I recently watched a video where a bunch of people who never tried root beer before tried it for the first time, and they all thought it was disgusting. I was really shocked by this, because I grew up with root beer and it's one of my favourite types of pop. So I'm curious what the general consensus is!

I do think the first few times I've tried it as a kid, I thought it was disgusting. It might just be somewhat of a shocking taste. I love rootbeer now and it's actually the only kind of soda that I will even drink anymore.

yes! i love root beer, it's always been one of my favorite sodas. the only person in my immediate family that doesn't like it is my mom.
i also find it shocking a lot of people don't like it. i heard once that a lot of people in japan hate root beer, and it's like western cultures' view of black licorice. idk how true this is, but wow!

Good grief.
I love it. I don't love it as much as Coke but it's still great, and I can never pass up a root beer float (although Coke floats and orange floats are also major weaknesses of mine).

When I was a kid I lived near an A&W drive-in restaurant where they'd come outside and latch a tray on to the car window and take your order(car windows were a lot sturdier back then).They served their root beer in these giant mugs that weighed a ton but it was the best root beer I've ever had.

it's a kind of sassafrass soda, sometimes with vanilla added, so it's not anything at all like ginger beer or ginger ale. but some are made with sarsparilla, and Sarsi or HeySong or other sarsparilla sodas are similar to root beer but perhaps rootbeer is sweeter. the only other soda i can think of remotely in that flavor profile is maybe Dr Pepper

Ah so many memories with this! My parents would take me to A&W for root beer floats and it was always so exciting. Truly the best root beer there is.
To answer the question, YES I love root beer. I still drink it pretty regularly.

I've actually only been to one of those, and it was when I was visiting the Bowling Green, Kentucky, area back in June 2016. Unfortunately, where I've lived in Mississippi and Alabama, they don't seem to really exist...

I still love Root Beer today, but I despise the A&W Brand a tiny bit.
Why? Because two years ago, my dad bought Italian ice from a vendor in front of our elementary school. I decided to get the A&W Root Beer ice, because it was mostly the only flavor I THOUGHT I would like. The ice ended up tasting the worst thing you could imagine, and I didn’t even touch root beer for the next two years until just a couple of weeks ago. I’d rather drink a different root beer rather than A&W. Don’t remember the last time i’ve ever had a root beer float....

Root beer is my absolute favorite soda. After a rough day, a ice cold diet root beer and some animal crossing is all I need to relax.
