I’ve had Fauna since early April. Give her wrapped gifts every day. Been on sixth level friendship for over a month. Still no picture! Everyone else on my island has given me their pic a long time ago... Can anyone top nearly three months?

...Merry was one of my first villagers, so I've had her since March 20th or so. Still no picture, and I've given her TONS of gifts

Speaking of which, does anyone know how exactly you get pictures? I'm 99% sure I got Erik's (my only one) by playing a game with him, where I dug it up... do they all get given that way? Or can they also be mailed to you or something? Do you need to talk to them when they're deep in though, or when they run up to you?
Like I said, I've only gotten one, and it was so unexpected I didn't pay much attention to how I got it

They will give them to you in return for a gift, or successfully completing a quest. The only time you get one via mail is if you gave them a good birthday gift at their party and your friendship was at that high a level. You get points every day that count towards your friendship level— when they start asking you for a special greeting, that’s how you know you’re on the level where you can get their picSpeaking of which, does anyone know how exactly you get pictures? Since mid-April. I don't give gifts too frequently, since I dislike the idea of the pictures being locked behind GIVING VILLAGERS STUFF! I mean if I was really best friends with them then why would it matter? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to just gift me their picture randomly (like they did in previous games?)
I mean it is just greedy for my villagers to demand a gifts as the only way to get their pictures >.>

I am at that level with Nibbles, and she has never given me her picture, and I don't give her stuff on a regular basis... I'd rather be given her picture by surprise without it being locked behind me giving them a gift.
...Honestly, the vast majority of mine have asked for a special greeting
I also gave Merry an epic birthday gift (one of her top favorites, according to an online generator) but NOPE. I can't remember what she gave me, but it wasn't a pic.Guess I just gotta be patient!
You can get their picture just by talking to them every day, but it will take you at least 125 days and you’ll have to do a quest for them

Okay, then I guess if I REALLY want a villager's pic then I am going to have to do that.
I mean, they're not generally asking for expensive stuff. The best stuff to give them is just something to show you know them well. Since the only way to really show that is through gifts, since the game doesn't have any in-depth conversation system, it makes sense.
Also, for what it's worth, I've had a lot of villagers get to the "special greeting" stage who I've given MAYBE one or two gifts!

To everyone wanting to up their friendship level, give foreign fruit and iron wall lamps to your villagers EVERYDAY. For me, I started giving Antonio fruit for about 4 days after having him for a month and giving him clothes/furniture and he gave me his photo!

In new leaf, I didn’t get any of my villagers’ pictures until a year (Jeremiah and Merengue), but for New Horizons, I haven’t gotten any single one of my villagers’ framed photos yet! 
I never do requests and Wolfgang gave me his pic yesterday after I gave him a coconut.

And that's a great idea! Assuming they don't use the fruit as a weird house decoration, that way you won't mess up their houses. I generally give them cute clothes, if I give them anything. I use that online generator that tells you their top favorite items!
