Pokémon Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield General Discussion

I enjoyed Gen 7, but the lack of National Dex was disappointed. This is even worse.

I'm seriously thinking about not bothering with Sword/Shield now. If I do buy it, most likely it won't be a day 1 purchase now. I don't have a Switch yet and was originally going to buy a Switch with whatever came out first, Pokemon or Animal Crossing. Right now, I'm thinking I'll just wait until March to buy a Switch with New Horizons. Sword/Shield MIGHT get purchased in March too, or it might not, depending on how it seems.

Wooloo is my favorite new Pokemon though. I love it.

i was so hyped for this game however this news is extremly disappointing. It's been confirmed that there will be no plans at all to bring back Pokemon not in the Galar dex via patches or updates. It's also confirmed that Mega evolutions and Z-Moves won't return either. they'll probably just make a sinnoh remake for the other pokemon not in or a sword and shield 2

No mega evolution? That's sad.
I saw this problem coming with Pokemon. They keep expanding their dex and regions but they can't support it in a game any longer. You can't just cut out 50% or more of all existing Pokemon. The fun is in collecting them all and having the freedom to train whoever you like the most or see the most potential in. I'm not buying this game if they are not fixing this.

What's the point of Pokemon Home then..

After these informations, my hype for Sword/Shield is pretty much gone right now. What's the point
when you have one day like 1000 Pokemon but you will never have a game where you can actually
"catch 'em all"? Their slogan is at this point a lie. I don't understand how Game Freak thought that
this is a good idea. They should maybe turn their brains on and re-thinking the whole problem here.
This ruins the fun a lot.

Well, it's actually useless now.

like everyone else, my hype kind of died. i most likely will only be purchasing fe3h instead of both. i'll be waiting a couple weeks after s&s release to gauge if it is worth it or not, or wait until sinnoh remake announcement.

When I play a new Pokemon game, I play it for the new Pokemon and such. So the removal doesnt necessarily affect me but it does anger me because they're capable of including all the Pokemon especially when literally all Pokemon from Gen 1 - 7 have walking and running animations in the files of USUM. They just need textures to be updated.

My hype for the games have just spiraled down and crash landed like James Charles career and honestly at this point I'm not that interested #BringBackNationalDex.

Was excited but the Galar dex news brought it a bit down. I'm still looking forward to seeing the new designs and the Wild Areas seem nice but that's all it has going for me atm.

I also noticed how poor the graphics look. The wild area concept seems neat but it looks so.... meh. This is the same console with other open-world games like Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade 2, and soon the Witcher.... and Pokemon in comparison...? Unfinished.

All that being said, Game Freak should stop following the yearly Pokemon game model. It doesn't give them enough time to truly flesh out their games and it's even more noticeable with this transition into the new console generation.

Minor nitpick, but they didn’t necessarily follow the yearly model this time as Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee aren’t mainline games. There’s been two years since Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have been out (much like there was two years between OR/AS and Sun/Moon because PSMD doesn’t count). While I agree with everyone else that the National Dex removal sucks and the game feels rushed, I’m still going to buy the game and play it anyway. I’m interested to see what other new stuff the game has to offer and like SensaiGallade said, I play the new games at this point for the new Pokemon and not necessarily to be able to have any Pokemon.

Like a lot of other people have said, this Galar dex news is really disappointing and completely unprecedented in a mainline Pok?mon game. I was very excited about this game, but I'm a lot less now with this news. If the Serebii list is correct, most of my favorite Pok?mon aren't even in this game. Chandelure is nowhere to be seen. Honestly debating whether to even buy at this point or to just watch a Youtube Let's Play instead.

Looks like everyone’s dropping their swords/shields lol. For once there may be a possibility I may not get this game. It’s not just because I’m disappointed in a lot of stuff like the legendaries and the national dex not being available, but because I just can’t support such stupid decisions like these. >_>

gamefreak is ****ing stupid lol
the reason why they dont wanna do +800 pokemon is because gamefreak does so much ****ing effort (that it ends up being stupid) when they work with models.

in SM , they did 108 models of Lillie from zero for every time she would appear in the game , instead of just making one model and making copies of that model to then use it as reference when its needed , not only Lillie has this issue , but every NPC and even things from landscapes (such as grass) have it , they make a new model all over again for every time its needed for a scene.

in this game what they wanna do is that not only human NPCs and landscapes are gonna have that issue , but Pokemon are also gonna be having mutiple models for every time they are needed , here is go it goes:

example :
In X route , a Machoke appears , GF makes a whole new model of a machoke for that route.
In X room , another Machoke appears , GF makes a whole new model of a machoke for that room
and so on , they don't wanna do +800 pokemon because the way they work with models is stupid.

sword and shield is cancelled :)

Looks like the missing National Dex is not the only problem these games have. Found this on

Would also recommend you reading the replies on this tweet, it's actually interesting hearing the
fans opinion to this. Maybe they should take they time when it comes to develop the games, but
guess they believe the faster you bring out the games the better it is, which is not the case here.

Interesting. Thanks for the link. I didn't actually bother to watch the SwSh videos from E3, just the ones before that, because I was too focused and hyping on Animal Crossing. I don't recall some of that wonky stuff in the older videos, but I wasn't looking for it either. Yeah, those are things you wouldn't expect to see in a modern game.

It's still just the lack of National Dex mons that makes this a no go for me. Weird graphics can be tolerable if the game is fun, but the lack of National Dex + National Dex mons screams lazyness and going a route that I'm not interested in.

Makes me wonder how many people at the end are about to boycott the games because of this mess.

Is it going to do worse than Pok?mon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee?

I still seriously doubt that it will do worse than those games. Most Pokemon fans are more interested in the mainline games than they are spinoffs for starters, plus not a ton of people that are Pokemon fans are really interested in the Go games of Pokemon (Pokemon Go and Let’s Go P/E). Most likely it won’t sell as well as older games in the franchise, but that’s it. A large amount of people are still going to buy and play the games.

I can't believe how shockingly bad these games are coming off as.

It has put me off Pokemon, probably for life.
