It’s pretty cute but it’s definitely not my style. I have a sort of small town-like theme going on so I can use some of the more rural looking items while also using city scape items (like the palm tree lights...I love them, and they don’t fit with cottagecore)
I feel totally the same as you! It was the same for me with for example Japanese themed islands. While I totally like the theme and the aesthetics and so on, it's just so suffocating to see the same over and over and over again on Youtube for example. I love natural/forest-y aesthetics and cottagecore, but at this point 90% of the islands on tumblr/reddit/youtube are cottagecore-themed?
I love cottagecore! I have like a semi-cottagecore island where I didn’t commit 100% to having everything cottagecore because I still want to use cool furniture items, but the overarching theme I use is pretty foresty and wooden!
I think any theme is cool if you commit to it bc decorating your island takes FOREVER so I don’t rly have any opinions on other people’s islands!
Ok I have strong opinions on this! It is starting to feel a bit "basic" like the island equivalent of a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Nothing wrong with PSLs but it sort of feels like the "it" thing that people do to follow a trend just to be trendy, and that kind of gets annoying. Also, while some cottagecore islands I've seen are downright stunning, there are quite a few out there that just seem like claustrophobic beige and white junkyards. I hate islands that have so much clutter on them that it's hard to move around and actually play the game (catch bugs, find fossils, roll snowballs, etc.) and some of the cottagecore photos/tours I've seen are densely packed with random pieces of furniture outdoors, merely because they fit the color palette they're going for, not because the item actually makes sense for the context. Like at first it might seem charming, and then I look closer and I am wondering why there is an alarm clock placed in the middle of a forest along with a bunch of unrelated furniture. Also the cottagecore IG / Twitter world is a bit overwhelming and there are some overinflated egos on there trying to be influencers, which makes me gag a bit. Ok, I'll stop now.
I've never come across the term until now, and had to Google to see what it means.
My island is mostly forest themed, but I'm not sure it fits this aesthetic other than in a few places. The colour palette for my flowers is white, yellow, purple and green, so I think that seems too much based on what I can see of this style.
It looks cool enough to me, though.
Judging by some of the other comments, the fact I don't use social media might be making me more tolerant of it, though.
I like cottagecore, there are some elements that are really nice. But I see it SO OFTEN, it gets repetitive and I don't like it as much. After a while it gets boring seeing the same theme done for islands, sometimes they almost look the same.
Not to say I probably haven't done some cottagecore elements in any of my previous towns/somewhere on my island, but I couldn't see myself do an ENTIRE island like that. I have too many interests.
I like cottagecore but I’m going for a wilderness theme. If I get my own island I’m probably going to have my small residential area be cottagecore while the majority of my island is completely overgrown.
Beautiful. I love the vibe; the greenery and mysticism really work well with the idea of the "deserted island" we were all flown to when we started the game. Really wish I had the bandwidth to be able to create my own cottagecore island.
I can't blame people who are sick of it because of how widespread it has become but I absolutely love it. idk if I can call my island cottagecore (I feel like it's not pretty enough to earn that title, or something :'D), but it's the vibe I went for and I had a blast with the terraforming. being able to just put cliffs and waterfalls sort of randomly without following strict rules was so much fun.
It's definitely a whimsical style, if I had any sort of creativity, my island would've looked just like that.... but now I have another idea for a different theme in mind so I'll just appreciate that magical theme from far away. I also feel that many things are "overdone" because of how easy it is to share ideas online and for people to take inspo from them, which is ok.
I think they're super cute and most of the ones I've seen are just so creative!
But I feel like it's also a lot of work and I'm lazy, so it's not for my island haha.
I've never heard of cottagecore until very early on after New Horizons came out. I think they look really nice, and when I first saw them in New Horizons, I became depressed because I was comparing my island which was going somewhere at the time, to those cottagecore ones. They are overdone, though. I think the same about the zen themed islands. They look beautiful, but they're overdone. So I'm more intrigued by islands that are neither of those.
I've always appreciated the natural/foresty look, but I prefer it slightly less adorned/"magical" than cottagecore would have it. All those patterns everywhere just look kinda annoying. Done well, they're nice to look at, but I'm happy to keep a cleaner look on my island in those natural sections.
It's cute. I'm going for a natural island and part of it is going to look like cottagecore but not all of it. I see it a lot but I'm going to going to hate it for being popular. I don't have the energy to do that anymore.
