Pokémon Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield General Discussion

I love all the tweets talking about how trash Sword and Shield are lol.

Normally I'm not someone who hates on games but I'm sorry generation 8 is looking really bad. If they had the national dex then I could forgive Gamefreak for being bad at 3D game design but come on now they're cutting back on literally every aspect of the Pok?mon franchise!

I'm looking forward to their response. But there it seems likely that they won't care and just release the game as is instead of listening to the fans. That's just how they operate it seems based on previous generations.

I despise that. They're always like ''well we felt like this was a good design decision.'' or ''it was necessary to rebalance the games''. Which is stupid to me, if nobody wants these changes then why would you force them down everybody's throats? As if the fans don't understand them or cannot comprehend their level of thought. Ridiculous! Cool that you can't organize your workflow to include all Pok?mon. But why exactly should we care? It's your job to deliver!

I'm excited to see what will happen when this game comes out I honestly want to see it burn.

Just stick to the first two generations. At least they let you “Catch em’ all” back in Gold and Silver.

Like most people, I am also extremely disappointed about the exclusion of the national dex. Dynamax also looks stupid to me. I was really looking forward to these games but a lot of my excitement has subsided. I'll probably still buy it but I'll have to temper my expectations for it.

Same. Dynamax really looks stupid to me as well and probably won't care about it because I am not into competitive battling. My enjoyment of the game was the story then completing the full dex and taking on the battle facilities. They slowly cut the battle facilities over the last few generations and now they removed the national dex. Little by little my enjoyment of the games is removed. It is a shame because I skipped the last 2 titles hoping for the next proper installment. Looks I'll have to wait longer.

It's actually pretty sad that Gen 8 starts so disappointing. At this point, I'm just curious how the
evolutions of the Starter will looks like. Not gonna plan to buy the games, my hype is gone for
now.

I'm probably not going to get these games anymore. Not at launch and definitely not for full price.

Not including national dex is ridiculous. I kinda knew this would happen one day but I was never okay with it. Really the pokemon models dont look that much better from let's go/sunmoon. The problem is they keep pushing out a main series pokemon every year and its affecting the quality of their games.

I really hope that they'll take a couple years off and make a new game that is revolutionary. The wild area is the only thing concept from sword and shield that I like so I hope the next game makes a whole world like that. Botw Pokemon is what I want basically. Laughable I know but it would be so awesome.

Tired of gimmicks that don't carry over to the next generation. Secret bases, contests, Sinnoh underground, megas, z moves. Dynamax probably wont be in gen 9 or whatever the hell is next after sword and shield so why even get excited about it?

They also need to abandon the concept of "generations", which is partially why no national dex is a problem now. The other issue being laziness and rushed release dates.
Not every new region needs a whole.new cast of Pokemon. There's going to be like a 1000 pokemon after this game. That's plenty to make a new game without introducing 80+ more every single generation. They experimented with introducing new pokemon in gen 7 with ultra sunmoon so just introducing a few each new game would probably be for the best for the series.

Of course none of this is going to happen and they'll just keep pushing out the same old crap and keep making millions. So I think I'm done with pokemon.

Not having a National Dex is super dumb and they should have delayed the game to create time to fix everything before launch. Too much Pokemon Go fandom pleasing with the Dynamax **** and the raid battles.. Only the open field with walking Pokemon in it looks cool. I bought every Pokemon game except for Let's go and I'm seriously considering not buying Sword and Shield.

I hate to say, but this is Pok?mon in the future. There’s no way they can keep the National Dex when they have so many Pok?mon species these days. You may also have to get used to not having every Pok?mon species available in one game. There’s so many species now.

The reason why they don’t have the National Dex in Sword and Shield and Sun and Moon is also the same reason why you can’t visit all Pok?mon regions in one game anymore. It’s too much collecting, it gets tedious, and it’s more complicated to get a 100% completion (especially to newer players). Do you want Pok?mon to pull a Donkey Kong 64? I know it sucks to not have extras anymore, but newer fans would find it overwhelming.

I also don’t recommend boycotting the game because if everybody does this, there won’t be anymore Pok?mon games, and the series will be dead. You’ll never see a new Pok?mon game. Plus, I don’t take boycotts too kindly.

Fun fact: Even with the giant riot fans are doing and spamming #BringBackNationalDex like everywhere,
Sword and Shield are the second most pre-ordered games at GameStop. Trust me, there will always be
enough fans which throw their money into Game Freak's faces, there will never be the day where no
Pokemon games will coming out just because a bunch of fans say 'I'm gonna boycotting the games
now'. This may becoming the case if like 70% of the Pokemon fan base world wide would not buy
the games anymore, but let's face it, how likely is this to gonna happen? (Maybe if the games are
really becoming that bad that nobody wants to play them anymore, then again, you will always
find people playing even the worst games).

After all, if a fan doesn't wanna buy a game, either because said game is missing something, doesn't
look promising or there is something which bothers the fan too much, then the fan has all the rights
to not buy the game at all. Pretty sure nobody would care about Animal Crossing New Horizons if
it would looks like amiibo Festival 2.0, just saying.

Also, there are solutions Game Freak could use so that ALL Pokemon are in the game, like getting
more employees to work on the games (this is in fact a problem, lots of fans said that GF doesn't
have enough employees, or that the 'best' employees working right now on a game called "Town"
and not at Pokemon), using 32GB cartridges instead of 16GB, taking more time for the games and
not rush them etc.

Besides, everyone has their own definition of 'compilation'. For some players, a game is 100%
complete if they are done with the main story, got all their favorite Pokemon and maybe did
this and that. So you can't really say it gets tedious and new players pretty sure also never
have that only one goal to complete the game 100% like by doing absolutely everything in
the game. They also probably gonna do their own thing and just enjoy the games in their
own way.

Oh, and The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64 called: They want their trees back.

“Overwhelming for newer fans”. Finding new Pok?mon you haven’t seen before has always been exciting for Pok?mon fans, was it not? (Well, it was for me at least.) Besides, collecting all 800+ Pok?mon is no longer a requirement for rewards like shiny charm and such. If it’s too overwhelming then simply don’t do it.

You say this is the future of Pok?mon well if it is they’re done for anyways imo. People choose not to buy it because they don’t like it either. This isn’t evolution, it’s devolution. It it’s not just the lack of national dex I’m unhappy about. This isn’t the future one of the greatest game series deserves.

You know what though? Fans have been begging for gen 8 like they couldn’t even wait, now they don’t want to buy it and say they were lazy? This is why I’d rather wait for games to come out instead of them rushing!

Just sad to see how my favorite franchise is getting destroyed slowly.

I doubt it will be a disappointment for me at least. In fact, I'm pretty excited for it despite how /bad/ the graphics look. ^.^

The thing about boycotts is that you need to give them a clear action they must do for you to start buying their product again. I agree that a boycott is pointless if you are never going to buy the product again (and in some scenarios never even bought the product to begin with).

Though to be honest I'm not too optimistic this will really change in the future. Which is fine. It simply means I'll have a chance to play other games I otherwise wouldn't have had the money/time to play. I'm definitely not buying this game, nor any subsequent title if this is where the series is going. Not because I'm even trying to change anything, but because I know I wouldn't enjoy it.

The only dealbreaker to me about whether I should get this game or not is if they drop the Ice type altogether. If they get rid of the Ice Type, I’m not going to play newer Pok?mon games. But I doubt they’ll do that because the Ice type has been a mainstay. What I hope though is if they can fix their poor defense in type effectiveness.

EDIT: Here’s a question about the disappointment. Would you rather be warned ahead of time, or would you rather not know it until you buy the game? I personally choose the former because if they didn’t tell us about the National Dex or having all Pok?mon until its release, that would be equivalent to lying to the public. Telling a lie is bad, but even remaining silent instead of telling the truth makes you dishonest as well, and it’s no better than lying.

Ya people are starting spam on their twitter account now. Simply don’t buy it and move on lmao

The number of people 'not buying' will snowball and the game will eventually take a huge hit.

They have to listen to what fans want, if they want people to keep buying the games.

I certainly won't be wasting money on the new games. They are so bad it's almost laughable.

Um I'm sorry but you gotta see it as a product. And compared to other products in the same industry or even within the same franchise, the quality is just horrible. Pok?mon Sword and Shield have been compromised in every aspect which to me is absolutely unacceptable and it is also definitely a fair reason to justify not buying the games.

Gameplay: Mega evolution and Z moves have been removed in favor of Dynamax. Sure Dynamax is an addition but Z moves also applied to every Pok?mon without needing to remove mega evolution.

Visuals: The game's visual quality is just terrible. Low quality textures, bad animations, oversights in world geometry etc etc. This is the first time we get an actual new Pok?mon game on modern hardware and it's supposed to be a big deal lol... Well I suppose this is a big deal because the highest grossing media franchise did a big oopsie!

Content: This one is the most infuriating. I personally love collecting all the Pok?mon, having no national Pok?dex is what pushed me over the edge, I'm not buying this game unless there is some kind of solution for that. I could forgive literally all of the above if there was just a national dex. I also have over 100 shiny Pok?mon and to think I may not be able to transfer them all over is just extremely sad and disappointing.

Also reminder that they definitely have the money to hire more developers/designers to cover the workload necessary to implement. There is no excuse, they either just wanted to cut costs or thought that pushing the game out like this would be tolerated by the people. The latter is sadly partially the reality because the young and new players probably don't realize what's wrong with the game at all.

So why would I actually recommend to boycott the game? Well if you care about Pok?mon and want Gamefreak to do better we should let them know that this is simply unacceptable. Sure there's the argument that the game is almost done and we won't see it changed or delayed. But they could always use the feedback for the future installments. If we keep our mouths shut and pretend everything is fine then they'll just not care and keep going. I mean what's the point in improving your games when they sell just as well while not having put in as much effort?

I don't care if you ''don't take boycotts too kindly'', whatever that's supposed to mean. That statement has no weight sorry.

But it seems many people feel the same way so I'm curious to see what happens next time we hear from Gamefreak.

The complaints beside, when should we expect the next informations? While I'm not planning to
buy these games at the moment, I'm still curious about the evolutions of the starters and other
new Pokemon.
