pet peeves / lil stuff you cant stand

It bothers me how so many places (particularly restaurants/cafes) have removed any semblance of comfort in favor of just getting people in and out as quickly as possible. I noticed it last week when I went in somewhere to sit with my sister while she ate and the seats were rock hard and curved in a way to make them intentionally uncomfortable, and then I realized that's kinda the norm now. Not only is it really inaccessible but I feel like it adds to the loss of third places and it bums me out.

Bring back coziness!!

Continuing with the restaurant theme I do not want to scan a QR code to see your menu, give me a damn piece of paper I can hold or I'm gonna just leave.

Idk why this has become so common, and idk how people haven't realized it's exclusive in so many ways. like yeah let's alienate people who can't afford a smartphone and the majority of seniors from eating at our restaurant, great job guys good idea.

Not to mention, people who don't have a lot of data. I only have 5gb worth and I sure as hell am not using some of it to load the website the QR code leads to. If the company is too cheap to print menus, I can only imagine where else they cheap out on.

I feel bad when I make a post and suddenly a moderator comes in and issues a warning about the topic derailing.

Even if it's not directly towards me, I'm the last one who posted and it does feel like I'm being scorned.

I just deleted a post over this (not on this forum though).

The dunking booth on this season of Drag Race is getting old. I wish it had been a one-time thing, as the novelty has faded. Also, a lot of former contestants say it’s freezing on set, so imagine how cold Michelle is there!

"I think (insert show) is overrated. I didn't watch past the 3rd episode".

I'm not interested in hearing any further opinion if you only watched the first few episodes.

Most first episodes, let alone seasons, are used as character setup.

"I wasn't feeling the show and stopped". That's fine. Calling something overrated is used for too often in these instances.

That's an interesting point you brought up. I remember when I was a kid, I was told to give any book I was reading the 3 chapter rule and if I still didn't like it after that, I could drop it because I had given it a fair chance. But technically speaking, like you said, most tv shows or books needs a couple of episodes/chapters to world build and introduce the characters properly.

Madoka Magica is a completely different show after the first few episodes and the first half of season 1 of Durarara is boring as hell compared to the rest of the show. Imagine watching episode 1 of Lucky Star and then dropping it, claiming the show was overrated?

I am sorry, but I will not be tipping at a restaurant unless I order while sitting down (and while at a table, since drive-thrus do not count).

I went to get coffee with my dad yesterday. We pull up to the pay window and the barista asks "Would you like to add a tip?"

My dad: "Sure. Three dollars."
The barista: "Ok, two dollars! Thank you so much!"
And funny enough they gave my dad some weird sour energy drink instead of what he asked for.

Yeah, it's way too common for a person to use the word 'overrated' which is an actual form of criticism. It's fine to say something wasn't gelling with you.

To me, 'overrated' means you've studied a piece of media enough to know what it's objectively missing or doing wrong. You don't feel it deserves the popularity it should.

It's a powerful word that gets thrown around way too much. As a result it's one of my least favorite words.

My favorite band is The Beatles so I hear it over and over and over. It's perfectly fine to not like the music. When they get called 'overrated' it's usually something ridiculous like calling them a boy band.

They might have fit that criteria for the first two years in which they came to America. They musically evolved for the next 7-8 years. The middle to late music sounds nothing like the early music. That "criticism" drives me crazy.

That's how it goes most of the time when people use the word overrated to describe something.

I'm lowkey kinda scared about giving my opinions on us presidents and politicians in general on the internet because I'm afraid of getting attacked by fans and haters, especially if I'm on sites like twitter, tumblr, and reddit (even tho I deleted my twitter and reddit accounts a long time ago).

Hell, I don't even feel safe giving my opinions on politicians on this forum because I feel like I might piss some people off. If I were to say anything remotely negative about *insert well-liked politician here* and vice versa, people are going to send me a ton of hate comments and try to "cancel" me.

There are full blown transphobes, racists, and known scammers (not as serious as the first two things I realize, but nonetheless) here still making posts daily, it's impossible to be "cancelled" here similarly to how being "cancelled" irl has little to no consequences.

While @/seliph is correct that you won’t get “cancelled” in the traditional sense for sharing controversial opinions on this site, you probably shouldn’t do it anyway. From what I’ve seen, doing that, especially if it’s political about something political, is most likely going to lead to at least some of community disliking or at least ignoring you.

You can say "if you talk about (topic) on (platform) some of the community will dislike you" about anything and it would be true. If I post that I don't like Katy Perry on Twitter people are gonna dislike me. If I say I don't like the Boston Bruins in real life people are gonna dislike me. This is just how life works, you aren't gonna please everyone.

As far as this site goes, people are going to dislike you if you think their favourite villager is ugly so imo if you wanna share your political beliefs you may as well.

genuinely thank you for bringing this up, I thought it was just me 😭 I have no idea why they have QR code menus, are they trying to be that cheap that they dont want to just... print and laminate several menus? Like no way that's an expensive investment. I absolutely hate viewing pdf files on my phone, having to zoom in out of a multiple-page pdf file of a menu takes SO LONG and it strains my eyes. It's even worse for older people and those with worse eye problems than me. I need QR code menus to stop being a thing ASAP because it's just such a pain.

Driving at night gets so annoying when people aren't conscious enough that their car's headlights are on bright mode. Like okay thanks for blinding me, my astigmatism already makes me a slow driver at night and you refuse to turn down your headlight brightness which makes is absolutely terrible for me. It's worse when I'm trying to flash them to signal they're on bright mode but they will ignore it. Oh my god please keep your headlights on minimum brightness when you're out on a busy road, I promise it is NOT that dark when there are these many lights around 😭😭😭

Yeah. For the longest time I didn't have a phone that would work with that since money was always tight so just a flip-phone is all I could afford. And they'd be like ok just look it up on your phone. So I just leave lol. A lot of people don't realize how privileged it is.

It really bothered me with New Horizon and the NSO App. So much of the features are locked behind a smart phone. I don't get it. Why not give access to a browser form. I'm not paying 300-400+ to experience more of the game that's already behind so many paywalls.
