Winter Holiday Exchange?

Just wanted to kinda get a feel for if the community might wanna partake in an exchange of sorts with a bit of decorating creativity mixed in.

With December approaching soon, I was thinking it may be fun to plan something with the community.

Idea:
Each person designs a small area in their town with a festive tree and whatever else inspires you. If you don't get a festive tree diy close to the date, I'm sure we can all help out to craft them for one another.

The week before Christmas (friday december 25th), I'll make a thread in the airport where people can post a photo of their finished area. We can formulate visits/drop-offs to each person's tree a wrapped present. Ideally you save the presents around your tree for Christmas day to open.

I was thinking similar to the Wishing Well thread made by @LilBabyDelirium that a person can post a photo of their area or simply post indicating they're online/ready for delivery and those that want to wrap a present and drop off to their tree can pm that person and so forth. People dropping off can like the person's post to show how many have dropped off to that person thus far...and/or the posters can update their post crediting their "santas" so we can make sure everyone gets roughly around the same amount. If you see someone that has 5 gifts dropped off, drop off to the person with only 1 or 2 etc.

If people would be interested, let me know and I'll plan to have a topic made up for the airport during that time (approx December 18th). If you would prefer having the topic open sooner (December 1st) to interact early with one another and get help let me know in the poll. The actual exchange part wouldn’t start till the 18th and run up to the 24th.

We could also just use this topic to show design progress or share ideas for your tree area until then. <3

Ooh, sounds like fun! Should we also use this thread if we need help gathering material? Because I know that a....certain material is hard to come by.

christmas ornaments can only be obtained from cedar trees with lights. The golden ones appeared the least for me. Meanwhile, I had no trouble finding red ornaments. Getting the material for the frozen set is also a pain.

Edit: actually, on second thought we might need to create another thread for that at The Airport, so this thread isn’t bombarded with “i need...” responses. Idk

Right now I only have the festive tree standard size diy.
I figured for those of us that have/get the diys for any of the festive trees and if they want to be listed as people that can craft : I could add their name in the OP so people can pm separately for help.
People would still supply their own materials I would think. It’s only 3 red/blue 2 gold for standard and 6 red/blue 4 gold on the big tree.

I didn’t know the ornaments were difficult to obtain, I guess once we actually get into the season and if it seems to be a real issue where people can’t get trees we could certainly make the airport topic earlier or just at the start of December if people would like to help and assist one another on a bigger scale! Let me know what you all prefer on that!

I can def see them doing a design a Christmas theme room submission or something. But I figured this would be cute to specifically leave the gifts under people’s trees.

I’m not sure if I’ve seen a gift exchange orchestrated by the staff though? But tbf I’m not the best on keeping up with the events so maybe they do.

If they have in the past let me know! Definitely don’t need to make two haha.

I'm sorry. I think that I overstated the level of difficulty for getting ornaments. Loosely speaking, it's like getting acorns and pinecones. Not too hard, but very annoying after a while, imo. The hardest part for any event would be getting the DIYs.

Although it's too early to say if this event will be held, I will like to volunteer in crafting and gathering material. I only need 2 more DIYs for the winter seasonal and a couple more forthe Frozen set.

I'll start gathering the material, just in case.

Understandable! I definitely don’t think anyone has to go all out in decorating if they prefer not to especially with the diy sets. I know some people love to and make some pretty amazing concepts too. So it’s whatever anyone wants to do. Though I can equally see how it may be nice to coordinate for items in catalogs as well people may want for decorating but not have in theirs.

I definitely appreciate anyone that wants to help and be listed so thank you in advance!

I did update the poll to add some options on the topic dates. It should have an option for everyone to change your poll answer if you want to select a second answer on date preferences! It does seem like we have at least 10 people interested which is great!

Assuming there isn’t a heavy preference, I think it would be simple to just toss the topic up in the airport on the 1st and let people visit/help each other until the week on the exchange.

I think the only thing that would make me not want to proceed is if anyone does remember if the staff in the past did do a gift exchange in their holiday events. I don’t remember it, but I don’t want to have too many similar exchanges for people to have to remember.

I think it sounds a lovely idea if anyone needs Christmas items crafted I would be happy to do this. I would need to ask for the materials to be provided I’m afraid but I have all the festive diys.
