Straightforward question: how do you feel when you need to replace a device?

I'm usually sad when I need to replace a phone or laptop, because I grow very attached to my devices. It is nice to get a newer model but I'm usually happy with what I have and don't replace until absolutely required.

I feel very stressed out when it comes to needing a new device! If it's a phone or laptop in particular, at least. They cost so much which makes me nervous about buying a bad one. Laptops are really tricky in this area - I find myself spiraling reading and watching countless reviews and I'm never satisfied.

I also don't like having to shuffle things onto a new phone or leave the memories behind. And so I still have my laptop from.... 2016 I think?

When it comes to the idea of updating my (original, bad battery life) Switch to the Switch 2 though, that's exciting. That upgrade is a lot more to the point which makes it easier for me.

I'm very happy of course, with new laptops. And the reason is because my old laptops always have something wrong with them that I just can't fix on my own. Thankfully those types of issues only happen every 4 years. The only things I am ever sad about my old laptops is when I didn't/couldn't save my old files onto my new laptop.

About my phone, it only happened once. My old phone got hit with the "It wants to click on buttons by itself" issue, and I thought someone hacked into it. So I got a new phone, but sadly everything I had saved on the old phone was gone, with Pocket Camp included. I had to start that over, meaning the limited time items that you can't get in Complete I am unable to obtain.

Console upgrades are definitely exciting! They're the exception to the rule for me.

Changing devices stresses me out super bad, so I only do it when I really really have to ahaha ;u; Even though I have like a bajillion backups, I'm always nervous about something going wrong with data transfers, or things not working on the new device, etc. I can also be pretty resistant to change and sit pretty firmly in the "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" camp when it comes to electronics eheh, so it can take me some time to get used to newer models.

I always wind up putting off upgrades for a long time because of the stress of having to move everything over, but in the end I'm generally glad to have made the upgrade, because by the time I get around to it, I will have really needed something better anyway.

I mean, I'm not happy or sad if I need to replace something. More like I'd rather not because it's an expense I would rather avoid. Some things need replacing from time to time. Toothbrushes, shoes, clothes, ect but devices are very pricey and I'd rather avoid those. So I hold on to my things way longer than most would. I had a laptop from 2008 that I finally just got rid of last year. It took forever to boot it up and doing anything caused it to load for way too long.

I actually learned how to repair a lot of things so I wouldn't have to buy something new. But I took apart this laptop and even after all the different fixes and minor replacements it still wasn't ideal so I took it apart and destroyed it.

I haven't replaced it yet.

I’m indifferent. I recently replaced my old phone that was over four years old a few months ago. I’m happy with the new one.

I don't really care. I'll replace it if it's on its last legs usually, but if there's something wrong with it or it doesn't meet my expectations, I have no problem getting something better.

It usually makes me more stressed than anything, like others have said. I really only do it when I feel like I have to, which is usually when it starts having noticeable performance issues that makes it hard to use on the daily. It's definitely nice to get a new device that performs well, but the process just isn't something I enjoy. I guess part of that has to do with me being someone who doesn't like change/new things. 😅

Sad and overwhelmed.

I said goodbye to our 10+ yo old laptop this past summer, and it made me a bit sad when I realized it was the last time I was seeing that welcome screen. That laptop only started up once in a while, like once a month and took half an hour to load and could crash at any moment, the keyboard wasn't working, but it made me so happy to see that welcome screen and it being alive again....like a little pet.... funny... I haven't threw it away yet, it's all nicely wrapped in his little box like a coffin...Sleeping.

I don't like changing things. 1. it's expensive 2. I have to do a lot of researches about it and will never be fully satisfied, I will get overwhelmed, confused, doubting my choice still the very end and then spend a week regretting it, and then 1 month to get used to it and getting mad because I have to reinstall and transfert everything. That's too hard for my health. Anyway the new computer works very well, so far...

I don't like new things I guess. I get attached to old stuff.

It's fine as long as I can import most of the data to the new one so I'm always careful about that. I usually only end up replacing stuff after experiencing too many performance issues with the old one though.

I usually won't unless I've to, so I mostly feel moot that I've the transfer my data to something else. Thankfully that's become way easier as time went on.

I feel bad because it's going to be expensive, also there are way too many device options so I'll get overwhelmed researching them trying to pick the right one.

Not good. Mostly due to the price tag, but also the time that is spent to decide what to go with next. That can take days for me and that's dumb and unfortunately true.
I avoid it as much as I can.

I feel sad. I liked the old device and made a lot of memories. I keep the old devices even if I get a new one.

That was pretty much me with my 2008 laptop because I hold onto to things until they pretty much won't work at all. And even then, I'll look up tutorials and research to see if I can fix things. I remember replacing the fan, taking apart the entire laptop to add thermal paste to all the right spots, ect. It worked pretty well to keep it going for a few more years, but it still took just as long to start up as yours did.

I like to try to fix things before replacing them. It's a lot of money, especially considering a laptop expense, and so many people just throw things away if it has one minor problem. So many are just so wasteful. I've literally found so many things thrown away that needed just a little bit of work. Someone threw away really big industrial fans because they were covered in food grease. It was caked in them. I took one and all it took was a bottle of spray-nine and cleaner. I dismantled the fan to clean out all the spots. Maybe a $10 expense + an hour of my time. Now I still have a $200 fan someone was too lazy to clean up.

Good luck with your transfer whenever you decide to tackle it. It's weird to make that big of a purchase, but I'm sure the new laptop is making it worth it.

As some others have said, I feel stressed/annoyed when I have to replace a device. The process of transferring photos/files over, re-downloading apps, re-logging into things etc. is super tedious.

I don't get emotionally attached to my old devices, I just hate setting up new ones 😅
