I'd sent letters quite a bit in past games, but it's very seldom that I do so these days. I'm more likely to send letters while in handheld mode otherwise, I'd have to plug in my keyboard. Using the joystick is such a pain. I was happy to be rid of that since Gamecube.
Do animals care about letters? I get letters even if I don't send any to them, and they don't respond to my letters anyway.
I used to send them fairly regularly in New Leaf but I haven't sent my villagers a single letter in NH.
However my villagers send me letters all the time and it's kind of irritating imo
I think they're a bit more robotic with letters now. It was fun in the beginning but then like you, I realized the letters don't help with building friendship. They don't even send a goodbye letter when they move away! It makes me sad.
So instead, I wrote to friends to complete the Nook miles achievement which was a lot more fun.
I sent two hundred blank letters to the first villager on my list all in one day once, just to get the stamp and the title, then never again. Probably I wouldn't have bothered with such a tedious grind, but I really wanted to be able to put "Writer" on my passport. ^o^;>
I used to send so many letters in new leaf. Now I send them letters the first few days they are on my island until I can hand deliver gifts to them. I also send them a letter the day before their birthday if I remember.
never. not since somewhere around launch. i used to do it semi-frequently in NL, but letter-writing has lost its charm for me with NH. the card stand just isn't a good substitute for the pelicans and the post office. it's also just a pain in the backside to write letters on a switch lite since your only options are the joystick or your finger -- for some reason, these consoles don't come with a stylus like the DS family did. it's also not as fun (for me) having all the stationary sat there waiting instead of being able to collect it yourself, and there's much less variety in the designs compared to older games. there's also no incentive anymore. as far as i know, letter writing does nothing for friendship, villagers don't show you, visitors or each other your letters, and they can also no longer be bothered to send me a birthday invite or goodbye letter anymore, so i don't feel inclined to write to them at all.
every now and then I'd send out mass letters to all of my villagers (just a basic hello this is a letter kind of thing) to make a bit of progress towards the nook miles achievement, but i find it quite tedious to get it all typed out so it's quite rare i take the time to do so. i did it a lot more in NL because it felt a bit more personal!
Rarely. I think I've sent two in the time I've had this island and it's been almost 9 months. I just hate the way it works in NH. I understand it's been adapted because we don't have the post office anymore, but I miss the way it used to work in WW/NL.
Never. I don't see the point. It's really tedious to do it in this game. I would send letters to my villagers in NL all of the time though. But it was fun, and I felt like there was a real point. There doesn't seem to be much of a point in this game sadly.
I used letters quite a lot back when I was trying to change one of my villager houses (since you can only hand-gift one item per day but letters let you send multiple items to them at once). But just sending empty mail to the island residents? That always felt rather pointless to me.
I do love just sending real people random letters though. I personally enjoy unexpected letters popping up in the mailbox, and have been encouraging that by doing it to my friends, haha!
