How Many people have NOT Flattened/Reset their islands and/or have no intention of doing so?

Who here is keeping their OG island and doesn't plan on resetting it whatsoever?

understand why people are resetting tbh, I don’t plan to, I never reset my games because I did once in wild world as a kid and regretted it lol, but I am confused why people are resetting and am genuinely curious what resetting has to do with 2.0 lol

For me, I stopped playing for a while and I assume many other people have as well since 2020. So to come back to your island where you don't know where you left off or a terraformed island that you no longer like. It's easier to just start from scratch and unlock everything slowly again.

Well there are several reasons.

Lots of new items might make people want something different from their island than the way they designed it.
Perhaps they don't want to deal with flattening their island.
Perhaps their old name was linked to a theme they no longer want to use.

Some people have not played the game in a while and so don't have a strong attachment to their island any more.
It would be kinda like playing someone else's island. Not really ideal.

For me, I was growing unhappy with the fact I had an island with an airport and fruit I didn't not like, and I was bored of its layout.
Knowing that 2.0 would be such a time sink, I either had to reset now, or live with the things I disliked for the rest of time.
2.0 was the push for me to chose an island layout I loved.

Oh that’s a good point, I hadn’t thought of that, thank you!

Oh I hadn’t thought about people changing what they wanted due to new items, that’s a good point! Luckily I got cherries as my fruit which is what I wanted, and I’m fine with my airport, I have no idea what I’m doing with my town yet but I don’t want to reset so I’ll just have to work through any issues that could arise from layout lol, thank you for giving me an explanation! I was really curious but couldn’t find much about why everyone was resetting and that makes a lot of sense!<3

My main island was my second island that I started when I got the ac switch, I've had it since June 2020. I wouldn't reset because of my catalogue, achievements, and DIYs. I wouldn't flatten either because I had flattened my first island and it never recovered lol, I can only work with small spaces at a time.

Me.

I would never reset simply because there's a lot of lose.
All the DIYS, catalogued items, full critterpedia, and all the progress I have in the game.

Whenever I'm bored with my island, I start changing small sections...one at a time.
I don't feel like I need to reset when I'm bored with my island...that's too much work 😅

I reset my island because I haven't been playing for a while and just came back because of HHP and the 2.0 update. I actually contemplated if I really do wanted to reset because I had a lot of work done in my previous island but I felt disconnected with it that I just really wanted a fresh start and to actually take things slow this time and not time travel and burn out myself from playing.

So far I haven't regret doing so as I'm enjoying playing the game from the start again. I like my map way better tbh (yellow airport, apples, long pier, thicker beaches, big peninsula). I'm really excited to go villager hunting again with the new villagers especially Sasha, he's so cute! And I'm also thinking about doing a new theme for my island since I'm kinda bored with the cottagecore aesthetic that I have going on in my island before but we'll see how it goes in the future as I'm most confident in that style.

I have kept my island around 90% roughly the same landscape wise, just a few more waterfalls here and there. I dont think ive ever felt the need to drastically change landscape. It would be a bit of a shame as it would look like so many others. AC islands are supposed to be unique ✨

There are parts about my island that I don’t love (like the location of resident services) but I would never restart it - I think part of the fun is making difficult areas “work” even if they aren’t ideal or perfect. I’ve had my island since day 1 and I would be really sad to delete 800 hours of progress. However, I know resetting is best for some people and that’s totally okay! I’m not necessarily an advocate for either (flattening vs. resetting), you just have to do what feels right.

I've had the same island since release. While i am remodeling I'm not going to flatten it and I'm certainly not going to restart and lose everything.

If there was a way to move islands and keep my bells/miles/catalog I'd consider that.

Def no. I work so hard on building my cataloge. now that theres more items there is no way i'll be reseting lol

I personally plan on modifying my existing island since the changes I did to my island were predominantly done to enhance the existing geography. I may change some things though in light of the update to make certain parts of my island more useable and to introduce new ideas I have in mind.

ive had my island since march 25 2020! like, almost 2 years. and ive been playing it consistently since then (although i did miss the fall + winter season last year bc of school). ive put so much time into and have become so attached i dont think that i could ever reset. and tbh my island isnt finished yet. and now theres so much new content and new stuff to work towards i like extra couldnt ever reset

I can’t see myself resetting or flattening my island. I tend to get attached to my save files in most games, and hardly ever delete them. (I usually start extra saves instead, though that isn’t practical in this case with one island per Switch, plus I still have plenty to do on my first island).

I know some people like a fresh start, but that doesn’t appeal to me. But I’ve also only ever let one animal move out, and keep much of my town the same with a few seasonal areas and new projects, so I’m not a fan of change.

I love my island an no update is changing that. Plus I’m an adult with a full time job and going to school full time. I barely have time just to do my dailies everyday.

I’ve reset my island after more than one year(had it since the start of the game). I thought about restarting for a long while because I really didn’t like my map layout(resident service, peninsula, secret beach…most of the things you are not able to change). I cared deeply for that island because I got to experience this whole new AC game, it kept me relaxed and stable throughout the several lockdowns we had to undergo in Italy and I loved my villagers a lot too, but I really felt the need to change. The last drop was when I started to time travel like crazy to unlock everything this new update had to offer. So I took the drastic decision and I restarted my game. Now I have the perfect map, everything I have ever wanted from a map, and I made a pact with myself to take things slow. I have no idea how Harv’s island looks like when completed, I’ve never been in the bar of talked to Brewster yet and I’m trying to stay away from any possible spoiler. Im just glad I have so many things waiting for me and I can’t wait to experience all of them!

Nah, building my island took foreverrr and I’m honestly not interested in ever doing that again. I simply updated my island by going through all the added furniture and replacing certain items with new items that fit the spot better. Now I’m done with that I’m not gonna tweak my design ever. I play the game now for the lifesim stuff. Fishing, farming, cooking, chatting to my villagers, getting coffee, getting my fortune, visiting the mystery island by boat, etc.

I haven’t flattened or reset my island and I don’t plan on doing so. I haven’t reset any of the Animal Crossing games I’ve played dating back to the GameCube version, if that tells you anything about me…

no waaaaaay! i'm a severely sentimental human bean, and the fact that i've had this game since launch day is incredibly special to me. with new leaf, i was like 2 years too late. and then i reset my town a few times, and purchased new cartridges, so i have nothing against flattening/resetting/etc.

with nh, i still have a few of my original 5 villagers on my island. genji is one that i've had since i landed. if i ever really want another island, i'm just gonna have to save up and pony up for a new switch lol plus i'm lazy and there's no way i'm going to go through collecting DIYs and grind for nook miles all over again.

I reset my island once before back in January, because flattening just seemed too much work and I'd rather do trades x10000 to get my items back. I've barley played since though so my island is pretty barren, so lots of room for me to make new areas :~)
I don't recommend resetting tho for anyone atm because getting all the old items + new items will take a looooonggg time. If I were to "reset" now I'd flatten. Also working towards unlocking all the beginning upgrades & getting 3 stars will set you back as well
