the original Ghostbusters suit up for one more adventure.

The Karate Kid II at home yesterday. I watched the original Karate Kid for the first time a month or two ago. I'm planning to watch Karate Kid III eventually as well.

Kung Fu Panda 3. I've been wanting to re-watch it for a long time now to remember how I felt about it, whether I liked it or not.

Only one moment throughout the entire movie gave me the feels: the scene taken directly from Kung Fu Panda 2 with Po's mom and baby Po. Being reminded about the events of the second movie made me feel more emotion than anything else, because THAT'S a good movie 🥹

Part 3 is okay, I guess, but I remembered why it didn't leave much of an impact on me. I also remembered why the villain is just...nothing.

Part 1 and 2, the stakes are higher and the villains are written better, they're more fleshed out, and more sympathetic. Kai... Not so much. He's just there, he just did a thing and wanted more power.

The best thing about Kung Fu Panda 3 is Mr. Ping. If it weren't for him being a main presence throughout the film....yeah.

Oh well. Kung Fu Panda 4 exists solely to make the third movie better by comparison. Part 1 and 2 are literally all we needed, they are superior. We're introduced to everyone, we're told their stories and their arcs are concluded perfectly.
