Are you Pro-Choice or Pro-Life?

I personally am pro-choice. I'm not gonna tell someone what they should and shouldn't do with their child/body. Especially in a situation where it could endanger the mother, the child, or even both.

Though I do find it ridiculous when someone is perfectly capable of at least having the child (and maybe putting them up for adoption) and they still go and kill em. Like wtf that's a jerk move.

something i find interesting about the "if it was rape" argument is how will you know if it was rape? could you just say "yo i was raped" and get an abortion or would you have to prove it in any way, like with evidence from court or hospital? because if you would just be able to say that you were raped that's a neat loophole for anyone who wants an abortion. but many victims of rape don't go to a hospital directly after it happens, and a terrifyingly high amount of rape cases never get solved and never lead to someone getting convicted, even if a rape happened. so how exactly would you want it to work?

To answer that, IMO, the person who was raped should receive GOOD psychological counseling or be able to talk to another person about it. After that, they would simply have to prove their case (which shouldn’t be too difficult if it actually happened), and they would be given the option to abort. This would be done pretty quickly, within the course of weeks though, to make sure they still have time to abort after all is said and done. I hope that helps explain things further. :)

A mix of both. It honestly depends on the situation on which side I choose to stay on.

I am pro choice at any stage in the pregnancy, for any reason. I believe that if a woman doesn't want to be pregnant, she should have the right to end the pregnancy safely. If I got pregnant now, I would have an abortion as early as possible. I am not in a position financially or emotionally to raise a child.

My ex's mother said she supported abortion, until I said I believe a woman should be able to abort without telling the father. She said "But it's HIS baby too!" I wish I had said "What about rape victims"?, but knowing how crazy she is, she probably would have said the same thing. She was.... nuts.

Pro-choice, because you really don’t know most of the time. As in, the mother might not be physically ready.

????????????
you really dont have any idea about how any of that works do you

even if you look aside from the fact that it'd be horrible for the raped person to go through all of that and that the process for reporting it often is too traumatizing for victims to even report it, that many victims don't want to tell anyone due to an understandable fear of people being terrible about it, that it adds to how victims of sa need to prove to others that they actually have been abused* and that it is disgusting that someone has to prove that they were violated in order to get access to things they already should have access to, it's a terrible idea from a practical point of view. there'd be much more administration involved, a bigger need for support for families that if abortion would have been an option wouldn't have existed, police investigations and court orders and all that would have to be rushed for it to be finished in time and it'd overall just suck.
but i guess fewer people would get abortions and that's all that really matters in the end to people who claim to be pro life because a fetus shouldn't have to suffer and miss out on life.

people should be able to get free abortions no questions asked.

*this is very separate from anything happening in court where there has to be evidence beyond reasonable doubt because there is a risk that someone innocent is convicted. when people believe victims of abuse there is no risk of someone innocent being put in prison and there's a very big difference between something being made up and something not having enough evidence that it happened (even if sex can be proven How Do We Know It Wasn't Consensual :^) checkmate feminists) for someone to be convicted. maybe there should be a need for proof if you want to join a rape support group too, that'd be great! because sa is always this black and white thing and if something has happened it can be proven 100% of the time. easy!

(also it's funny that you think this process would be quick enough for it to be a viable option. many people don't notice that they are pregnant until after a few weeks, then they might decide to abort and reach out to an abortion clinic a bit later, then they somehow need to prove that they were raped and get all of that approved and whatever and sent to the clinic so they can book an appointment and get it done. all of that within at most 24 weeks. the later you wait to abort the bigger (and more risky and straining for the patient) the procedure is. besides it can be terrible to be pregnant even if you want to be pregnant, but especially if you're pregnant due to a traumatic incident that's like.... not great 4 recovery fam.)

I hope that helps explain things further. :^)

lmao i had the funniest discussion about this with a guy in my school, he was like "uwu men can't choose if they want children and that's sexist, they should have a say in the abortion and be able to just adopt the child when it's born if the mother doesn't want it" and absolutely wouldn't understand how that would oppress the pregnant person's right to their own body, then after a while i went a bit overboard and said that i wanted a necklace made of teeth and he had teeth so he should give them to me because i want them for my necklace which made the teacher step in and be like "great guys umm see you on friday!".

It actually offensive to insult the military like that. And it's off-topic since it's not related to abortions. Plus, if you care about the innocent killed by our soldiers, you should also care about the innocent killed by the evil forces our soldiers are targeting.

And those reasons you listed are the reasons why I'm against it. While I believe abortion is murder, some of these reasons may turn out to be murder out of laziness.

Reasons to have an abortion (and when I support it):
- Mother is going to die - Yes
- Baby cannot survive no matter what - Yes
- Incest/Inbred - Yes
- Rape - Yes
- Too young - Maybe
- Not mature enough - Maybe
- Too poor to have children - Maybe
- Having children can disrupt jobs - Maybe not
- Unstable relationship and don't want a pregnancy - Maybe not
- Mature enough, but don't want children at the time - No
- Don't want kids - No
- Didn't want a girl and wanted a boy instead and vice versa - Definitely no

It's not just about what reasons they should be legal for. Those are the reasons of when I will support it or not, like if I should pay for it even when I'm not a patient or insurer.

i don't care if it's offensive to insult the military, they suck. and it's not off topic since it is hypocrisy for you to not want your taxes to go to abortion because it is murder but the billions that go to the military are fine because that's funding patriotic murder of people in other countries. it shows that it's not really human lives you care about, you just don't like abortions and want to make it difficult for people to decide what happens to their bodies.

i don't care if someone had unprotected sex fully knowing that they could get pregnant, they still shouldn't have to be pregnant and then take care of a child for 18 years because of their mistake. people do stupid things all the time but they will still be treated even though they broke their arm while wrestling with a bear for fun. same thing with abortion, yeah you should use protection if you don't want kids but you still should be able to get an abortion if you get pregnant from your risky sex.

Abortion should be legal period. NO ONE has the right to tell ANYONE what they can and can?t do with their body. I don?t understand why this is such a hard concept to grasp. Literally no one?s opinions matter in this situation. The only person that should matter is the one deciding wether or not to get an abortion and THATS IT. Plus, most of the people making these decisions are definitely basing it off their RELIGIOUS beliefs. What happened to separation of church and state?

Then improve the process? If the administration of it by the government is too much of a hassle, surely there’s an easier and faster way for it to be done, no?

Honestly, this is why I don’t reply to threads that have anything political about them in them. Politics is just something where there’s always sides that disagree, and very rarely does the result help anyone out. I’m done with this conversation. Thanks for explaining all of that.

lmao ok so you dont like politics because people will disagree with you when you say that people should just do something that isn't realistic at all? ok
like you're completely missing my point if you think we can just "improve the process" and things will be fine because with your idea things will never be close to even be acceptable

Unsurprisingly, looks like there are people on here who can't respect others' opinions.

I won't say which side I am on, but I can understand why someone would think one way or someone else would thing the other way regardless of whether I agree with it or not.

Pro-choice obviously. Or rather, abortion should always be legal and always an option and never restricted or forbidden as it is in many places. I mean I get you don't do it in week 32 unless there is some fatal condition but yeah glad I don't live in Malta or El Salvador... Why some people are pro-lifers are beyond my mind...

access to abortion and birth control is a human right, people have the right to decide what happens to their own body.

Ikr.. People who says it's the dad's opinion that should count as much just no.. you have no control what happens so just shut the heck up.

Let's keep this discussion civil. This is The Bell Tree Forums, not The Red Hen Restaurant.

Now if I had to choose between overturning Roe v Wade or making the Hyde Amendment permanent, I would choose the latter. Why? Because the law should stay out of abortion completely. That means, no bans on abortion, no bans on insurance coverage, no collecting taxes to fund abortions, no birth control coverage mandates, nothing. It should be left to the people to decide on that, not the law.

Except a lot of people specifically in US and Catholic countries would probably not give a penny unless they all suddenly turned pro-choice people. Also letting it all up to people would probably make it even worse. I mean it's bad enough with all the conservatives everywhere.

Unless they are lucky to have lots of pro-choice people in whatever state that could make it their own. I mean yeah with Trump government would probably be pro-life, especially with that ass judge that came into power recently.. seriously that country is just BS on those issues right now. Just elect someone who actually knows what they are doing and don't get dissatisfaction votes.

Brett Kavanaugh has not been confirmed. The Senate will vote on his confirmation this September. If the majority agrees, he will become a justice.

Or are you referring to Neil Gorsuch?

I'm pro-choice, I just personally feel not my body not my life. So why should I make someone keep a child based on what I believe in.

Anyone that conservative that wants to be just get rid of a human right. And yeah still with Trump the first guy probs have a decent chance o_o

But yeah within threatened countries and place where it's illegal even to have a miscarriage it's too slow making a change. Just because you happen to be able to carry a child doesn't mean you should be punished for it nor be forced to carry it all the way. And with people these days solely relying on dumb apps for birth control good game people, good game

While I am pro choice (for any reason, not just rape, etc.) and tend to be more liberal/democratic, I do think we rely on the government way too much. People who are pro choice should donate money and volunteer to help those seeking abortion. Help raise money to cover the cost of the procedure, expenses to get to the clinic if they need to travel, and donate to clinics themselves. People who are pro life should donate and volunteer to help those who decide to keep the baby. Help cover the cost of the pregnancy and birth, parenting classes and wellness (and better safe sex education!) I am a firm believer of instead of trying to get rid of something you don't like, use your time and money to help what you do believe in. I understand that is not possible to take care of everyone this way, so I do believe in welfare and assistance programs, but I also think a lot of citizens need to step up and help out too (I'm not aiming that at anyone on here, just everyone in general).

One problem with defunding clinics that provide abortions is that these clinics do so much more. When these clinic lose government money, they can't provide care for mammograms, pap smears, yearly check up, etc. Also, most of these clinics are geared for lower income women/families so it widens the disparity between wealthy and poor. My local Planned Parenthood lost their funding and shut down about a year after the law passed. Now there's just one low income ob/gyn and it's over booked and under staffed. Lots of women are going without proper health care now.

And yes, making abortions only legal in the case of rape would be crazy hard to uphold and process. It can be incredibly difficult to prove you were raped. Many people still believe if you were drunk it's not rape, if you didn't fight back hard enough it's not rape, if it's your partner/spouse it's not rape. A judge actually lessened a young man's sentence because the victim "looked chronologically older than her age". If we enact a law about abortion in the case of rape, we need a serious overhaul of society's perception of rape, and we need to end victim blaming.

So all in all, I'm pro choice and I believe a women should have access to an abortion for any reason they see fit, I don't agree with the case by case basis.
