Post-holiday winter is probably my least favorite time of the year. Back when I was in school, it was Summer because I had to spent almost three months without seeing my friends.
But now since I am not in school anymore and there are more things to do in the Summer, I have realized that Winter now my least favorite season.
I love the beginning of Winter. It is when people are in the spirit for Christmas, there are family gatherings, yummy food, fun Christmas games (we played Dirty Santa for 2019 and 2020), and it is nice to get some things you have been wanted and money. ^_^
But once January rolls around, things start to shut down. It gets even colder outside and there is not much to do outside the house, so people are cooped up inside for the next two months.
Of course, this Winter is even more lifeless due to, as we all know, COVID-19, and while I am a homebody, I have my limits. I mostly miss going to the Cingery (it is a movie theater with an arcade).
One of the reasons I made this thread is because my area experienced a Winter storm yesterday (we have also been stuck inside for the last few days due to the extremely cold temperatures), and the issues have carried over to today. Most of the people in my town are experiencing blackouts due to these temperature. We were one of the lucky few who are not, but my dad was planning to have people over, which I was secretly not liking the idea of that, as it throws things off and you are expected to behave, dress, etc. a certain way.
We are actually snowed in right now, due to the snow we got yesterday and the extended below-freezing temperatures. We were actually experienced single-digit temperatures yesterday and this morning! And it stayed in the teens today. And yes, I mean Fahrenheit! I live in Texas, so this is a very rare situation we are facing.
I am by no means a psychiatrist, nor do I have it, but I believe Seasonal Affective Disorder in the Winter can be linked to the lack of chemicals and Vitamin D from the sun and the fact that a lot of people are sheltered inside during the majority of Winter.
Once spring comes, it will not be so cold and lifeless. And while I don't expect COVID to drop to zero as soon as spring comes, it will at least eliminate freezing cold temperatures and makes things more lively, and we can still go out as long as we practice social distancing.
