Have you ever kept merch of something that you're not a fan of anymore?

Oh for sure! As long as it's not taking up too much space, and as long as I still have good memories attached to that fan experience.

When I was very young, I loved the Wiggles. They were my first concert, actually! My parents bought me a little seat cushion from their show, and I still have it. They made up so much of my childhood...

I also have a 5SOS bracelet from a concert of theirs I went to. It was lots of fun! I was never really fully immersed in fandom, I just liked their music, but that Rolling Stone article of theirs kind of soured me from the band for a long time.

Also, I'm the proud owner of all three High School Musical CDs, DVDs, and various merch items from Band-Aids to t-shirts, which is super nostalgic. Man, I still remember going to the movie theatre with a friend of mine and absolutely jamming out to HSM3! Those were the days!

I only really have merch from a girlband that doesn't exist anymore, but I still like their songs. All my Nintendo stuff is current.

I remember having a wiggle car before! My sisters loved them when they were so young!

not exactly merch but i purchased a jeffree star palette before i found out how uh,, he’s really not that great of a person LMAO. so,, im not a fan of him anymore but i’m keeping the palette, regardless, since it was $50 and that’s a lot of money to just wash down the drain aha

If I'm not a fan of a certain movie, anime or manga series, I don't buy the merchandise. If I'm a fan, I will buy merchandise. And whatever merchandise I acquire will always remain with me. (I told my husband that, in the event of my death, don't just throw everything out. Some of my stuff are collectibles and can be sold for money. )

I have One Piece figures on my bookshelf. Mostly of Luffy, Zoro, Sanji and Trafalgar Law. Also a figure of Houzuki from Houzuki no Reitetsu, a Kaiyodo figure of Gungrave, a Revoltech figure of Professor Layton, a figure of Ginko from Mushishi, a limited edition bust of Wolverine from Days of Future Past (comic version), standing acrylic figures from Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Kimetsu no Yaiba, and nendoroid figures of Luffy, Zoro, Houzuki, L from Death Note, Kogami Shinya from Psycho Pass and Tora from Ushio to Tora. Too many DVDs, CDs, comic books and artbooks to name. o_O

I think I still have one Disney pin in my drawer somewhere. It is sort of that thing you grow out of, but all your relatives still get you the stuff decades later since you liked it when you were 10. Nowadays I would not even want to support Disney with a ten foot pole.

not really? i have a bunch of band shirts that i dont really listen to anymore but i still like them, the ones i really grew out of figuratively and literally are in the trash

If you're a hockey person you probably might get this but...

I have a San Jose Sharks shirt from years ago....

I don't like them anymore lol I moved on to the Las Vegas Golden Knights cuz I can't stand the Shark's fanbase anymore

Also I have a kpop album from LOONA back when I was a really big fan of them. I still like them but I'm not as crazy about them anymore. I might get burned at this stake for this but the songs for Hi High and [+ +] was better than Butterfly and [x x]. The "dark" concept they were going for wasn't my cup of tea.

I'm actually kind of going through this right now. 5 years ago a friend of mine introduced me to Tales of Symphonia. I fell in love with the game, started collecting bits and pieces of merch, and now we no longer talk so holding onto this stuff only invokes painful memories for me. Do I still like the game? Yeah... I can't bring myself to not like it, it is genuinely a great experience. But now it's unfortunately tied to someone I will likely never speak to again, so I can't see myself ever re-visiting it in the future. I've been trying to sell my stuff lately, hopefully it goes soon and I no longer have to look at it.

It's so easy to buy merch when you're riding the high after finishing a show or game. Feels great at the time, but it can be difficult to deal with some years down the line if your tastes change or if you relate it to a certain period in your life, a bit like music I guess.

Oml I get that feeling so much. A really good friend of mine actually introduced me to Animal Grossing and if it wasn't for her, I probably would have never been interested in this series. One day she said she would give up social media and her phone as fasting for Lent and she never talked to me again after that. The last I heard from her is when a friend of mine "Kylie"(using this name as a placeholder for future reference) text messaged her and they said she would talk to me again soon. That has been more than a year ago and I haven't heard from her. I don't know what happened to her or where she is. It doesn't help that I also stopped being friends with 'Kylie' a while ago because they started becoming sorta toxic later on so I have absolutely no ways to being able to talk to them again.

I got the same feeling when I got Animal Crossing New Horizons because I remember we used to play New Leaf together and she was there for me when I first started, and it feels super weird that now I'm starting this new journey by myself. I guess it really was "New Horizons" for me.

Anyways, I hope things do end well for you later on and something great might happen in the future. Anything can happen.

ALL the time. I have a ton of manga and CDs from older fandoms. I don't read or listen to those CDs as much anymore, and I'm thinking of donating some of them to my alma mater's foreign languages collection.

So much. I moved out of my parents a while ago but I have a lot of my merch in storage there. Lots of buttons and art work from conventions. Some of the art is not related to anything and is just pretty art that I want to frame and put up at some point.

So much pokemon stuff and various mangas. I kept some of the shorter ones and complete series. Some shirts but I have gotten rid of most of it because of the wear and tear.

I'm also a lot more selective about the merch I buy now because who knows if/when I'm going to stop liking something. I tend to buy more functional stuff. Functional or not, I selective about the design and artwork too. I like the more subtle nods to stuff I like. For example this shirt from Uniqlo.

I thought really hard on this one and couldn't really think of anything. A lot of toys I got as a kid involved like Star Wars and Sonic which I still collect to this day. Anything else I've collected with my own money or got as a gift I still am a fan of in some way or another. It's really hard for me to turn on a series. I like being reminded of when I was more into it and the fun I had with it.

Yeah, this is basically me. Anything I buy or want I make sure I really like and after years have passed I always still like it. I don’t waste my time with things I have a feeling will just bring me pain later to still have. Usually I either pass on those things or get rid of them.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I appreciate you sharing your story, it definitely hurts to lose a close friend and have absolutely no way to contact them. I hope you're able to move on to enjoy NH, and make new memories and associations with the game. Who knows, maybe in the future she'll find you again and reach out to you!

Thanks a lot for the kind words. I hope you and your friend, wherever she is now, are doing well and that you have contact again soon. You're absolutely right in that anything can happen, so long as they know where to look and we leave the door open for them, we may find them again.

I can’t say I do, only because I don’t really own much stuff to begin with. I consider myself to be a minimalist, so I only have things that serve a purpose for me. Of course I have a few items of sentimental value that having meaning to me, but it’s not many.

I have some Miraculous Ladybug merch that I still like and want to keep around like some shirts and a backpack. I want to sell my other merch of it like keychains and pins but I probably won't be able to.

I was very obsessed with Neopets when I was a child. I'm not anymore. I rarely even go back to the website now. However, I've managed to convince myself that I still want to collect the plushies, which I found a ton of at thrift stores over the years... I couldn't possibly get rid of those.

I do this thing that when I get into something, I really get obsessed with it and tend to deck out my room with merch and fanart and stuff. And then months to a year later I'm over it and do it all again with my new obsession...it's an endless cycle that causes me to have a lot of stuff I'm not as into anymore lol.

for sure, mostly old clothing. i have shirts of homestuck, dr who, danganronpa, and black butler from when i was like 14. i don't INTEND to keep them i just haven't bothered to do anything with them yet... i also have like 3 dr who sonic screwdrivers sitting in a bin somewhere. lots of buttons from when i would trade buttons at anime conventions too
