Features that were removed from the game since Launch (2020)

I saw that video.

Though about the part where the guy said third level: Did he mean FOURTH level?

Oh, I definitely heard about the islands containing hybrid flowers being taken out a few weeks after New Horizons came out. It was such an odd decision.

Nintendo did numerous odd things with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. A good amount of it was not good. One move that was foolish was reducing the maximum monthly interest in bells from 99,999 to 9,999. There was no good to doing that. Some people, in the early period following the game’s release, had complaints and, in reality, much of them were frivolous. And Nintendo listened to them.

It's really silly that Nintendo decided to cut content out of the game when the game itself is already lacking in content as it is.

Yeah interest is a joke now. They also nerfed the spawn of certain fish and bugs to the point where you never saw them. And the hybrid islands were one of the reasons I actually used the Nook islands. I have no incentive to go there now.

They also clearly had the roost planned for launch or close to it. Otherwise why would they have had coffee and Brewster/Roost dialogue and then immediately cut it out. Has anyone seen the exact same dialogue come back now that Brewster is back? If not that is more cut content.

Which often makes me wonder if hide and seek was considered at one point with how Peppy villagers comment that they played H&S by themselves. Did they forget to cut that out?

I have a feeling that some of the things wouldn't be removed (or at least very soon) if people weren't constantly datamining ACNH. My memory is a little vague here, but Nintendo usually reacted to those discoveries made by the players and quickly removed them afterward.

Also, I hate the GaaS model for intentionally holding back content as it impacts so many other games as well (I'm dealing with this annoyance in Gran Turismo 7 atm). We paid a full price for ACNH and we deserve to have a lot of content packed into it, especially when it's lacking compared to its predecessors.

But even so it almost took them 2 years to bring back the Roost. That's kind of a long time to be holding that place-holder in place and not doing anything about it. I get it. The pandemic. But I feel like we give Nintendo a free pass on that while we tear apart other lesser known studios a new one for doing the same stuff.

And lets not forget the game costed $60 when it first came out. That still doesn't excuse them for holding back content and then adding in months later. They seem to be doing that pretty often with their other games.

But not to the extent of NH at least. Most of the other games aren't geared towards progressiveness like Animal Crossing is. So it's not as jarring to not have some Mario Golf/Mario Soccer casts being withheld compared to what was withheld with a progress-influenced game like NH/AC.

It's sad that the hybrid islands were nerfed because it would be so easy to get hybrids if they were in the game! I'm sure if Nintendo left it in, there would be a lot more people playing it. Honestly, NH was lacking some content from the get go, so why did they cut some of it?

I didn't start the game until the hybrid flower island and Nature Day stuff was removed. What a shame since I love flower breeding and nature stuff. Please patch them back in Nintendo. 😢

Ugh, tell me about it; the game wasn't out for even half as long as, say, Smash Bros. Ultimate; they could have at least kept ACNH alive for, like, two thirds or three fourths the length that Smash Bros. was.

Never really considered that. That's a really good perspective. I know Smash up until 2020 was the bigger franchise, but they made bank with the pandemic for NH and should've honestly took advantage of that instead of sleeping on it.

Them cutting the brown version of the Museum is kinda sad to me. My guess is because of how many days your Museum would be under construction, but I know old Animal Crossing games wouldn't have been shy about making people wait for things. If they had kept the brown version of the Museum the progression would have been:
Day 1: Place Blathers tent
Day 2: Tent appears (give him enough specimens to progress)
Day 3: Under construction
Day 4: Brown Museum (give him a piece of art to progress)
Day 5: Under construction
Day 6: Art wing of the museum added (help him find Brewster to progress)
Day 7: Under construction
Day 8: Final museum
I'm not actually sure you can get Brewster right after getting the art wing, but still, I think Nintendo just felt bad making people potentially wait through 3 under constructions days one right after the next. However, I stand by that old games would have had no problem making you wait.

Also, I'm pretty sure in one of the first updates they dramatically changed how bugs spawning worked. It used to be that if a bug appeared in multiple months, their spawn rate was potentially different for each month that they appeared. Then they released some update and it made all bugs keep their spawn rates the same for all the months they could be found in. It's not the worst thing, but definitely strange that they changed this.

@Ganucci I actually liked it. People could time travel if they don't want to wait. I loved that sense of progression in the other games. People expect immediate gratification so much these days that Animal Crossing was a breath of fresh air in that regard.

Okay, so if Nintendo took out the hybrid islands and presumably removed nature day to prevent farming Nook Miles quickly(?) and the like why does it actually matter if players farm them quickly, like maybe they didn't want people to farm everything quickly so then they would get bored but like why does it matter how fast people obtain items in the game if they're just having fun isn't that all that matters? Who cares if they get stuff quickly Nature day was cool and I never got to do it nor go to the hybrid islands.
