I voted for cats but I think when it comes to the question of if one is better than other, that is rather subjective; for instance: it depends on what you are looking for in a pet too or maybe in some cases if you had good or bad experiences with one type of pet. I probably should have voted neither even though I like cats significantly more.

My personal preference is cats because I’ve never had a bad experience with cats; cats are my best friends, family and my biggest source of comfort. I could honestly talk about cats all day, I love them so much; their purr and warmth is the most comforting thing to me.

I like well behaved and trained dogs; I don’t like it when dogs jump on me when they’re excited. I don’t mind if a friend’s dog does on a rare occasion or from time to time since it makes me happy to know they are happy to see me), but it frightens me a little when bigger dogs do that; it started when a friend in elementary or middle school boxer jumped on me. I’m not going into the details of what I don’t like about dogs since there are a lot of things I don’t like but I still like them; I just wouldn’t want them as a pet. The things I don’t like about them also doesn’t make them a worse pet and the things I like doesn’t necessarily make them a better (same with cats).

For me personally, cats are better for me since I can barely take care of myself and a dog takes a lot of work. But just because I prefer a cat does not make dogs a worse pet and a cat better; it just means for me having a cat would make more sense and be more beneficial. Cats can take care of themselves; they just need food, water, litter box, toys & scratching post. and to be taken care of if sick. Playing with cats to me is more fun as well since it involves things I’m completely comfortable doing (and doesn’t involve going outside).
