i think it's annoying when people perceive feminism as a movement of women trying to destroy the patriarchy and that it focuses only on female issues however that certainly isn't the case. people who think otherwise ('meninists') are just completely ignorant and are claiming things without looking it up first.
even people who consider themselves feminists make such mistakes, or take their possibly incorrect feminist beliefs to a whole new level in which it is abusive and harassing others, consequently making themselves more of an issue than the ones they wish to tackle and badly representing the feminist movement.
hypermasculinity sucks - it is the start to ways of homophobia and transphobia - and i see examples of it in everyday life; for example, a boy in some of my classes is a really talented artist and loves manga and anime. people have told him it's 'gay' and a bit girly. this is art, for goodness sake. since when was art a feminine thing? it teaches guys to define their aggressive values above the nurturing, respective values to fit the stereotype that men are dictating figures who always get their way. it also teaches them not to be considerate of others and care about their own opinions or righteousness. worst of all, it isn't seen as wrong. they have been encouraged and influenced by their family, friends, and society to act in such a way and that it is right.
