dang, that must be scary. I remember when i was a little kid i had one of those tiny turtles (that should be the name of some sprout show lol) and it escaped from its aquarium thing.. we found it dead under the couch cushion.
what the actual heck?? thats one of the reasons why it can be really hard to care for small pets ;-;

we had hamsters when I was little.... they were my sisters not mine! for the record.... they all got out, we found a little skelton outside our house after that winter
