Would you eat a dog

It's ingrained into my brain that cats and dogs are pets so no, I would feel uncomfortable eating them, but I don't think there's anything objectively morally wrong with eating them if you're okay with eating other animals. They're all animals, it just depends on what value you/your culture assigns them.

You do realize if you eat meats at all you?re not a vegan, right? There are plenty of substitutes for protein that exist.

EDIT: Reminds me of that one sketch from Robot Chicken where it?s literally just a statement to others to not eat meat. Give me a break. Either eat meat or do not, but it definitely does not put you above or below other people. Nothing does.

I'm not fully vegan, I'm just slowly moving towards a plant based diet. Not necessarily for moral reaons, I'm really quite lax about the whole thing. So I don't consider myself morally above anyone else, and I'm not sure how my statement made you think I was in some way.

I apologize. The first part of that comment was just a question asking if you knew, and the second part was not necessarily directed at you, but just vegans in general. But that’s a good and healthy thing you’re doing, so keep it up. :D

Oh ok. Heehee, I actually dislike that mentality too, that's why I hesitate to say I try to be "vegan". Because I don't really follow the moral philosophy of it. I think it's silly to judge someone based on what they eat, and to think you're better than someone based on diet. I hope my post didn't sound disdainful to meat eaters because I'm not, I still eat it from time to time. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating meat.
But if anyone has eaten dog, what's it taste like? Or to high jack the thread, what's the "weirdest/most exotic" meat you've eaten?

Hahaha, it’s okay. Yeah, I don’t think people should be judged for something as silly as what they eat. If it’s edible, they can choose to eat or not to eat it.

I’ve never had dog, but from someone mentioning how meaty dogs taste, I imagine I would enjoy it. The most exotic meat I’ve had is probably liver. Did not like it at all.

In fact, octopus gut and liver are the only two meats in the world I will not eat.

So I saw one of those petitions to stop the chinese dog meat festival and I was really hungry and one of the dishes they pictured looked really good. I mentioned it the other day in the tbt discord (before I got banned), and a lot of people had a negative reaction.

That's probably because they torture the heck out of those dogs before they eat them. At least from what I've seen, it doesn't look humane. Reminded me of the dolphin purge in Japan, which is also pretty brutal. I get its a cultural thing but if its mostly for ceremony and not really for food anymore, then why even bother? Or at least do it in a humane way.

But to answer your question, yes I'd try it depending on the circumstance.

i looked it up and it looks sort of good, i guess i would eat it depending where the dog came from. then again eating a dog would be a little weird since i own a dog, so i don’t think i would eat it.

I definitely wouldn't, but I'm a vegetarian anyway, so. Although, even way back when I did eat meat, I only ate birds and fish, never other mammals.

I’m a vegetarian, but even if I did I wouldn’t. I can’t imagine eating a predatory creature would be very healthy especially a dog they would probably be full of parasites and could make you sick if not cooked correctly. I also can’t imagine the kind of living conditions these dogs have before getting eaten.

I'd only eat a dog in the instance of self-preservation. Can't see myself wanting to try dog meat otherwise.

Absolutely not! There are many animals that I refuse to eat and dogs are high on that list. From what I have seen, the way they treat those dogs is extremely inhumane and I would never support that. I've even heard that some of the dogs may be stolen pets. It's just a terrible thing.
