I've been waiting and thinking of when will Nintendo make amiibo cards of those new villagers and npcs from NH. People for sure need those cards so they can get their villagers.

Maybe they’ll release after New Horizons has been out for a year
This is what I'm thinking too, I hope they do Sanrio characters again, but this time the actual characters! that would be great, I need Retsuko to live in my town lol
I wouldn't mind having Etoile back either...

New Leaf was released in Japan in Nov 2012, and didn't see amiibos until Nov 2016... So at most, not until about 2024

I'm not expecting them anytime soon. I hope I'm wrong but I feel like it'll be a while still since there's not many new villagers.

I don't think they'll release them any time soon. My guess would be a year or two from now at best. Many people just got the game over the holidays so I don't think they'd take all their exclusive new villagers and release them as amiibos straight after that. At some point I expect they'll be added but they're kind of bad at putting out their existing cards already. It's super slow going as it is!

It seems like if they choose to make new ones, it won't be a priority on their to-do list. I'm thinking maybe once they're satisfied with the state of the game, they'll maybe make amiibos of the new NH characters. And maybe if they are feeling like amiibos are worth their time/effort/profit, they'll re-release older Animal Crossing amiibos with updated New Horizons designs.

I don't think they'll ever release any more, Amiibos seem to be phasing out now, I was surprised they even included the functionality in New Horizons.

They built NFC readers into the Switch and Pro Controller. And Ammibos are used in Breath of the Wild, Smash Bros, Splatoons, and even Skyrim. I don't see them being phased out.

I hope they make new amiibo cards for Judy, Raymond, Audie, Sherb, and Dom because those villagers are the ones that don't have their amiibo cards hence the reason why people go crazy with them because they are hard to find in the game when hunting.

Each amiibo card series was a batch of about 100, iirc. I think there's enough new NPCs but unless they drop a bunch of new villagers, I don't think we'll be seeing any more AC amiibo.

Just because you don't use them doesn't mean others don't. I've got 15-20 that I use regularly.

They are also still releasing new ones. Byleth, Terry and Banjo-Kazooie from the Smash line are coming out at the end of March this year. :)

I do not think Nintendo will manufacture new amiibo cards. They should have with the launch of New Horizons, but the fiasco behind amiibo Festival seems to have worked against that idea. New Horizons' success encouraged them to start the manufacturing once more, but it was too late to make new ones.

Nintendo's position on this is confusing for sure.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this, but each series of cards (including Welcome Amiibo RV cards) has had between 50 to 100 cards in the series. While it's possible, I'm not confident they would release a new series with the new villagers and NPCs, as that would only be around 10 cards or so. I wonder if it may be further down the road when there are enough new villagers/NPCs to justify a new series.

mmm idk i feel like there's still a group that would enjoy amiibo cards. i definitely wasn't one to collect cards, but i certainly bought them for villager implementation, and i would do it again as well. i can imagine a lot of players would be interested in just buying em in lieu of island hopping for hours or buying villagers through forums.

as for a release date, i would be surprised if they came out anytime soon.

I personally can't imagine it's even remotely difficult to just make the missing amiibo cards, so if they wanted to have them by now they would've. They're either waiting for a special anniversary/event, or they're not going to release them at all. My money is on them not getting released, otherwise they will have to put them in with the other packs and rerelease a series with the same villagers we've seen before, 10 villagers isn't enough to get their own card series

They can release all series under new branding. Most of them are currently branded towards New Leaf and the RVs. And if I'm not mistaken, they aren't available for purchase anymore outside of pre-owned type sales.

I'm not entirely sure either, but I think they have been re-stocking the existing cards the last few months (source). Not sure if that means they are still committed to the old cards or if they are just trying to clear them out before releasing a new, possibly rebranded set.
