Omg they got rid of the $20 off price deal!? I really didn't know...

I'll probably pre-order it later, to see if there's any cool bundles like the 'Smash Special Edition' with a metal cover and pro controller.

I have to get a Switch first.
It doesn't surprise me at all that a store as large as Best Buy is trying to get the orders first. I may place a pre-order on the game (although I feel more tempted to just get the game digitally like I did with New Leaf), but at the end of the day, I have to make sure I have enough money to buy a Switch if my dad isn't getting me one for Christmas. Considering it's looking likely that I'll be going to Japan next year, this is important.

im waiting til we know more about and hopefully they will have some kind of preorder bonus/ bundle or something

Yeah I hate to be a massive weeb (do I really...) but I was planning on taking a trip to Japan next year anyways, I might just make my trip coincide with it's release to pick up the game, not to mention get any exclusive merch, there's usually a lot, and even the plushes sold in the eu/na region are actually just inferior quality versions of the sanei plushes (under the little buddy company) ...

I'm so excited! To be fair, about 90% of my excitement of the new game is all this material I can use for studying lol. If any of you are studying a language, you should see if the game comes out in your target language! It's such a good way to pick up everyday vocab and speech patterns! The eu region games have most eu languages so there's a lot of languages you can use it to study with!

the pre order could mean its closer than most people think. when did pre orders happen when new leaf was coming out? or any switch game in the past like odyssey

Don't have a Switch yet so it seems very unlikely that I would be pre-ordering.

The only thing about the price is that it may be $59.99 in America but that doesn't translate to the ?59.99 that has been placed on the game outside of America, that makes it more expensive outside of America and I don't think that's what Nintendo is going for. That's why we think the non-American prices are placeholders. ($60 would translate to about ?45 and ?60 is about $78. I don't doubt that the $59.99 price is correct but the English price doesn't seem to make sense at this present moment.

Oh well yeah, if you wanna get technical about it. I'm sure the correct converted prices will appear soon enough.

Just wanna give you a heads up waaaay in advance: If this game has a simultaneous worldwide release (very likely, given the way Nintendo handles things now), it won't matter which region you buy the game from, as long as you play it on a Switch that uses America (or whichever your native language is) as its home region, the game will play in that language. Most games on Switch have only one SKU and are universal.

For example: Okami didn't get a physical release in the US, but Japan received one. Because there was only one SKU, the English (among other language) version is included in ALL versions of the game. I imported the Japanese physical edition, and upon starting the game, the game switches to the English version automatically.

But that is sound advice regarding languages, but be weary if you decide to change your Switch to a different region if you have any money in your eShop wallet as it will be lost.

In the Netherlands there are no pre-orders yet. I'll probably wait with pre-ordering until we have a release date. It's a day 1 buy for me anyway. But I'll probably pre-order.

They aren't available in my region yet but those pre-orders are simply placeholders and mean nothing. It's just a way for sellers to cash in on the hype. You're not very likely to cancel a pre-order y'know, while it's easy to lose interest while pre-orders aren't up yet and some people will end up not buying the game at all.

It's business

I'm going with Digital Download. I'll be playing AC every day along with whatever other games, I don't want to be swapping out the tiny game card all the time. Same reason I've got Mario Kart 8D and Splatoon Digital.

It's also a way for devs to gauge interest. Pre-order culture gets too much hate, but it is a very valuable tool for some devs. Maybe not so much Nintendo as it is others.

I?ll probably preorder when they release more information about it. I don?t have a switch yet and I?m pretty much only getting a switch for animal crossing and Pokemon, so I?d like to see more of the game before commit to spending so much money on something that potentially could be a flop.

I'll be pre-ordering mine from local EbGames. I'm on the list for the game and will get a call when it gets listed as a pre-order.
The local EbGame is friendly and knows my name. All my pre-orders are ready when I arrive. Also like that they give a discount on the guide book when you buy the game.

I know the game was announced but I didn't expect the preorder announcement in all honesty but in all honesty, I'm not going to preorder since I don't have the Switch...yet...but I definitely plan to get the game if and when I do get it. Also if I had the Switch then I would still want more information about the game before I could preorder it and wait it out until I know more about the game to get it.

Gamestop has... what I assume is a placeholder date (it says 12/31/19)?... I'm going to guess it will be released toward the end of the year, but they're really trying not to push it into 2020. I don't personally think it will get pushed back that far.

How soon do games usually come out after preorders start? Does anybody know?

Retailers post listings with 12/31 dates all the time for games without official release dates. This is by no means been an indication of when a game will launch. It's just there so that Gamestop can have the game in their system so that people can start pre-ordering it, nothing more.

And for your question: I have had Kingdom Hearts 3 pre-ordered for years. Retailers could start posting pre-orders for the new Elder Scrolls game now if they wanted, and that won't be out until longer after the next generation of consoles launch.

That's exactly what I said though. I wouldn't expect any game to be released on the very last day of the year, it's clearly a placeholder.

Also, thanks for answering the question. But to clarify since people seem to misunderstand and want to jump straight to the most negative and unlikely scenario. What I meant was... what is the most common period of time it takes to release a game after preorders start? If there is one. I ask because I never preorder games, so I don't really pay attention.
