I was ready for winter to be over the day it started. I hate winter, and I have hated it since experiencing snow for the first time. It’s miserable, and cold, and it hurts to breathe in cold air, but it also sucks to breathe when wearing a mask, so it’s a lose-lose situation.
It’s also bad when you wear glasses, such as myself, and you go from a warm building or car, to outside, where it is maybe 30°F on a good day, and your glasses fog up! I feel even worse for you if your glasses are made of metal, because I can imagine how cold your ears/bridge would be.
Let’s see... ah, right. Again, because COVID, I was already rigorously washing my hands as to not get sick (despite also being a homebody), the cold, dry air makes it worse. On top of that, washing my hands at all in winter really flares up my eczema! Fun! Winter is so great, isn’t it?
More fun, is that, for some magical reason, my hair becomes very dry in winter. And what happens when thick, voluminous hair becomes dry and frizzy? It gathers static like the dickens. It’s only mildly frustrating because I know, for a fact that I used conditioner on this wild mane ‘o mine, and now it’s disobeying me because winter has the driest, most uncomfortable air quality.
How about if you want to go on a walk, omitting how awful it is to breathe? Well, I hope you have thick boots, maybe waterproof or have traction, because if you’re not accidentally stepping on ice (and slipping a bit, and giving yourself a slight sense of “oh god today is the day I slip and die”), you’re likely going to get trapped by a mountain of snow that someone didn’t shovel from the sidewalk, or stepping through slush, which melts on your shoes the moment you come into contact with it. Driving is likely worse, too, since black ice is real and incredibly dangerous! And if you have a smaller car (like a smart car), and you try to go up a steep hill, good luck! You might end up fishtailing (cue sense above^, but in a car, which is objectively worse).
tl;dr — I truly despise winter. The hot cocoa and snuggling are nice, but the cons outweigh the pros for me.
