I believe you are safe to continue visiting islands and talking to villagers. Until you actually plot the house spaces down on your island, the villagers aren't set. If you do this without inviting any islanders, you will indeed get 3 randoms

When you move buildings, you place a plot kit, and the building won't move until the next day.
Note you can only move 1 building per day.

My RS just upgraded today and I plotted my campsite. I also have a bridge under construction. Once that's done, I'll be moving my house. I'm also low-key working on hybrids. I've gotten an orange pansy and an orange hyacinth.

I'm so happy that this is a thread! I usually TT in animal crossing but I made the decision not to TT during New Horizons for now.. So I'm glad this thread is allowing us all to share our progress with each other 
My Resident Services is under construction today as well. I'm looking forward to getting my campsite installed and getting more visitors in! Right now I am searching for the remaining bugs and fish that I have get to come across and saving up bells and Nook Miles! It's so fun to see a lot of people all progressing at/close to the same rate as each other.

Thanks, this was a piece of comforting news! I have not plotted any land yet. They are still in my bag which I have to carry all the time. Taking 3 spaces in my precious slot. I am not picky, but so far I have only encountered 1 mouse, a pig, and 2 cows. I hope I could find someone soon. Why did it sound like a prayer?

I haven't unlocked resident services yet (it'll be under construction tomorrow) so I'm just working on paying off my second loan. I need a bigger house, I've got way too much stuff crammed in it right now! I think I'm also going to visit some mystery islands and look for new flowers. I only have mums and tulips right now and I'd really like more variety.

The campsite got built today, and there are no campers inside of it. I was told by nook to add flowers, de-weed my whole town, and add some new furniture out in town. And still got nothing. Its getting on my nerves now.

I placed the campsite today, so I'm working on everything related to that KK concert I guess. I also placed another log bridge, just gotta collect the donations. I'm doing the cheapest bridge because right now I want it for utility reasons. I will make a prettier bridge later when I can actually terraform and put things where I want them.
Basically, I'm focused on trying to unlock things over time to get inspired for my layout and so I can have access to do more. There is very little I can do for bug/fish catching at the moment (waiting for rain for coelacanth, hybrids for peacock butterfly, and to get a rotten turnip for ant) so I'll mostly be grinding Nook Miles, collecting items/DIY recipes/etc, trying to breed hybrids, and grinding out bells to continue paying for things.

I got my resident services unlocked and got super inspired by the new items you can get from the automat. But I decided I won’t do anything on my island yet, I’ll wait a bit. So mainly I did some weeding and shot down balloons and watched villagers do cute activities
It won't happen instantly. You'll have a camper tomorrow if not the day after.
do we know if there's a certain number of things that are needed to make things progress? Are we talking 20 flowers? 50? 200? also the decorations. A certain number? I'd be curious
My campsite just got built today and now I'm just grinding out nook miles for when I get a villager tomorrow or the next day because you already know I'm gonna be island hopping to try to make a wolf island similar to my wolf village in new leaf haha.

just finished the 3 houses i had to decorate. gladys, rodeo and tangy are moving in, all of which were villagers i found on the mystery island a couple days earlier. nothing else is happening today, maybe something will come up tonight. mabel was also in town, i just need to see her one more time to unlock the able sisters.

is there any advice you can give in regards to how you are placing your flowers to get all of these? In the week I've played, I've only managed to get 2.
